LEGO City: Undercover on the Wii U

Welcome to the official discussion thread for LEGO City: Undercover on the Wii U!

I love Legos. Always have. Always will. As I get older and discover the little bit of disposable income, I've found that besides video games, I occasionally will splurge on a Lego set. There's just something about the miniature world of Legos. Their mimicry of the real or fantasy worlds we're used to is something special. This new game, which releases in less than a week now, looks to take the Lego concept, strip it of it's usual franchise licensing, and do something in a complete new direction.

I just read a really wonderfully thorough review from Eurogamer and I wanted to post it to start this discussion thread. The game is just a few days away... are you getting it? Tell me how you like it! (or don't like it)

In addition, an important note for those downloading. I'll let the original speaker do the talking (also seen in the thread below).

For those interested in downloading the game, apparently you will need to have an external HD. Weird.

This was on sale at Meijer last week, so I bought it. I only tried it out for about an hour or so, but it seems like it could be a pretty awesome game once it opens up more.

The unfortunate part is that the clerk tried to sell me a PS3 instead. If even stores aren't pushing for Wii U sales, then no wonder it's in trouble...!

The most fun for me came once I had all my powers. I guess the nice thing about a game like this is that it just gets better and better the more you progress, and it's true from both a gameplay and story standpoint in my opinion. Keep us posted on your progress!

I want to get this game, but why the heck after over a year since release is the game still $50 brand new?! Damn Nintendo for publishing this game...of course it wouldn't have been so good. Oh well, I can wait. I'm sure I could get a better deal on a used copy. Though sooner or later the digital download or new disc version will have to drop.

@gamewizard65 It's been lower, just gotta watch for sales.

@gamewizard65 & @Mop it up

Yeah, it's cheaper elsewhere for sure. It's $39.99 at Amazon, but even cheaper at other online sellers.

Here's the Amazon.com link. Buy it now!

and here's the CamelCamelCamel tracking of it which should show you how the trend goes, going forward.

STOP! Just stop! I have too many games as it is, that I'm playing and in my backlog. I can associate with Anand, when asked in podcast 60, 'What games are you playing?' He replies, something like, 'Ask me what games I've been buying.' Yes, I have a game buying addiction. I've always been that way. Yea, I know I can find the game at a lesser price. Eventually, I'll end up caving.

Thanks for the Camel site. Never heard of it until now. Looks like I'll need to find another part-time job. Thanks, Fink. ha,ha....

@gamewizard65

I just learned of it myself yesterday! Glad I could use it immediately to help..

I am disappointed by the lack of references to the old Lego Island games,

I'm even more concerned with how checkpoints are being handled in the story missions. Seriously, here's how these things work.

on the one I'm on I have to stop a delivery truck and then get the truck safely to a certain location.

Now theoretically if I stop the delivery truck then the game will put a checkpoint there because I've already proven that I can stop the truck and so if something goes wrong while I'm getting the truck to safety I can just restart at the point where I stopped the truck.

Of course I get no such luck here. I've got to stop the truck again, And of course I get to listen to that mission related dialogue I already heard. It's wonderful.

A flaw but a minor one.

As for Lego Island... OH MAN! I forgot about that series! I LOVED that as a kid.

@DrFinkelstein yeah it gets better, I have to restart this mission because apparently if you are supposed to get a picture of a car pulling in by the limo company nobody bothered to think:

"you know, maybe we should add some coding to make sure that car doesn't, quite literally, become the center of a massive traffic jam."

I had to restart the mission because of that, except they don't have a restart mission option for some reason so I had to go back to the title screen and restart the entire game.

I can say this as someone who really loved the game and 100%ed it, but it's a really glitchy game. I once had to restart the game because all the helicopter pads stopped working and I needed to fly somewhere. Another time one of the gold bricks I had been searching for disappeared until I left the area and came back.

That said, I'd rather they have kept it the size it was glitches and all, than have them eliminate the glitches with a significantly reduced in size city.

I never really had the glitches you're all mentioning... and I too 100%'d the game, but the one glitch I can say would happen was something like the traffic jam as pictured above. They could have done a little more work on that. Still wish there was a sequel. Just give me a new story, new city layout, and a few new/replaced moves in the move set and I'm buying it all anew.

@DrFinkelsteinFrom what I've seen of my son playing it, the Marvel Superheroes game is on the same scale as Lego City and seems to be as/or more polished. That said, I'd love an explicit sequel.

I need to find some time to get back into this game. I bought it on sale a while back and played a couple hours of it, but then something else distracted me and I haven't gone back yet.
11/25/14, 23:37
I cleared the game and went on for some traveling and let me tell you: the super color gun is a godsend for post game exploration.

@pokepal148

Absolutely is. It's the most key friggin' bonus in the game really. or item or whatever

Why does Nintendo refuse to put this game on sale on the eShop? We've even had Lego sales before. I mean, at this point there can't be many people buying this game at full price, so anything they can get from a sale is gravy.

@Jargon

They DID put it On Sale recently..right? Maybe I misread your post (I think you missed a word in the first sentence?), but I thought I saw it on sale around E3 time..in that big sale? Have you looked for the disc online? You can probably find it cheeeap now.
07/11/15, 05:59
@Mr_Mustache

I'm 90% sure it wasn't included in that sale. Some other Lego stuff was.

As for the disc, I tend not to buy used until after the generation is over and even then, the game still sells for $40 on Amazon used it seems.
07/11/15, 07:23
@Jargon

You are correct, the Lego game that was included in that big sale, was that Lego Movie videogame. I cannot think of the exact title. I saw where I posted about a year ago, complaining about the game not being on sale. I never did buy it. I can't remember if I ever checked that Camel site that Fink mentioned. I was bummed that Lego Undercover wasn't included in the digital sale as well. This is why Nintendo doesn't sale more games, as well as consoles. They need to lower the price.

EDIT: Well, after just checking Amazon & Ebay, this game is going to be 'ONE OF THOSE GAMES' that you'll never be able to find for a fairly inexpensive price. Basically, $40 is the best price on either site for a used physical disc. So, Nintendo probably knows this, so the digital price will never be lower or go on sale often. Looks like I will be skipping this title. I have sooo many games now, still new in the case or downloaded, its not like 'I NEED' another game.

I'll only buy this game if I can find it around $30, preferably lower. I hate being that way, cause a great game deserves to be supported, but by now, I doubt one can find many new physical copies that will benefit the developer. Yes, there are new ones, but the asking price is high and the thing is, someone already bought those games, so its not like the developer will see any more profit, unless I buy the game digital. I'm sorry, I just don't want to pay full price, $60 is too much, at least for me. I'm not willing to pay it, so I guess I will not play it.

I always wonder, who are all these people that bought the game brand new, never opened it, ect. Like why? I mean this game was never perceived as a, 'OMG, I HAVE TO HAVE IT, AAA GAME!' Sure, I keep hearing its a really good game, but why are there so many brand new physical copies available on amazon, ebay, ect? Sometimes I feel that there is this huge group of people, with nothing better to do than to buy up all the brand new shit, somehow knowing one day, they'll be able to sell the items at a higher price than when the item was first introduced to the public. Either that, or the morons bought the item years ago and just have not been able to unload it, but by pure chance/luck, that item is now worth more than when originally released.

Hell, I have not even thought about this game in about a year and then I saw this thread and I'm all pissed cause the game is no less cheaper than a year ago. So, now I can forget about the game, again and then in another year or so, something will make me remember it, and I can rage all over again about the price being even higher, ect, ect.
