And here we are.

*THE DEMO IS A DEMON, JUST GET THE GAME!!*

Welcome to the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate thread! This will be our headquarters for coordinating our Hunts, sharing stories of war, and helpful hints for our brothers-in-arms, compatriots, friends, and neighbors. Please be mindful of folks' different definitions of "spoilers," and remember that not EVERYBODY played Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, though everybody totally should've.

The "burden" of running this thread has been placed upon me but...I can't do it alone. I will lean on Maxi and others to help with the heavy lifting occasionally, both in planning things and also in feeding this thread. Please keep it bumped (once we get going). If you could, let us know if you're getting this game, WHEN you're getting this game, and what your aspirations are so we can get us situated in groups with likeminded people. Do you want to barely play this game? Is this going to be your new #1? The most fun with this game is had when you get to go out with a group of guys week in week out, so if we can find someone with a schedule similar to yours, you'll have the most fun with it.

It feels pretty damned good when you score a perfectly timed charged slash with a huge, unwieldy weapon, though. Especially when said slash stops them in their tracks or cracks their head open.

You just have to remember to put your weapon away when you want to move around the battlefield.

I love the Great Sword, but in the interest of novelty, I'll probably go Gunlance.

I like the mobility granted by the Hammer, especially given that I have a terrible tendancy to not block.
03/07/13, 16:55
Yeah, I never block, either. I should choose a weapon based on that.

Wait, the hammer is mobile?!
03/07/13, 20:19
No blocking with the Switch Axe. You press the button to block and it...switches. Hence the name.
03/07/13, 20:41
@Anand
Not super mobile, and when you swing it's pretty much like the great sword. However, I can still run around pretty freely even when the weapon is out. I dislike it's charge move though. The no-blocking deficiency doesn't affect me as much since... well... I don't block...

@Anand, @CPA Wei -

IMO Hammer can be pretty mobile, as you almost always have the option of rolling after an attack, unless you commit to some of the heavier KO-inducing attacks. It's one of the many reasons I like to use it so much. If you have something like Marathon Runner (or use a Mega Dash Juice), its pretty easy to run around with charged attack at the ready as well and get in super pounds whenever necessary.

If you want the ability to defend, you're not going to get it with the Hammer at all. You have to be able to evade. The trade-off is some of the best offensive power in the game, as well as much easier KOs.

As an aside, I think I'm going to start using SnS, Dual Blades, Hunting Horn, Long Sword and Bows in MH3U. While playing Tri in the meantime, I'm expanding to the SnS, and bringing back the Long Sword. I need to switch it up a bit more, been exclusively running Hammers for too long lol.

@Dynablade

As much as I roll around out there, maybe I should be using something other than Sword 'N Shield. Hmmmmm..
03/07/13, 23:27
Yeah the Hammer can be pretty mobile if most of the time you use the charge attack to attack and not just walk around with it not charged then when you get near the monster you just stop and then hit the monster. If you do that then you might miss the quicker monsters.Also you can roll out of any hit that you do so after you do a triple pound and usually there is a delay after the last hit just getting back to hitting again well you can roll and get back to attacking again. After most hits I believe you can roll so it is like the SnS in that regard.

Also my online friend is putting up weapon tutorials for each weapon from the demo. He so far has Dual Blades,Sword and Shield, Great Sword, and Hunting Horn up. He has a few others recorded but he needs to put them together.
03/08/13, 01:32
You can roll out of almost any attack, right? Unless you're using the Lance, or something? Rolling after the hit was a key part of Great Sword-ing.

@ludist210
Switch Axe is cool, but kind of confusing. So many options!

That said, I think I'll go Gunlance for a while. It's like a converse Lancer!

@Anand

Yeah pretty much. You get to back hop or sidestep for weapons like Lance,Switchaxe, Gunlance,Light bowgun, Heavy bowgun and Bow.All the rest of the weapons you can roll to dodge.

Oh here is my online's friends channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/billybobjho/videos?view=0

Here is another channel I found for the demo which I found for all the weapons and on both monsters in the demo.

@Anand

Yeah, Gunlance was fun to mess around with, but I don't see myself sticking with it long-term. Maybe I should try it in the demo again...

I wish the demo had online play. That would be helpful.

So, my roommate downloaded the demo yesterday and I finally had a chance to give the game a whirl. The three weapon classes I've tried so far have been the Long Sword, Lance, and Dual Blades. I've always really liked to be mobile in games, so I'm march more partial to a class that can roll, rather than one that shields. That said, I did really enjoy the lance, and could maybe see myself using that. Overall, I think I liked the Long Sword and Dual Blades the best though. I don't know which one I would end up using as my main, but both of those seem to fit my play style the best. I do have a whole lot of other classes to try out yet though!

My pants have a small bulge thinking about this game.

That Amazon deal looks great, but am I ensured to have the game(s) the day it's released in the brick n mortars? That's the only thing that worries me...

HYPE... RISING...
03/11/13, 18:40
I refuse to buy discs anymore, but I wish I could take advantage of the Amazon sale to get $20 off both. But I love having all my Wii U games one click away and I'm not gonna change for 20 bucks.
03/11/13, 22:01
WOW!
Looks pretty damn good for an HD remake!

No dice on the Amazon deal. While it is nice, it's not worth waiting the 10 days for the games to show up. LAME.
