END AUTOMATED TEXT. THREAD CREATOR INFORMATION BELOW.

I love Legos. Always have. Always will. As I get older and discover the little bit of disposable income, I've found that besides video games, I occasionally will splurge on a Lego set. There's just something about the miniature world of Legos. Their mimicry of the real or fantasy worlds we're used to is something special. This new game, which releases in less than a week now, looks to take the Lego concept, strip it of it's usual franchise licensing, and do something in a complete new direction.

I just read a really wonderfully thorough review from Eurogamer and I wanted to post it to start this discussion thread. The game is just a few days away... are you getting it? Tell me how you like it! (or don't like it)

In addition, an important note for those downloading. I'll let the original speaker do the talking (also seen in the thread below).

For those interested in downloading the game, apparently you will need to have an external HD. Weird.

Totally getting this. This is the type of game you can leisurely play after a rough day at work since it's very light and humorous.

I'm surprised people don't talk a lot about the graphics. I know this isn't truly the stuff people expect of Gen 8 but it's a pretty game nonetheless and the colors really pop-out at you.

@boodyup

Some reviews seem to almost dismiss the graphics all together, but I don't understand why. I think, from the 1080p youtube videos I've seen, the game looks damn great. I can't wait to run around in that world.

@DrFinkelstein

Great to hear you feel the same!!! The game is kind of a weird mix between the simplicity of lego blocks and some fairly nice detailed textures. It actually has a neat 3d effect that I think is pretty cool. My biggest complaint is that it sounds like the screen tearing isn't completely removed from the game. Drastically better than what was shown at e3 but still slightly disappointing it's even being mentioned.

Regardless, I'm pretty excited about playing it.

I'm interested, for sure. The writing seems pretty good, and that's going to be the main draw for me. I haven't watched a 1080p stream yet, but I didn't notice anything amazing from the vids I have seen. It'll be gameplay and humor that'll make or break my enjoyment, here.

@kriswright

This one goes up to 720p, but the one below (not a direct feed) goes to 1080p and you can still see the nice texture work in many instances. It's not uber doober realistic but then again, it's freakin' Lego.

Features some pretty extreme pop-in from what I saw in that second video. I'll be picking it up day 1, barring any major scares from reviews.

Kind of disappointing that a Lego game doesn't have multiplayer, but I guess the scope of the game is pretty ambitious.

@PogueSquadron

I've never really cared for past Lego games. What multiplayer was in those, that isn't in this, and what made it so fun? I often am a single-player gamer so this focus on this game suits me just fine.

Reviewers have been tweeting about it and they seem to enjoy it. The one major problem you hear from them is the numerous and long load times.

Otherwise, it sounds like a beefy game, especially if you're into collecting stuff, as two of them mentioned having a 30% completion rate after 20 hours.

I'm not a big GTA fan, but can't wait to get my hands on this game. Why? Games that focus on realism is somewhat of a turn off to me. Especially since I play video games to escape reality. Plus the game doesn't take itself seriously, which is also another plus in my book. The humor seems to be there (I actually laughed a little at the kung-fu seen when he got KO'd). This game seems to be one of those time waster games that'll take me a while to complete (10 literal minutes to get from one side of the city to the other? That's insane). I'm really pumped for this game.

@Guillaume

Wow. Most games nowadays are over with in 20 hours *coughcastlevania3dscough*.

@Guillaume

I really liked hearing about these Super Bricks you collect. Apparently they are used to build new structures in the city. An example is a helipad. I hope doing such a thing would mean we could expand where we can go and land with the helicopter or something like that. High potential. And I hope the collection is reminiscent of Banjo Kazooie, a top game for me which has significant collection.

Ubisoft's loss is Traveler's Tales gain. I would have probably gotten it regardless, but now its with a little extra OOOMPH!

@shinriley

Dude, I see you coughing the Castlevania 3DS thing regarding the length, but it does NOT feel like they've skimped on...ANYTHING! I'm booting this up every time I'm holding my 3DS with the intent to play something. I don't think its going to win any awards for writing, but the gameplay is pretty tight and the boss encounters are so difficult they are broken down into bite-sized chunks (thankfully). To me, its almost akin to RE 4 in that it really doesn't give a shit what the previous titles and efforts were. No, it is not RE 4 caliber, but I call this wholly worthy interactive entertainment, and any Castlevania fan should be happy that the Castlevania name and mythos is attached to it.

I remember a bit of load times from previous Lego games. I imagine this will be a little worse given how much is going on, but that's alright. Barring any hugely worrisome reviews I read, I'll be buying this. Anybody know if it's going to be downloadable? I want to put that hard drive I bought to use.

EDIT: Just read the download thread. Nevermind! (I am so uncool.)

Skimmed through IGN's review of it, not sure how much I trust a review that spends a long time talking about how it's to fix a drought in software. But beyond that, it seems like long loading and some pop-in are about the only real complaints (also lack of depth). Looks like a fun title and I loved Lego Island as a kid (my first real PC game) so it'll be a day one download.

This game sounds pretty cool. But I really don't like the other Lego games. Hmm...
Posted: 03/14/13, 16:01:23
@DrFinkelstein We've only really put time into Lego Harry Potter, but the multiplayer is essentially just another player running around with you. Everyone has their own abilities to progress through the various obstacles. It's not the deepest thing in the world but it's just stupid fun to have while you're drinking haha. Fun fan service and music and simple gameplay. Except for Lego Batman 2, I don't really enjoy the Lego games single player.

Ok, I might have to go on media blackout after this. Only a couple days left for me to get this game.

@TheOldManFromZelda

I've got that base covered, but are they implying it is more than 32 GB? That would be...HUGE!
