LEGO City: Undercover on the Wii U

Welcome to the official discussion thread for LEGO City: Undercover on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

I love Legos. Always have. Always will. As I get older and discover the little bit of disposable income, I've found that besides video games, I occasionally will splurge on a Lego set. There's just something about the miniature world of Legos. Their mimicry of the real or fantasy worlds we're used to is something special. This new game, which releases in less than a week now, looks to take the Lego concept, strip it of it's usual franchise licensing, and do something in a complete new direction.

I just read a really wonderfully thorough review from Eurogamer and I wanted to post it to start this discussion thread. The game is just a few days away... are you getting it? Tell me how you like it! (or don't like it)

In addition, an important note for those downloading. I'll let the original speaker do the talking (also seen in the thread below).

For those interested in downloading the game, apparently you will need to have an external HD. Weird.

The 32 GB is taken up in big part by the OS. You never had 32 GB of clear storage space.

@Guillaume

I've heard conflicting reports on that. That, and when I cleared out enough space, I was able to put Batman onto the flash memory, which is HUGE, too.

The Super Nintendo Video Chat on IGN has the guy playing Lego while they talk about other games (Lego, Castlevania, Pikachu 3DS XL, EO: IV, etc). Looked pretty awesome. Only saw about one part where the loading screen was a little crazy in length. Not sure if there were really spoilers in it since it involved no actual story missions.

I found this funny.

I placed a pre-order on the game yesterday. I like that it's open world and more humorous than other games in this genre but as with most open world games, I tend to not enjoy the mission structure in general or that exploration gets tedious. I'm not really sure if I should be keeping my pre-order... I'll admit that Wii U drought probably got me to want to pick it up as it is the first original retail title in a while But something like Luigi's Mansion (never played the first though) could be money better spent too.

The more I see of this game the more I want it.

@boodyup

My hype was pretty much set from the start, and yet I still feel like you do.

Yeah, no kidding, I don't like LEGO games (though I enjoyed the Star Wars one on the Wii) but this one looks fun. Not fun enough for me to want it, but I can totally see the appeal. It looks like a fun little game but also with plenty of content and stuff to see

I guess what puts me off about LEGO games is the licenses. Like, what's wrong with the regular versions? I had fun playing as Lego Star Wars characters but I was only wishing I was the real Star Wars characters all along. But this one is just LEGOs, and with a big city to explore so it definitely looks fun.

I wonder who will get this today, and who will get it tuesday. I'm expecting tuesday myself.

@DrFinkelstein

I should have asked if they had it when I went in Friday... guess I'll find out in a few hours! The EB here has generally been good with Nintendo releases, when I'm not arguing with them that their games actually come out on days other than Thursday. I still remember how they refused to sell me Sin & Punishment on a Sunday so I had to wait until Tuesday

I've been downloading all night long, and I'm only at 47%. Yeesh, Nintendo. Its been about 8 hours.
03/18/13, 14:34
I heard it's 19 GB. I'm hoping to find out if there's any difference in the load times in disk vs. digital (yeah, yeah, wishful thinking) before I take the plunge, and to hear the reactions of the public at large, but I'm pretty sure I'll get it. Just have to decide how I'm getting it.
03/18/13, 16:18
It's $50 on Amazon, $60 on eShop. I don't like this. What's the point on the digital deluxe promotion if they raise the prices?
03/18/13, 16:35
@Guillaume

Yeah, that's very strange. Luckily I used up a Walmart giftcard I had since my birthday for $50 of it but there's no reason why it should cost $10 more =/
03/18/13, 17:19
@Guillaume Maybe I'll wait until I can find it retail after all.
03/18/13, 17:29
All I'm going to say about this is Nintendo better start offering EVERY digital download at midnight so we'll have a SHOT at playing it on launch day.
03/18/13, 17:46
@Deerock69

Yeah, especially if every game from now on is 15+ gbs

Got nothing to do after work so it should be a good couple hours I'll be able to get in. I'll start posting some impressions when I get a chance.
03/18/13, 18:22
It is now listing at 49.99 on the eShop. I am going to call them to get a 10.00 credit.
03/18/13, 18:52
Okay well the game definitely has a lot to explore when you unlock new abilities. I just climbed this building... and then it connected to more areas. And more. And then some more. And then I found bricks to build things. And then found new areas to explore. And add in some more in there I bet someone can spend a lot of time just exploring...
03/18/13, 19:10
@Deerock69
Yeah, I've had PSN game downloads that took 48 hours. Hate that.

@Guillaume
Is that a Canadian thing or is it the same in the US. I hate when Canada gets screwed on pricing considering our dollars have been around par for years now - like Microsoft points costing more in Canada. Bollocks.

@Guillaume
32GB is just so tiny in today's world, that an external hard drive seems like it would be a necessity for an avid Wii U owner regardless. I mean, my 1TB hard drive in my PS3 is 75% full, and my 120GB HDD in my 360 constantly requires fridge cleaning. Definitely have to factor that into my Wii U purchase price.
