Fluidity: Spin Cycle Review (Nintendo 3DS eShop) (8.9)  by

It's out! Quick impressions:

- The biggest change is that the Metroidvania stage design seems to be gone. Each rainbow drop appears to be in its own unique stage, rather than a few dozen of them spread out in each large area. So far, it's very linear, though it's still early on. Every stage also has its own puzzle piece to find, and I assume many of them require replaying the stage with abilities acquired in later chapters.

- There is now a ranking system that grades you on how many droplets you acquired and how quickly you reached the rainbow drop. It's not too tough to get the full five stars, but I do think it could be a source of frustration later on.

- The visuals have a bit more "life" to them. Background elements move around a lot, little captions tell bits of story, the puddle and rainbow drops are lively little characters now.

- Tilting the system isn't as bad as I expected, but it still feels pretty awkward. Especially when you have to tilt it upside down. This is restricted to certain stages, though: it's about a 50/50 split so far.

- Gathering for too long now reduces your health. Maybe I'll get the gather-splode later on, but I used Gather a lot to corral straggling droplets, and I kind of miss doing so with less risk. Oh well.

Overall, pretty solid so far. It's a lot like the WiiWare original 30 minutes in, but with improvements in some areas and questionable changes in others. Anyone else get it yet?

You're a real trooper. I put this game in my "ongoing" folder, which means I fooled myself into thinking I'll go back to it, but really never will.

Awh really? I have such fond memories of splooshing about and exploding and sucking myself back together, T2 style. Loved that mechanic.

I'm not enjoying this game very much, mostly because of the full-rotation-required stages! I've only made it past the first world. The boss fight was pretty cool though.

Don't turn your 3DS upside down, you fools. Hold it more horizontally, and tilt it forward when needed. Play it more like Kirby Tilt N' Tumble.

I'm a fool! I never played Tilt N' Tumble, and I don't recall Fluidity's manual/ tutorials suggesting holding the 3DS in that manner, but I shall try it out and see how it works.

lol same here. It's been on my home screen for months but I never select it. It's not a bad game or anything, just... not as good as the Wii one. Oh well.

Same with me. It's a good game, and I've probably played it for around 10 hours, but I've put the game on hold. Maybe one day I'll feel like playing it more and I'll finish it.

I feel like I'm the only one who really liked this game, although I definitely agree that it doesn't touch the Wii version. That game was amazing.

No, I really like the game too. I actually think it's right up there with the Wii game, and that many of the changes they made to the concept had to be done in order for it to be a better fit for a portable system. Not the biggest fan of the full-tilt levels, but I can live with those considering how great I think the other ones are.
