Post a great gaming soundtrack! [roundtable]

And comment on the previous submissions!

I basically made this thread so that I could pimp Jake Kaufman's Adventure Time Soundtrack, which I looked up after watching last week's 'Sup, Holmes with Austin Ivansmith from WayForward (where some of our old buds from the IGN boards also work). WayForward has some pretty incredible in-house talent, including some of the best game and graphics designers around and Jake Kaufman, who is kind of a monster, handling the audio. Also, 'Sup, Holmes is a surprisingly enjoyable window into the world of game development.

He can seemingly write quality songs in any style, including vocal tracks. The soundtrack was my favorite part of the Adventure Time demo. I probably hung out on the menu screen, listening to that opening vocal song for four minutes straight the first time that I booted it up. And a lot of the in-game music harkens back to 8-bit favorites (like Adventure of Link, natch!). I'm only a couple of tracks in, but it's pretty awesome so far. But don't take it from me! Check it out, yo:

Okay, now you post something catchy!

I'm pretty obsessed with the EarthBound soundtrack. It is just a varied soundtrack with that runs the gamut from cheery to weird to ominous and many other emotions. My favorite song is the track "Pokey Means Business" which occurs near the end. It is a fairly sharp change in style since most of the game's soundtrack which I feel is based more around horn instruments into a heavy metal guitar riff.

Hmm where to start. Okay, obvious one first

My childhood in a bottle. Fantastic and catchy chiptunes that will make me forever nostalgic.

A little bit weirder of one now and not one many people will know...although I have talked about this game a little bit over at NT. Can't find a youtube link to the full soundtrack but heres one of the songs and a link to the soundtrack download. You have to scroll down a little bit to get to it though.

Bioshock. Brilliance. Amazing. Among the slew of dudebroish shooters that were released last gen this game came out and made me fall in love with Rapture and all it offered. Amazing score, amazing game.

That's all for now otherwise I may fill this topic up.

EDIT: Still have no idea how to embed these. Help please.

Not my favorite, but it's the one thats been blasting my ears the most lately.

It's a great soundtrack though not for everyone. But I love it, just like the game. And this is the best song:

I love, love, love the Earthbound/Mother 2 soundtrack! The Mother 3 soundtrack too. And the Mother soundtrack. Ooooooo.

As for the rest of the games, I've yet to play most of them, so I can't say how I feel about their soundtracks. I've heard a lot of good stuff about Hotline Miami's music, so I just might start with that one.

Personally I think Xenoblade Chronicles has one of the best soundtracks out there:

I couldn't find the full, 90+ song soundtrack in one link, so you'll have to make do with the special soundtrack. My favourite song in the game, and one of my favourite songs in any game ever:

I'm gonna keep an eye on whatever Manami Kiyota composes in the future for sure.

Great thread!

Thanks for posting the Earthbound OST, Chris. I own the Japanese CD of it but it's lost in my attic storage somewhere. Love it. (actually the same guy posted a better quality version)

My first pick, the Xenogears soundtrack by Yasunori Mitsuda. Amazing.

@Xbob42

Didn't know about this game. Plopped down the $10 for it on Steam, and damn it's addicting!

EarthBound would be my pick to mention, but since that's been done... I found the soundtrack to Kururin Paradise to be rather great:

The soundtrack to Kururin Squash! is pretty darn good, too, but there aren't many available to show it off:
