I'm just about finished with the game, I will say that I like it a lot better now than I did in the beginning, this is a game with tons of problems and shortcomings but I feel like there's a lot of potential for them to improve upon it if they make a sequel.

If what Mercury Steam says is true, they plan to end the series with Lords of Shadow 2 and then want to move onto other projects.

Yeah they said that on the Giant Bombcast, that Mercury Steam has said they're done and won't make another. Another interesting tid-bit about this game is that supposedly the developers had leaked that is was supposed to be for XBL and PSN and that's why all of the art assets seem way too detailed for the 3DS's resolution and the frame-rate stutters if there are more than 2 enemies on the screen.

Anyway, I think it would be cool if another developer took over, with a new story and new characters, or give it back to Iga and make another 2-D game, I just hope this isn't the end of Castlevania on Nintendo handhelds.

If this is the end of Castlevania for Mercury Steam, I wonder how they'll end it then. Dracula is gone for good? That kinda kills Castlevania... and I'm not sure if rebooting it again is good. Kinda annoying if they do.

@VofEscaflowne
Dracula's a concept, he can't be destroyed, future apocalyptic dracula in the year 2999!

If any series could handle it, or maybe even need it, it's Castlevania. The lore is a mess, between the original games, their prequels, several retcons, and IGA decreeing that random games aren't part of the canon anymore.

There's potential in what they're trying to execute. But the actual execution we got here leaves something to be desired. I had eShop credit burning a hole in my pocket but the quality of the game doesn't justify a $40 purchase, especially on the heels of something like Fire Emblem. Alas.

To be fair, not many games can really follow up Awakening and still look good on their own.

I was gonna start that difficulty but does it unlock anything? I'm not sure if I should really bother when there's other stuff I could be playing.

You can continue leveling up your characters (if you start from the very beginning; essentially doing a 'New Game +') but nothing more gets unlocked. If you do get the 100% completion rate, it unlocks the final cutscene "Separate Ways" and that's it. If you play through again, it's just for fun.

But Lords of Shadow IS a reboot. That would mean that after 3 games, they'd reboot it again.

Maybe they should reboot the reboot?

Or just "ReBirth" the original series?!?

They could just say that Lord of Shadows is a separate universe and then continue with the main-line series starring Soma or Alucard as the protagonist.

@deathly_hallows

Cox already said that!

@deathly_hallows

It's pretty obvious that it is a separate universe. I guess they could just go back to the previous story afterwards... not that much of it made sense

Probably why they all sound like Shrek derivatives.

Well, I've finished the game 100%, unlocked everything, did all the maps, scrolls, power-ups, what have you. Pretty fun little action game, IMO. I'm not sure I'd rank it quite as highly as Dracula's Curse or Dawn of Sorrow, but it was a really solid game none-the-less. I may re-play it again just for kicks.

@VofEscaflowne

Was the original storyline of Castlevania really all THAT confusing to people? Maybe I'm just a bigger fan than most, but the story and timeline of the series makes fine sense when you actually look at each game and the events that transpire in them. This isn't, like, The Legend of Zelda-level of confusing, where absolutely NOTHING makes sense, even when it does.

Fantastic!...

03/26/13, 06:10
I've only played the demo, but man what I did play was extremely fun. No way in hell the game deserves a score in the 4 range. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with reviewers now a days!?!?

I understand everyone having his/her own opinion, like I feel just what I played the game should be somewhere in the 8 range. Though, I would understand someone else thinking the game is in the 7 range. When it comes to rating a game lower than a 5 or 6, the game just has to suck, meaning controls are horrid, alot of graphical problems, ect. I felt the controls were great, music was great and graphics were excellent.

It just sucks that I have soo many games to play and I just cannot bring myself to buy anymore games until I at least complete 10 of the games in my backlog.

Anyone else dig this one back up after learning that Mercury Steam is making the new Metroid game?

I kept hearing E3 commentators say "oh no it's the same developers who made that terrible Castlevania game on 3DS", well... it's not great, but it's not terrible, there are some aspects of it I really appreciate.

Right off the bat I'm reminded of how insanely bad the story elements were, like the worst ever, the first 10 minutes are unstoppable cut scenes that are maybe the worst I've see in any game in terms of making no sense and being utterly pointless and boring.

The other thing I noticed is that they did a great job with the atmosphere and the environments, the music and the art-design and the lighting are all pretty great. The characters themselves look bad, but the levels are wonderful.

This is not a popular game lol. I hope Metroid is better!
06/23/17, 04:03
Haven't gone back to this game since I beat it, but I don't remember it being terrible. Maybe I'll check it out again and see if my memories are correct.
06/24/17, 03:25
Yeah, I thought it was alright. Sub-Igavania and not really something I want to revisit, though. I hope they can deliver a much better game with Samus Returns!
