Welcome to the official discussion thread for LEGO City: Undercover on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!
I love Legos. Always have. Always will. As I get older and discover the little bit of disposable income, I've found that besides video games, I occasionally will splurge on a Lego set. There's just something about the miniature world of Legos. Their mimicry of the real or fantasy worlds we're used to is something special. This new game, which releases in less than a week now, looks to take the Lego concept, strip it of it's usual franchise licensing, and do something in a complete new direction.

I just read a really wonderfully thorough review from Eurogamer and I wanted to post it to start this discussion thread. The game is just a few days away... are you getting it? Tell me how you like it! (or don't like it)

In addition, an important note for those downloading. I'll let the original speaker do the talking (also seen in the thread below).

For those interested in downloading the game, apparently you will need to have an external HD. Weird.

Yeah. A gallon of real maple syrup around here costs around 30-40 bucks. NYS, especially in our area, produces a lot of maple syrup. I personally don't like the taste.

You know, I'm not so hot on the taste of real 100% maple syrup either, but I think it's because I'm so used to the 'fake' stuff as I grew up.

Just a quick update: Already got an email that Nintendo will be crediting me back 10.00 automatically. I used a pre-paid card, so I'm assuming it will be going back to my Nintendo account. Now that I think about it, I'm sure it was done last night while I was downloading Monster Hunter. Yet again, Nintendo is quick to address customer concerns.

Brothers! I, too, dislike real maple syrup. Aunt Jemima's ButterLite all the way.

I went out to breakfast with a syrup snob once, and he paid extra for real maple syrup. So we tasted each other's pancakes, and he claimed that his were better, while I thought that they tasted EXACTLY the same. We called the server over to resolve the issue, and she admitted that they had actually run out of maple syrup. Discount Get!

That dude is a snob about Amurrican Cheese, too. Nothing wrong with Amurrican Cheese.

Played about 3 hours yesterday, really liking the game. I've got my OCD under control for just collecting things, but it bugs me when I see something and can't get to it. I do like how the build points are marked on your map once you find them even if you didn't build them, that's nice. Just wish the outfits were the same way, but thankfully the game breaks down the collection per zone (or mission) and shows you how many of each are in the area and how many you have.

Going to play some more when I get home. Framerate is kind of touchy in some spots, some cars control like complete ass (which I expected) but the game is much larger than I thought it would be. And there's a lot of shit to find.

@Anand

How can you not know? I prefer legit maple syrup, but I'm not anti the fake stuff. They're so different in consistency, though!
03/20/13, 21:04
Maple syrup flows from taps here, so I don't think I had the fake stuff until a couple weeks ago. It wasn't horrific, but it was not maple syrup.

@missypissy
I feel the same way, which is why I'm trying to attack the campaign first. I assume that you get all the necessary disguises through the campaign.

I REALLY hope there's a way to make more than one scanned Super Brick "stick" on the map. If that doesn't get unlocked in game, it should be patched in.

@Kal-El814

Yeah, noticed that last night when I had to collect a bunch in order to advance the story. Was shocking to say the least. Also, no way for outfits to stay on the map (or even be scanned)....looks like one of those have a laptop near by type of games.
03/20/13, 22:01
I came for the Lego impressions, and I stayed for the maple syrup talk. God, I love the stuff. We have the best maple syrup in Quebec. A favorite of mine is drizzling some on top of vanilla ice cream. YUM!

@Kal-El814

I don't understand, what does that mean? What are super bricks? Are they the things that make special buildings appear?

Can buildings disappear?
03/20/13, 22:22
@Guillaume

Super bricks are just worth more, either being 1000 or 10000.

Once you build buildings, they never disappear.
03/20/13, 23:02
@Guillaume

Super Bricks just give you a lot of bricks. It's possible for there to more than one within scan range at any given time, but only one scan "sticks" to the map. So if I pull up my scanner and 3 see Super Bricks, scan one, then scan the second before getting the first? The map icon for the first goes away. The Brick itself doesn't go anywhere though, just its map indicator.

It's not a huge deal, or anything, but it's annoying if you're in an area where you can see 3 or 4 Super Bricks. I'd rather just scan them all at once and get them whenever.

But I'm a whopping 2% complete, so it's certainly possible that there's an scan upgrade or a disguise that alleviates this. It's just not intuitive and I didn't realize it until I'd scanned 3 bricks and only one icon remained on the map.

This is, perhaps, the craziest thing I've ever read on the internet, well at least for this week.

Anand you never cease to amaze me.

I picked up the game yesterday and played a few hours of it as well. The cars do drive like utter ass and the player controls for jumping seem a little off as well. The game is great fun and I see myself sinking a lot of time into it. I was surprised at the amount of jaggies I see in the game, I haven't seen it mentioned yet. Hopefully they can fix the horrible load times this game has. While they are at it, some DLC that would let me reek havoc in the city would be a bonus. Not being able to destroy lego people gets me down
03/21/13, 00:53
@gtarrant

I did notice a lot of jaggies at first but I guess I stopped caring. One thing I forgot to mention earlier on is that the game seems REALLY dark. I mean it's a LEGO game... you'd expect vibrant colors but no, it was like everything was covered with a shadow even though the world is in plain daylight. I even had to crank up the brightness to max.
03/21/13, 00:59
@Kal-El814
That's true. Real maple syrup is all liquidy. And maybe sweeter? I need corn syrup in my maple syrup.

@deathly_hallows
I try!
03/21/13, 02:10
@Anand
All liquidy? What kind of "maple syrup" did you try?! Maple syrup is syrupy and terrific. The gross flavoured stuff I tried spilled all over my plate. BLECH!

@gtarrant
Lots of jaggies, yeah. It's pretty crazy, but I eventually got past it.

@VofEscaflowne
I was going to say how vibrant everything is. What the..?
03/21/13, 03:21
@ploot

Hmm, weird. I mean it's colorful... but not bright. I've never had any issue where it struck me that way before with any other game. And especially not cranking the brightness at max and not be bothered.
