Welcome to the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate thread! This will be our headquarters for coordinating our Hunts, sharing stories of war, and helpful hints for our brothers-in-arms, compatriots, friends, and neighbors. Please be mindful of folks' different definitions of "spoilers," and remember that not EVERYBODY played Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, though everybody totally should've.


The "burden" of running this thread has been placed upon me but...I can't do it alone. I will lean on Maxi and others to help with the heavy lifting occasionally, both in planning things and also in feeding this thread. Please keep it bumped (once we get going). If you could, let us know if you're getting this game, WHEN you're getting this game, and what your aspirations are so we can get us situated in groups with likeminded people. Do you want to barely play this game? Is this going to be your new #1? The most fun with this game is had when you get to go out with a group of guys week in week out, so if we can find someone with a schedule similar to yours, you'll have the most fun with it.

I got the game yesterday afternoon, but haven't popped it in yet. I had some Madden to play. I will most likely get to it today/tonight. I'm excited to go shrooming.

Booted it up this morning to install the update. Man, some of the face textures get muddy when you zoom in, but it's not a bad looking game by any stretch.

Man, I forgot how slow this game starts off. Can't wait to fight a Great Jaggi, lol. I'm going with dual blades for now, and will probably forge a nice hunting horn for online play with you guys.

What's up with the Marina? I've been skipping through a lot of text, admittedly, but is that the new online hub? I'm actually tempted to get the 3DS version just for the streetpasses. Trading guild cards with other hunters sounds fun, and there's even a dedicated NPC who looks after all that stuff.

The online stuff is more streamlined then in Tri. You can actually go online from the offline portion of the game without backing out to the start menu like in Tri. There is 3 different sections of online play if I remember the menu from yesterday's stream correctly. One was for adhoc party with the Wii U and 3DS. There was another one for just 3DS I believe and then the bottom one was for Wii U online play by itself. You can do the trading guild cards in all of the styles and games so I don't think that is a problem. Also one thing I noticed yesterday is that you can with your farm have something being harvested and that will continue online as you hunt so you can collect that online. You couldn't do that with Tri.

This is awesome!

Yeah, the game definitely feels a bit more streamlined than Tri.

Yes, the Marina is the new online hub, from what I gather. I haven't messed around with it lately.

Digging it (again), though I haven't done much of anything yet. I am going at it with the Switch Axe for now. I need to go find some Iron Ore to upgrade it...that's how slow I'm currently moving.

One downer: the text is minuscule, even on my HD TV. It's hard to read.

Yeah, it took forever to reach the Great Jag! That said, I think that this game, in ONE DAY, has become my most played Wii U title. I'm back on the wagon (off the wagon?). The Gunlance is bad. ass. (But it takes forever to upgrade!)

3 Ultimate is the first game to kill my Gamepad battery. Does anyone else get strained wrists from using the Gamepad for long periods of time.

Some of the menus and stuff are pretty confusing, coming from Tri. But there are a lot of options that I haven't fooled around with yet. I did find an option to make ZL and ZR equivalent to L and R. So that's cool.

Not sure how I feel about the lack of subquests yet. It seems like a loss, but then again, less subquests = more kickass monster fighting.

Got the game installed and updated, made my character last night and did like the first quest or something. Was just blowing through the text so I have no idea. Got a four day weekend coming up, so I'll start working on this game then. Will give me some time to work on Lego some more.

I never went out of my way to do subquests (unless the subquest was an item I needed) so I'm not sure that it bothers me. I haven't had a marathon session of 3 Ultimate yet, so it doesn't hurt my wrists, and I usually just rest it on my lap when I'm playing.

How are we using the Gamepad screen? Standard or Dynamic? I'm trying Dynamic for now...clears up the main screen for more beautiful monster hunting.

Yeah, what happened? Both of you dudes disappeared, and I was like "hmm?" I figured we were almost done with the Quest, so I went back to the box to see that there were already 9 in there. "Oh, I just gotta find 3 more?" I walked around for another 20 minutes to find ONE mushroom patch, and snaked 2 Uniques from it. Another 10 minutes and I finally found the 3rd one. What the H. I got some solid coin though, woo!

--On the wagon; how do you think they get the game from town to town?

My left thumb was hurting last night, and I never had that issue with the Black CCCPro, even in my famed (if only to me) 15 hour session.

How far are you now? Is anyone around RIGHT NOW? I was gonna get some Madden in, but I can do a quick quest or two instead.

Dynamic! The clear screen is fantastic, but having to look down to check my health and stamina is kind of a pain. But I can't wait to get in there and mess around with the panels. Customizability rules.

How are you guys liking the grafx so far? I think they're all right. Some weak textures here and there, but nice overall. And the framerate has been good so far. The framerate in the demo stumbled while fighting the Plesioth.

Maybe 1 or 1:30 am? I was pretty fucking tired, though. I basically fell asleep in front of my TV for a while. How far am I? I just did the first Cap mission in single-player. I've still got a bunch of piddly crap to do to unlock the next monster mission, though. Fucking mushrooms!

My right hand was hurting. I might have to open up the Wii U Pro Controller that came in the mail last week.

There are some really rough textures here and there (particularly faces when you zoom in), but nothing that stands out as "awful". I haven't noticed a framerate dip yet, but I haven't gotten into a heavy fight yet either.

Should be hunting Buffalo Bills, because they're done this year. OH YEAH, I WENT THERE!
