Hello, true believers! Welcome to Negative World's newest RPG-centric Club Hub, springing off the heels of the Fire Emblem Club. Way back when, Nintendo Power introduced a monthly walkthrough / in depth Role Play Game section (right around the beefiest SNES RPG era), but since they aren't around anymore to use it, Negative World will bring it out of the ashes, dust it off, and roll with it (two things of note: #1, this is not in reaction to Nintendo Force Magazine at all -- I know that because I thought of it in the shower this morning, so THERE; and #2, I just looked up "Epic Center RPG" on Yahoo, and there is apparently another RPG-based site that has that, ugh. I guess we're looking at a "Ghostbusters" / "Real Ghostbusters" thing now... Whatever..).

For anyone who grew playing SNES RPGs, and were a fan of them, they surely resonated to the point where they still hold office as some of your favorite games of your entire videogame life, systems, generations, and decades later. The NW Epic Center (run primarily by myself, with the aid of some special friends occasionally) will help to expose some of those games that didn't quite get the recognition they deserved, and also to relive some of the greatest games EVER as we play through them again -- together -- and open up a whole new dialogue on these lost treasures.

Next up..

Chrono Trigger is held by many (myself included) as The Greatest RPG of All Time, pun not intended. It is a benchmark title in the genre, and even after 20 years the game is discussed daily and held in high regard, even in the face of juiced-up, HD "masterpieces." Is simpler sometimes better? Sure, but we're not talking "Dragon Warrior" simple here; we're talking 16-bit perfection at its finest. I'm personally a bit worried about pursuing this game once more; it's been a long time since my last jog through it, and I'm afraid I might have the rosiest pair of glasses that any shot of nostalgia could ever produce. We find out later this month, for better or for worse. (C'mon, it's gonna be fine -- we're talking Chrono Trigger here!! THE BEST, JERRY, THE BEST!!)

Sunday, August 30th marks the start of Week 1 (if you prefer to start your own quest AFTER Sunday, like Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday, thats fine!). Golden Sun ran 6 Weeks. GameDadGrant will be our DUNGEON MASTER for this one, and we figure the playthrough to run about the same length. Less than two months. I'm told the total quest should last you between 20 and 30 hours.

See ya soon!!

Abandon the sword! Abort mission before it's too late!

@TriforceBun

But the dude doesn't get other weapons! And I've already spent SO MUCH TIME. Isn't it "ready" to drop?
10/17/13, 00:52
@Mr_Mustache

It's not a mandatory item, so you don't HAVE to get it. It increases Poo's offense by 30 and that's it.

Where are you grinding for them? On the catwalk that chris suggested? Because you can go back and forth and spawn 2 to 4 in one full pass.

@ludist210

I've been going on that yes, full left to right. Frustrated, I looked it up online and other people suggest the same area, too. I'm just getting hosed. It freakin' stinks. +30 Offense is awesome. I'm already knocking on Lv75 though. Or am I at 80? Who knows.

Poo doesn't need the sword. I have never gotten it and his attacks don't feel lacking after reaching a certain level. He typically gets massive offense stats each level to make up for not using weapons aside from that one, and even without it his attack is stronger than Jeff and Paula. Not only that, but Poo has a very nice pool of Psi to choose from, so he doesn't attack all that much anyway.

@Mop it up

He feels incomplete

@Mr_Mustache

What's your excuse for not finishing Okami though?
10/17/13, 03:14
@Mr_Mustache Yeah but you fell behind because of an optional thing. Your choice. You have to manage your time better. Etc.

I'm just kidding, of course. I don't really care where you are in the game.

@Shadowlink Ug, let's keep Okami out of this thread, OK?

This is the first time I ever got the Sword, or any of the 1/128 items. If I hadn't got it the way I did, I wouldn't have kept going hoping to get it. It's nice, but not really necessary.

@Shadowlink

My Wii broke, ass hat. Thanks.

@Zero

The "time spent" on this week has been 30:70 for "actual stuff" vs. "grinding for that DAMN SWORD." The game is clearly f'n me.

EDIT- *sigh*, I guess I'll go play this now. Night: Ruined.

I beat the game last night. I'll save thoughts for that when the Epic Center is wrapped up.

So uh, I guess I'm done with week 7.

@Mr_Mustache

Stop trying to get those things. You really don't need them. Stronger weapons come along anyways, and you're probably so overpowered at this point, that it doesn't matter. I never got the weapons for Jen or Jason.

@Zero

It's in the OP!

And I know for a fact you now have a working Wii and have since gone back to the game.

But hey, why should you let inconvenient facts like that stop you from insulting people?

Well I just finished the game. Just felt like finishing it up. Looking forward to hearing what you guys all think of it next week.
10/17/13, 14:49
@Mr_Mustache

Be sure to do Week 7's optional challenge too!

@chrisbg99

I'm looking forward to talking about the ending with all of you.
10/17/13, 15:24
I'm trying to grind for Star Pendants just because I've never gotten them before. I still haven't found one, but meh. I've played through EarthBound at least a dozen times, so...why not?

I think Ness is level 95 or 96, which is also a first for me. I may actually grind everyone up to level 99 just because I can. Woo!

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

Yes, I got it.

EDIT:

EDIT- And the game isn't OVER; you guys are being jerks for jerk sake.
You were a jerk to a lot of people during Backlaugust last year (specifically towards the end, and that turned a few people off to the idea this year because of it). Again, you can't have it both ways.

If we aren't going to stick to weekly goals (because some of us skip ahead and others get behind), why have them? Honest question.

Hey come on, there's no need for that. Let's be buddies here.

@ludist210
Have you completed Magicant? Wait until after that to get Ness to level 99!

Edited: 10/17/13, 16:36
@TriforceBun

Yeah, I did that before I grinded for Paula and Jeff's weapons for that reason. The stat boost almost gives Ness an unfair advantage, but I like said advantage.
10/17/13, 16:52
@ludist210

So does grinding to level 99! I feel like I was around level 70 when I beat the game.
