Animal Crossing: New Leaf Review (Nintendo 3DS) (9.7)  by

Animal Crossing... I still remember getting up early before heading to my high school classes just to see what Tom Nook was selling that day. This game series has always held such a dear place in my heart. I think it has to do with the fact that heading to the land of Plaisant, Tranquil, or other towns of mine always being a great escape for me. Making Bells, filling my catalog, and fishing in the ocean were always points of peace for me. While I've been very public about my discontent with AC: City Folk, I have a new-found hope once more for New Leaf. From all the information that has been dished out due to the game's release already in Japan, and Nintendo pushing more information through Nintendo Directs, I am confident this game will be a fresh take on a classic and comforting idea.

The game released in North America on June 9th, 2013 and released in other territories shortly after.

Please use this thread for all discussion on the game. If you would like to make trades or visit towns, please use the specific Animal Crossing New Leaf Trading Thread for further assistance. It makes more sense to keep this focused on the gameplay and game discussion while leaving bartering out of it. There are no Friend Codes this time around for Animal Crossing, which is a blessing! Many of us have already befriended ourselves via the 3DS Friend Codes Thread thread. That thread will be where we continue to befriend each other and trade 3DS IDs for the sake of visiting each other's towns.

Many many years ago I discovered a wonderful Animal Crossing website which has a great catalog feature set up. Now, the new game will mean it'll take time for the site to get a full correct catalog up and running but I expect it to work beautifully once more to allow anyone to track their catalog there. You can find this website at the Animal Crossing Community page. They also have forums there which are very active right now in anticipation of this game. Granted, the general age of the members of that site fall a bit lower than here, but I've found over all the years I've been there that the discussion is still mostly pleasant and easy.

Lastly, I want you all to enjoy the music from this new game or any of the games, whenever you want. The following site will allow you to hear the "Xam" or "Xpm" music that would naturally occur in your life right now as if you were in the game. You can select from any of the Animal Crossing games and the music will continually loop until the hour changes. It's pretty cool. You can find that page here. It's by default at the City Folk music.

So again, everyone enjoy this game! Enjoy this discussion! If you're interested in being negative about the title, just find your way to a different thread for that because this thread is about the experience and meant to bring the community together during the launch of one of the most community driven games Nintendo offers.

Say hello to Kapp'n, cause we're about to make it into town on June 9th.

(One more quick note; Keep an eye out for the game's review, which I will write sometime in the end of June probably.)

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

My stupid game. Why the heck did Diva get a whopping 102 points with her bug when some of you are winning with much lower??

Game is defective, Nintendo is doomed, etc.

Has anyone joined club Tortimer?
I did and after the fiasco there i HOPE it resets after 24 hrs or something. Someone cut down all the trees and destroyed the North America Island. So I'm really hoping if i go on today it's refreshed or something.
And gotta love first day there and getting someone mad.
Caught a butterfly that was by me not realizing someone was chasing it around the entire island. Safe to say my girl got a few hits to the head with a net seconds before the person just walked out of the island ,lol. *Bird wing butterfly*

Oh and one more thing, who on here is net happy? I keep going to a town and getting whacked upside the head, lol.

@DrFinkelstein
when u go to isle u can buy it with medals, it cost me 50 and i get a special island where i can play with random people from north america or all over the world. And get exclusive items it seems for less bells.
It does refresh, so the coconut tree killer bandit will have to strike again.

tho it's hard to add people as friends on there, u can only ban them from seeing them again if for whatever reason you have to. I just recommended ur site to a fellow islander so he just joined here : D

Just got my piggy bank from the post office!

I think I might start doing some more town projects before continuing with expanding my house any more, heh.

I cannot believe how much I play this game. I even bought one for my son because I didn't want him to destroy my island. Yesterday, I said he couldn't play due to his basketball and Tae Kwan Doe commitments but he asked if he could play a bit to pay off his loan sooner. My wife and I LOL'D because he's seven and he shouldn't have to worry about any loans no time soon.

Figured I'd try out the whole AC picture thing with tumblr.

I am back from vacation. I will resume playing animal crossing tomorrow. I am adjusting to the life of not being at a huge music festival. It is actually very rough being in my house when I was in a tent for four days and surrounded closely by 100,000 people.....

I cant wait to see you guys in the game!

Vicki and I went fishing last night in my rainy town. She caught a Coelacanth (about an hour after I caught mine) and I caught a bunch of sharks. It was around a 50,000 bell haul in a couple of hours. Not a bad day at all.

@ludist210next time i'm on i'll shoot message when going to isle again
I have alot of bills on animal crossing, new upgrade is 498,000. And island always does me good.

@wickedsymphony

498k? Yikes! I should be able to start paying down my 198k loan today, but I may put some of that to use on a Public Works project. I think the museum shop is an option for me now...that'd be nice to have.
06/17/13, 16:33
Damn these loans will keep us busy for a while! I still haven't started paying off my 198,000 one and I'm trying to finish paying off a bridge.
06/17/13, 16:34
@VofEscaflowne

Yeah, I'm thinking my town needs another bridge. Or a garbage can. Or a coffee shop...gah!
06/17/13, 16:36
I'm on my town's third bridge so I should be fine after that. I want a lamp post afterwards and a few benches once I can figure out how to build this one area. Got a few ideas, just need a couple of days to see if it works.

Even though this game doesn't have HUGE improvements over the previous games, it's additions like these that really keeps it fresh and has me looking forward to what the next day brings.

Overly Obsessed Katie was following me all morning.
06/17/13, 17:48
@VofEscaflowne

I paid 28k towards a bridge. Last night. This morning my generous townsfolk donated... 328 bells. Thanks everyone.
06/17/13, 18:52
@DrFinkelstein

Well Isabelle did say she had a feeling you'd have to do most of the contributions in order to fund it...
06/17/13, 18:57
I'm still paying down my original mortgage. And I'm not making that many Bells right now either, since all the fish and fossils I find I end up just donating to the Museum. I figure once my Museum is full, I can start really knocking down my debt to Nook.
06/17/13, 19:14
I decided to get some of the big town projects out of the way first.

The Reset Center should be finished tomorrow morning. Can't believe such a small center would cost close to 400k bells
06/17/13, 19:17
@ludist210

Oh I know. Honestly I didn't think anyone bt me would.donate. I was more charmed and making a joke. I'm going to hit the island hard today so I can complete my bridge for tomorrow..
