@sirmastersephiroth I liked SML2 as a kid, but last time I tried to play it (maybe 5-6 years ago) it just seemed so wrong somehow. I dunno. As for Other M, the original trailer got my expectations sky-high, as Team Ninja + 3D Metroid was like some beautiful bizarre dream match I never knew I wanted, and everything about the trailer looked amazing. But as more details came out (Wiimote only, context dodge, auto-aim, first-person missiles, THE BABY) my hype leveled out. It was disappointing based on what I imagined it could be, but by launch my expectations were a little more realistic. I still was a little let down overall, but I was ready for it, so I don't count it as a huge disappointment. It has, however, tempered my expectations on any Sakamoto-led Metroid games in the future. Most of the things I didn't like about Other M seemed to have his fingerprints, rather than Team Ninja's. |

For Metroid Other M, I'd say the only part of it that was disappointing was the story/cutscenes. For all the hype and being the biggest budget ever for a Nintendo game, I expected it to be something better than what we got. Better written, better presented, all that. I hadn't watched the trailers or anything either, so I hadn't caught a glimpse of what it was shaping up to be. I didn't find it insulting or anything extreme like some people's reactions, I simply thought it wasn't good. For things like the controls, I found out about that beforehand, so I already knew they'd be terrible. Getting past all that, it was still a fun action game, so I enjoyed it overall. |
