I want this game but...the guild01 titles are the ones I'm pickin' up this week. I will live vicariously through your impressions until I pick it up for myself.

My impressions are probably going to come slow. I've already got too many games on my plate right now. I'll probably squeeze in two or three more levels in the next few days and then put it on the back burner until I've cleared out my backlog a bit. I just like the franchise enough that I wanted to pick the game up near launch to let Nintendo know I'd like to see more out of it in the future.

I've just finished my third village and so far...

...it's even better than the original!

There are a couple of key additions to the original formula that make it even better:

1) I've only had one level with the train, but it really does throw a great curveball into the gameplay. The game already felt like you had to be 10 places at once. Now, make that 11. It's good, though.

2) Without giving much away, the way the extra ranger changes up the gameplay is really great. Makes me think that this game could thrive as a multiplayer game at some point.

3) At one point I had a duel. I'm playing Red Dead Redemption at the same time and, I gotta say, I liked the way Rolling Western handled this feature even better.

4) So far, I'm still in the usual desert levels. No new enemy types so far. But there are some different terrain features that are interesting. Dillon gets his Tony Hawk on a few times.

5) My man Russ! He actually is useful, now. His Battle Reports at the end of the fighting are valuable for planning each days attack. It does mean that you get sort of a cheat sheet on where to put your weapons - which might prove in the long run to be a bit too much help - but right now I kind of like the way it works. And you could always just ignore the reports if it gets to be too much hand-holding.

6) Looks like there's a story a-brewing... Dillon is turning into something of a badass.

Yeah, right now, if the game keeps this up, I might even recommend new players start with Rolling Western 2.

Probably around the halfway mark at this point. Going to do a full review soon. But, yeah, so far I recommend the sequel even over the original game. Newcomers, start here. So far it seems easier and there's more to the story elements than before. Just better developed all around. If you liked the first one, you'll like the second one.

Only downside is not much in the way of tutorials for newbs. But I'm sure anyone around here could get the hang of it.
