Pandora's Tower Review (Nintendo Wii) (8.5)  by

Looks like this game is coming out on April 16th now. It's probably a good idea to move out of March with Monster Hunter, Need for Speed and Lego City all coming out.

Oh, then please forgive my enthusiasm.

I don't see this game selling very well, though. It is an OP Rainfall game, but I think it's been the least eagerly awaited of the bunch. It doesn't have Xenogears or Final Fantasy names backing it, and it's a much stranger beast to sum up. Most of the trailers and such that I've seen (which admittedly were the ones that turned up prior to the EU release) didn't really give you the best idea of how the game actually played, and sometimes made the game look like a less accomplished take on God of War or something.

EDIT: Not to mention it's late to the party, now that the kids have them newfangled Wii U's and their dubsteps and whatchamacallit.

- I'm not picking this one up ... even though this game could prove to be a cult classic ...

S

Get it, and sell it to Oldmanwinter in 14 months for $700.

@chrisguy

Woooooo, Radiant Dawn! (Check out the RD Club!)

I'm excited for the game (my wife pre-ordered it for me earlier this year, I love her) and am trying to clear my current backlog a little more so I can really jump into Pandora's Tower!

"Action RPG published by Nintendo and developed by Ganbarion. May very well be the last Wii game published by Nintendo."

Didn't somebody tell me this WASN'T an RPG? What the H, man?

The theme is kind of a turn-off, but the game looks like it could be fun. It doesn't sound up to the same quality as the other famous RPGs, so I'll be passing on getting this one on day one, but will grab it sometime down the line.

Can you get this just anywhere? Or is thing another stinky GameStop exclusive?

Might have been me? It really doesn't look like an RPG in gameplay videos at all. Looks more like a 3D action game, like a DMC or God of War or what-have-you.

@Mr_Mustache

Given that it's not published by Nintendo, it's no surprise the rest of the sentence is not entirely true either.

@kriswright

Should be available at any retailer XSeed as managed to sell stocks of the game to.

edit - Ordered off amazon.ca. If simply because the publisher has been so good to us. I guess I might get to it in a year.

@Mop it up

yeah..the theme bugs me too a bit..

@Mr_Mustache

Sell it later to OMW? Good idea man!

@Guillaume

HA! Well, whoever put it in our database..put it in our database!

It isn't an RPG, but it does have RPG elements. The same way it isn't a dating sim, but has dating sim elements, and so on. You are able to level up your character, equip him with various items that boost certain stats and all that, but I wouldn't sum up the game as an action-RPG. When you're in one of the towers, it feels more like a 3D version of the DS Castlevanias, or a distant cousin of Metroid Prime, with battle mechanics borrowed from some high-action brawler. At times it feels Zelda-like too, especially during the boss fights, which are pure class.

Got my copy today. Also picked up Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy. Because why not.

Well... My contribution to Operation Rainfall is complete. I said I'd buy Pandora's Tower if it ever came over, and today I made good on the promise.

I have no idea when I will find the time to play the damn thing, but I got it.

And Rolling Western 2.

I have too many games.

I have to go pick this up to complete the Operation Rainfall Trifectia and I have been waiting for this game for a while. XSEED has said that they may not ship out a second shipment unless the first one sells well so those waiting till later down the line may want to change their minds on that stance.

Also once I get the game I will be doing some blog posts on the front page of the Nintemple site about my playthough and about the game if you want to see what I am going through in the game.

I figure the trifecta completes my journey with the Wii. Its been a fun ride!

Got the game on Friday and have played up to after the 2nd Tower. Had a little problem with the second Tower but after I figured out what to do I felt silly. Fave part of the game is the music so far.

Against my better judgment (financially), I bought this today. I said I'd buy all of the Rainfall games, so I did my part.

@Mr_Mustache
