BIT.TRIP Presents... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien Review (Nintendo Wii U eShop) (9.5)  by

As this game is set to release next week, I figured we might as well start discussion now. Who else is excited? Will it be better than the first game? WHO KNOWS?!

Also, in a strange show of complete honesty, Gaijin just posted about the build differences. It kind of sounds like the Wii U version might be the best version? Unless you have a good controller for your PC? The PS3 version is missing some stuff and the Xbox 360 version has the worst load times, apparently.

NWR review

I didn't know about the "dance" button and I didn't know what the bonus retro levels looked like. I'm EXTREMELY psyched.

@Guillaume
I caught a screenshot somewhere of a bonus level , and yeah, looks amazing.

I want this but have already spent $30 on games this week. And I have no time! AND I promised myself I wouldn't get back into Runner....but man, it looks awesome. Maybe on Steam one day.

I'll pick this up when I get home. I've got the 3DS saga and I love Runner.

I'm totally putting a 5 dollar DDP coupon towards this.

@TheOldManFromZelda

They threw checkpoints in there for hardcore gamers like Daemon Hatfield, who couldn't bear the thought of repeating one-minute stages if he got hit. But he shouldn't have gotten hit since...you know, he's so hardcore. He's so hardcore, he bought a house to play Rock Band! True story, he said it in a podcast.

Sorry, his review of the original Bit.Trip Runner bugged me when he lamented the lack of checkpoints, when there was only one stage (1-11) that really needed them based on length.

Can't wait to give this one a spin tonight!

@ludist210

I'm not hardcore by any means, but I found some stages obnoxiously cheap. It would've been nice to have checkpoints in the original. Would've made the experience less frustrating, and more fun for me. Maybe playing on the 3DS was the problem?

The great thing about these checkpoints is they appear to be optional. Keep the HARDCORE GAMERZ happy while appealing to the BABY CASUALZ. Although I'm a bit clear on what the advantage to not using the checkpoints is... score I'd image?

@TheOldManFromZelda

It was smoother and more responsive on WiiWare for sure, but I 100%'d it on 3DS and not WiiWare. Odd. Both played okay, and you really did have to be precise to nail most areas.

@Zero

They're for Daemon. They should be called Check-Daemons.

@Zero

It gives you 50,000 points by skipping it if I'm not mistaken. Also I think you get 10,000 points by jumping before the finish line

@Zero

I think they unlock secret characters if you skip them.

Tiny spoiler I suppose but there's an unlockable character that's naked and has his ballsack swinging all over the place as he jumps What the hell!?

@VofEscaflowne

Uhh....wow.

Playing the game on "Just right". Then I saw certain people boasting scores much higher than mine and went for the hard mode. Think I'll be going back to medium...

@missypissy

I took a pic of it

It's kinda hilarious

Woo! Totally have the top score in Level 1-5!!...for now.. yeah yeah. But I feel good about it. :)

Posted: 02/27/13, 03:54:14
Huh, apparently there's a glitch that overwrites your score regardless of it being higher or not. Ouch. But at least the devs told me via Twitter that Nintendo has the patch and is testing it now.

@VofEscaflowne

Yeah, I read about that glitch. I might hold off until they fix that.

How big is the game, by the way?
