LEGO City: Undercover on the Wii U

Welcome to the official discussion thread for LEGO City: Undercover on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

I love Legos. Always have. Always will. As I get older and discover the little bit of disposable income, I've found that besides video games, I occasionally will splurge on a Lego set. There's just something about the miniature world of Legos. Their mimicry of the real or fantasy worlds we're used to is something special. This new game, which releases in less than a week now, looks to take the Lego concept, strip it of it's usual franchise licensing, and do something in a complete new direction.

I just read a really wonderfully thorough review from Eurogamer and I wanted to post it to start this discussion thread. The game is just a few days away... are you getting it? Tell me how you like it! (or don't like it)

In addition, an important note for those downloading. I'll let the original speaker do the talking (also seen in the thread below).

For those interested in downloading the game, apparently you will need to have an external HD. Weird.

@ploot

I just did that area. It's in one of the buildings that you have to destroy objects in then rebuild it to acquire the suit.

Hmm. I will check it out when I get home. Argh!
Thanks.

This is actually one of the beefs I've had with the game. There are things that you need to destroy that aren't meaningfully different from the stuff that would just get you more bricks.

I'm doing my thing in the police office and wow, already I'm laughing more than most games ever. Such a funny little game.

That's a pretty nice shot. Like the lens flare effect. I really want to get a nice shot of the beach as well.

You know what I really wish this game had? GTA style radio stations.

@kriswright

Sometimes I find the music to be pretty good despite the fact that I have no choice on the matter

I had that exact thought today while I boated around the place forever. Of course, something like that would add to the production cost of the game quite a lot.

In other news, I was able to track down a Chase McCain figure, AND get a ten dollar Future Shop credit in the process. YAY!

@Kal-El814

A lot of then you can sort of figure out if you can't figure out how to reach certain areas or whatever which means there's something you have to destroy nearby... but yeah, it can be annoying when they're just so random AND give you a reward I imagine you need for 100%. Hopefully there's some sort of way to better identify them later on but thankfully the areas seem to be divided by enough sections that it can at least be easier to pin point what's missing and where.

All righty, I got the space suit. One question: What the heck is wrong with me? They basically tell you to do what you need to do and I missed it. For some reason I just assumed those things were unbreakable. FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER.

At least I'm back on track.

@ploot

You know, it might not add too much to the cost, depending on what music they got. Even if it was obscure pop failures and original instrumentals it would have been worth it.

You know what I wish every game had? Custom soundtracks.

It's pretty much the only thing that makes me play my 360. Well, in conjunction with Spelunky.

Fair enough.
I was picturing full radio shows and commercials and such, but even something simple like you suggest would make quite a difference.

Loving the new areas that open up once you get new abilities. I'm reaching places I never thought would even be accessible. And then I'm getting great views like this

The credits have rolled and I now have all the abilities needed to do EVERYTHING. MUAAHAHAHA!

Be sure to find the red bricks that give you unlimited dynamite and the super colour gun. They make exploring WAY more fun, with no need to search for colour-swap machines and dynamite vending machines. I am also making x48 studs at the moment. What fun.

I also just found out how to get to Lady Liberty Island. Pretty dang AWESOME!

@ploot

Thank you for saying x48 studs! I just had the 4x and I never thought to put the 2x and the 4x on at the same time... now I have 8x! Wish I had things to spend them on!

Is there another way into the space station besides on the roof? I got in last night but then had to quit and now when I try to go into it, it wont let me teleport. It teleports me then brings me right back in the same spot again. I sure to God hope this isn't some game-ending glitch. I will be PISSED.

@DrFinkelstein

I did the same but there should be a door on the side of the building that lets you in. I think you have to climb a small set of stairs to get to it.

Phew! Thank you!

Picked up my copy from GameStop today, and got TWO Chase McCain figures. Because I'm "me." Yessss.

Also, I got a code for some werewolf DLC or something? Did you guys get that?
Haven't played it at all yet, not sure when..
