That unit is way too far away though. By the time I get there, she gets surrounded and if I don't make it there quickly enough, she'll most likely die. Even poor Frederick has a hard time busting through the enemy forces. I'll have to put Vulenaries (?) on him next time I try. I kept forgetting to do that

Everytime i lurk neogaf, i get depressed at the power of wii u and how, once ps4 is announced, we will once again be playing games not up to the graphical snuff. Well, playing fire emblem always reminds me why i stick with nintendo gaming over other consoles. Fire emblem isnt the best looking game, heck its not even the best looking 3ds game by a long shot, but everything about the game is just complete and amazing. Nintendo really cant be outdone when they shine and they reinvigorates my love for nintendo gaming and makes me proud to own a 3ds and wii u.

I know i talk this game up a lot, but it really is amazing. It is by far the best in the series and i strongly believe it is the best tactics/straegy rpg every made (i am not counting counting games like civ on the pc because they are completely different).

I'm sure the PS4 will be a haven for multi-billion dollar strategy-RPGs that need to sell over 5 million copies in the first week to recoup their costs, don't worry.

@Guillaume hah! sarcasm at its finest! i cant wait for the next gen to start so we get nothing but shooters and action games and the occasionaly open world rpg that lacks any sort of personality and narrative.

Glad you're enjoying it so much. It's really growing on me as well, although I'm admittedly still early on.

The game is still reasonably challenging for me, probably because I haven't used Frederick a single time when my group got bigger, and I'm determined to level up shrimps like Donnel. In chapter 4, I squeaked by with a fledgeling crew of six until it was time to fight Marth, where I made the mistake of having Donnel in his range, and he skewered him like a shishkabob. Normally, I'd march onward, but I'm determined to make Donnel into a beast--I really like him.

The game reminds me of Paper Mario in the sense that you can plan how much damage each unit will do since it tells you. I think that's a great idea because it eliminates (most of) the guesswork and makes the player rely on good strategy--like Paper Mario.

I'm sort of finding the partnering system annoying at times... though of course very helpful in others. I put one of my units in the way to prevent a bunch of others from getting in. But since everyone was crammed together, units coming in to attack the one I used to block the path would all die due to multiple hits from that unit and those next to it. Fine and all... but since they died in one turn, it would allow the next one to come in too, taking even more HP out of my unit blocking the way. Which of course meant she ended up dying cause of it

@GameDadGrant ugh.... this is exactly why i started going doanload only once i got my XL, i made sure to get a 32 gig card at the same time. Nintendo was famous for releasing game son sundays and gamestop doesnt open until 11am on sundays and i wake up at 6am with nothing to do, so i switched to download only for all my games now. I am not switching to download only for my Wii U as well now that i ordered a 1TB hard drive.

Yeah, I'm "mostly" digital download for my games nowadays, too. I would be pretty close to "all digital" but none of my fighting games are available on the eShop! Which is ridiculous since Tekken 3D could be such an easy download...

Um, in any case, I'm even SADDER now because I got a call from Gamestop, and the guy that works there (I know him fairly well) tells me that the shipments for the 3DS Fire Emblem systems got delayed until FRIDAY! NNNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I guess this gives me some time to sink into that Ogre Battle Club. I guess. *sigh*

Oh man, I got so lucky with Virion earlier He was targetted by the enemy leader and the leader was gonna hit him twice with his ranged throwing axes, killing him on the second blow. The first shot hit... and then Virion made a counterattack for a CRITICAL SHOT, hitting him for 33 damage out of his 45. Then the leader's second shot missed! That was such a good turn cause that leader was pretty damn strong and taking out 33 HP in one shot helped out so much. Talk about luck. And Virion is just awesome

I am sadness. Checked 3 stores today with no luck. And holy crap, the download is huge! No room left on my SD card. Boo for me. I hope to get it soon.

Edit: Ran to local Target and nabbed their last copy. Hooray!

Loving it so far! Classic Fire Emblem gameplay with a gorgeous coat of paint. Pretty funny script, at times.

Sully seems a bit salty.

Am I the only one who got the bundle? Gah, I'm still waiting for it to ship.

