Animal Crossing: New Leaf Review (Nintendo 3DS) (9.7)  by
Animal Crossing... I still remember getting up early before heading to my high school classes just to see what Tom Nook was selling that day. This game series has always held such a dear place in my heart. I think it has to do with the fact that heading to the land of Plaisant, Tranquil, or other towns of mine always being a great escape for me. Making Bells, filling my catalog, and fishing in the ocean were always points of peace for me. While I've been very public about my discontent with AC: City Folk, I have a new-found hope once more for New Leaf. From all the information that has been dished out due to the game's release already in Japan, and Nintendo pushing more information through Nintendo Directs, I am confident this game will be a fresh take on a classic and comforting idea.

The game released in North America on June 9th, 2013 and released in other territories shortly after.

Please use this thread for all discussion on the game. If you would like to make trades or visit towns, please use the specific Animal Crossing New Leaf Trading Thread for further assistance. It makes more sense to keep this focused on the gameplay and game discussion while leaving bartering out of it. There are no Friend Codes this time around for Animal Crossing, which is a blessing! Many of us have already befriended ourselves via the 3DS Friend Codes Thread thread. That thread will be where we continue to befriend each other and trade 3DS IDs for the sake of visiting each other's towns.

Many many years ago I discovered a wonderful Animal Crossing website which has a great catalog feature set up. Now, the new game will mean it'll take time for the site to get a full correct catalog up and running but I expect it to work beautifully once more to allow anyone to track their catalog there. You can find this website at the Animal Crossing Community page. They also have forums there which are very active right now in anticipation of this game. Granted, the general age of the members of that site fall a bit lower than here, but I've found over all the years I've been there that the discussion is still mostly pleasant and easy.

Lastly, I want you all to enjoy the music from this new game or any of the games, whenever you want. The following site will allow you to hear the "Xam" or "Xpm" music that would naturally occur in your life right now as if you were in the game. You can select from any of the Animal Crossing games and the music will continually loop until the hour changes. It's pretty cool. You can find that page here. It's by default at the City Folk music.

So again, everyone enjoy this game! Enjoy this discussion! If you're interested in being negative about the title, just find your way to a different thread for that because this thread is about the experience and meant to bring the community together during the launch of one of the most community driven games Nintendo offers.

Say hello to Kapp'n, cause we're about to make it into town on June 9th.

(One more quick note; Keep an eye out for the game's review, which I will write sometime in the end of June probably.)

@DrFinkelstein

Really? Neat.

I bet Stephen has been stealing my gems. I saw him poking at rocks!

i was on a six hour road trip today to a state park in ohio, so i spent the trip time doing menial animal crossing tasks. I upgraded a ton of furniture. I turned my Piggy Bank into an emerald piggy bank, i modified both my green bed and my green dresser with emeralds and now my bedroom is green and shiny!

Finally back on and i got the dream suite, um... is it really even worth it tho? I mean i did one dream and didn't get it really.
I picked up the strategy guide so i can attempt to make clay characters again. And in the mix got a few badges/pins of animal crossing from my friend at gamestop : D (used to work there)

Just 2 things i don't know if anyone wants to know or what not...
My niece said you can hit balloons with a net -not sure if anyone knew this or not.
And my nephew who jumped on the game found a way to make real good money at the island. He chopped all trees and flower beds only leaving palm trees, so only expensive bugs are found. No butterflies or other beetles. Now and then you get the roaches or hermit crabs but i just chase em away.

I think being in the process of setting up a fruit orchard has turned me off from this game a little bit. In hindsight, I think I prefer just running around and seeing fruit trees scattered about, as opposed to have them in rows organized by variety.

EDIT: Nah, I take it back. Game's still fun!

@wickedsymphony

Try visiting the spooky dream town of Aika to see what kind of creative stuff people can do with this game! Just give the tapir the code 2600-0218-7298.

Also, you can update your town once a day with the tapir to get a free 5,000 bells daily. Not too shabby!

Oh yes.

So i woke up and bought 1,200,000 bells worth of turnips today. I will be watching the stalk market VERY closely this week....

Downside of starting the game at 10:30 at night: None of the essential shops are open. Even the retread store closed at 11. I also got stung by bees.... twice. Sigh.

Smugtown rules. Frowns forever!

@TheOldManFromZelda

Did you put a night owl ordinance?
06/23/13, 17:58
My Flower Shop just opened today. I still can't a watering can though. When can I grab one of those? My flowers need water!

@DrFinkelstein

I have no idea what you're talking about, so no. I literally turned the game on for the first time ever last night.

In an odd coincidence, my town fruit is peaches. The last Animal Crossing game I played was on the GameCube. The fruit then? Peaches. Someone's watching......

@GameDadGrant
It took me another day or two for it to show. I'll be on later the afternoon with my gate open. I can give you an extra if you swing by Isengard.

I want to give some fruit to a friend but we are having trouble getting our schedules to meet. Can I somehow store fruit and give it to him later? If so, how long till it rots?
06/23/13, 20:43
@GameDadGrant isabelle didn't give you a can? She gave them out if u talked to her, but now i guess you have to wait like Vids did.

@Scrawnton much u buy the turnips for? Past 2 weeks Joan's been asking 104 both times. So i passed.

@TheOldManFromZelda

In a couple of days you can set an ordinance depending on a small list. I turned on the Night Owl ordinance which let's stores stay open later by a few hours. Citizens also stay more active at those hours.
06/23/13, 20:57
How do you get Cyrus accept ores? I have a common bed I want to "oreify" but he doesn't even mention it.
06/23/13, 23:50
@wickedsymphony

I had 93 last week and 92 this week. I think 90 is the lowest you can buy for.
06/24/13, 02:28
90 today!

Honestly though, it doesn't really matter what the initial price is that much. It's always going to be between 90 and 120 bells, so as long as you're willing to do some work, I'd suggest always biting on a ton of turnips, especially with online visiting!

Say, if anyone here has a great turnip price this week, we should post in this (or the other) thread!