Honestly I'd just keep playing and beat the game on normal. Play the game again on Hard and do things differently (can't the game be pretty different in regards to relationships on multiple playthroughs)?

@kriswright

Sully is awesome I'm trying to find a good match for her relationship wise... and I think I found my match. What is this, a dating simulator?

But damn, this game is so, so good. The relationships between characters adds so much... not to the combat but to the dialogue. It's great seeing characters warm up to each other and hearing what they have to say. Virion, Sully and Kellam always have great stuff to say. Lon'qu and Panne's conversations though... holy crap This could get hilarious. It'll be fun just to play through it again to try out different relationships and see how they pan out.

I did it!! I got Sully and Donnel (farmer) to get engaged!! Woot! I also got an item to change my created character to a Myrmidon. Yes, I am still playing on normal-classic and I'm loving the fact I can grind like crazy on this mode. I'm still determining who I will set each other up with in the future. I'm trying to find the perfect matches relationship-wise... I know it's silly I'm basing my tactic descicions around building relationships instead of winning, but I want to fully explore these options. I might put Frederick with Lissa... Chrome with Miriel. Hmmmmm choices..

I know for sure that Lon'qu and Panne will definitely be having babies. I will set that hookup today.

I'm through Chapter 2 with all of my units alive and well (though I had to move forward slowly in order not to get mowed down) and have a few supports up to C-level. Good game so far.

I'm thinking Lissa will end up marrying my unit since they're almost always side by side on the battlefield. Chrom and Sunia makes the most sense (even though I haven't acquired her yet, I'm assuming it happens soon). What to do with Sully though...I think I have an idea.

EDIT: My goodness, does anyone around here use the database? There's a bunch of us talking about it, but I'm the only one listed as an owner.

Am I just terrible or something? This game is kicking my butt to Tuesday ever since chapter 4. I'm trying these side-missions with other Risen on the map, and they're just brutal--full of lopsided enemy numbers (something like 16 to 8) made worse by the fact that they don't just sit there like in some missions--they actively charge and completely overwhelm me. I'd probably win if I was able to lose someone in the process, but they've struck down Chrom or Bun a few times, resulting in an instant lose.

Playing on Normal too. I've gotta rethink my strategy, or possibly actually start using Frederick as a wall.

@TriforceBun

Haven't tried those missions yet, but I would recommend huddling up and keeping your better defenders on the outside with your healers, archers, and mages on the inside. If they're charging you, don't advance. Let them come to you.
02/06/13, 16:54
@TriforceBun

Those random battles are really hard and I'm not sure if I'm meant to be able to do most of them. I did manage to do one yesterday due to a better map layout and being able to hold my ground better. But there's this other map that is full of pegasus knights and the immediately swarm me in one turn.

And Frederick is useful but he quickly outgrew his usefulness. I mean I still use him but he's just not the powerhouse he was at the beginning. All of my other characters are catching up though Still, an extra tank is an extra tank which is really needed to defend the long range units.

Also, PAIR UP. If you don't already that is. It's been useful in many situations for me when being swarmed in open areas. Not only does it protect the weaker unit but also beefs up the main one with extra stats. AND counter attacks can be incredibly deadly. I managed to counter attack 4 times in one turn yesterday

Started over on Normal for 2 reasons. One, I was just getting routed in Chapter 5 on Hard. I did eventually work out a strategy to finish the level, but damn, if it just climbs from there I'm not sure I have the right stuff. Yet.

Second, I realized there's a relationship system and I'd made the mistake of making a girl for my player character. Once I realized I was going to have to decide which dude to fall in love with, I retreated back to the beginning and started with a broseph. That'll be much more satisfying.

Right now, I think I'm going to try to marry either that nerd Miriel or that punk rocker chick Sully. Not sure if any of them are The One, yet. But I'm doing a lot of yoga and exploring my feelings and I'm sure I'll get a sign when the time is right.
02/06/13, 17:36
@kriswright

You restarted for that? Haha I'm more preoccupied with who Chrom will end up with than my own character. Chrom is hitting it off with Sully and I think I'll keep it that way. I'm not sure who I should choose for my character though... he hasn't had much combat with other girls. Did Nintendo work in same sex marriages in this? I barely use any girls!
