Hello, true believers! Welcome to Negative World's newest RPG-centric Club Hub, springing off the heels of the Fire Emblem Club. Way back when, Nintendo Power introduced a monthly walkthrough / in depth Role Play Game section (right around the beefiest SNES RPG era), but since they aren't around anymore to use it, Negative World will bring it out of the ashes, dust it off, and roll with it (two things of note: #1, this is not in reaction to Nintendo Force Magazine at all -- I know that because I thought of it in the shower this morning, so THERE; and #2, I just looked up "Epic Center RPG" on Yahoo, and there is apparently another RPG-based site that has that, ugh. I guess we're looking at a "Ghostbusters" / "Real Ghostbusters" thing now... Whatever..).

For anyone who grew playing SNES RPGs, and were a fan of them, they surely resonated to the point where they still hold office as some of your favorite games of your entire videogame life, systems, generations, and decades later. The NW Epic Center (run primarily by myself, with the aid of some special friends occasionally) will help to expose some of those games that didn't quite get the recognition they deserved, and also to relive some of the greatest games EVER as we play through them again -- together -- and open up a whole new dialogue on these lost treasures.

Next up..

Chrono Trigger is held by many (myself included) as The Greatest RPG of All Time, pun not intended. It is a benchmark title in the genre, and even after 20 years the game is discussed daily and held in high regard, even in the face of juiced-up, HD "masterpieces." Is simpler sometimes better? Sure, but we're not talking "Dragon Warrior" simple here; we're talking 16-bit perfection at its finest. I'm personally a bit worried about pursuing this game once more; it's been a long time since my last jog through it, and I'm afraid I might have the rosiest pair of glasses that any shot of nostalgia could ever produce. We find out later this month, for better or for worse. (C'mon, it's gonna be fine -- we're talking Chrono Trigger here!! THE BEST, JERRY, THE BEST!!)

Sunday, August 30th marks the start of Week 1 (if you prefer to start your own quest AFTER Sunday, like Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday, thats fine!). Golden Sun ran 6 Weeks. GameDadGrant will be our DUNGEON MASTER for this one, and we figure the playthrough to run about the same length. Less than two months. I'm told the total quest should last you between 20 and 30 hours.

See ya soon!!

@Mr_Mustache
It's hard for me to tell how much difference that would make. In week 5, I spent a lot of time while watching baseball mindlessly wandering back and forth in the Pink Cloud cave leveling up. My guys are all in the 80s now. Also, you might've missed it, but I'm done with week 6.

Welp, Ness is Lv70 now, no Sword yet... I think I was about 53 when I got here.
10/12/13, 07:36
I'm now up to 3 hours in the Factory on that same stretch to the right. I definitely won't complete this week on time, because I REFUSE to leave this spot after putting so much time in to find that GD thing. Maybe I'll find it on my NEXT fight? That would rock.
10/13/13, 00:27
This game is tough for completionists.
10/13/13, 00:41
@Mop it up

It hurts my heart region.
10/13/13, 00:46
Do not raise Ness to above level 90 or so. There's a late-game boost that requires you to be able to level up at least once to enjoy its effects, and if you're level 99 at that point, you miss out.

I got the sword off of the second Starman Super I fought. I guess I'm just lucky. What a terrible section of the game though. I was stuck in a fight for 10 minutes, legit, against two Starmen, a Starman Super, and the stupid robot that would always max out their HP. Not fun.

@TheOldManFromZelda

That is why it is best to just run from Atomic Robot. They are irritating things.

Next part up in a few minutes!

@chrisbg99

I usually Mirror them. Heal me for freeeee!

PS- I'll get the new part up tomorrow, sorry. I'm conkin' out here, winning Fortune Street has drained me.

Well folks we are down to our last two weeks. Having rescued Apple Kid and Dr. Andonuts you foiled whatever it was that Giygas' forces were attempting to do. Presumably you cured the Tenda of their shyness and can also move forward down the hole where the mysterious talking rock is. What could a rock have to say that is all that interetsing? Rock stuff most likely. What else will you find as you draw ever closer to completing the quest. Best to move ahead and find out.

EarthBound Epic Center

Week 8: The Lost World: EarthBound

Goal: Collect the Seventh and the Eight Song; Save in Magicant

Optional Challenge: Collect Jeff’s best weapon a 1/128 drop against Uncontrollable Spheres in Lumine Hall; Collect Paula’s 1/128 drop weapon in Lost Underworld against Chomposaurs; Collect 1/128 Star Pendants off of Major Psychic Psychos in Fire Spring Cave, collect 3 for an extra challenge

Convenient Grinding Location(s): Lumine Hall Cave/Fire Spring Cave

Quick Tip:
After you clear Fire Spring and collect the 8th song, you will be sent to Magicant. You won't get back till you clear this area so while it isn't a point of no return, you may want to clear any unwanted inventory on the others since Ness will do this section alone. Plus there is a pendant that you might want to buy for Ness, Paula and Jeff. You will be able to use Tracy here also so it isn't a big deal. Don't forget to bring the Franklin Badge with you. Also don't ask me how Ness can bring anything to or from Magicant since it is in his mind. I mean do you really care?
10/13/13, 10:40
Got a backpack-full of Brain Food Lunches, and even a Super Bomb from the Atomic Power Robots, but no super-secret 1/128-rare spoiler-weapon. Maybe on another play-through.

The only improvement I'd make to this game, if they were to say, do a complete rebuild of it, Zero-Mission-style, would be to allow the characters to ask the Condiment-vendors what would go well with a particular food. Then again, I guess that's what the Player's Guide is for, so that might just be asking for the player's guide content to be integrated into the game, really.
10/13/13, 13:46
@Dark Weres
Really? I love the game, but there are lots of improvements to be made if there were a modern remake. Removing the crazy inventory limits and allowing comparing stats of items before you buy would be the first two things on my list.

@TriforceBun
Thanks. That's good to know. I'm not planning to do anymore grinding so I doubt I'd get to 99 unless I get really lost, but if I get close I'll just start running or avoiding the ones that run from me.
10/13/13, 17:17
Also worth noting: you can come back to grind for everyone else's weapons this week before you finish the game (unlike the Starmen Supers which disappear after you clear Stonehenge).

@Mr_Mustache

Are you isolating the Starmen Supers? I took down more than half of them without even having to fight. Just lure them over to you (and get the Atomic Power Robot off the screen) and it should be an easy victory.
10/13/13, 17:36
I don't have the super weapons yet because I'm afraid of overpowering Ness too soon now, but I just finished this week's stuff in about an hour. Ness is level 91, so I just ran from everyone but bosses.
10/13/13, 20:17
@ludist210

Oh yes, complete isolation. I know what I'm doing out there. The game senses my hate.
10/13/13, 23:29
@DeputyVanHalen I'd have to disagree on that, I think the limited inventory is a part of the strategy of this game. There are a few things they could streamline (such as key items not using a slot, maybe condiments too or having them combine with the item before use), but it should remain limited.
10/14/13, 00:25
@Mop it up
I think I'd be ok with it too if key items, and preferably equipped items, didn't take up space. As it is though, it's easy to have close to 75% of your inventory taken up with key items and equipment. I'm not saying it should be unlimited, just that limit should be raised or managed much better.
10/14/13, 03:06
Well, I have song #7. I'm on my way to the 8th song. I'm ok with not getting the weapons for the others. Good Pro-Tips on what to bring to that one section, though.
10/14/13, 05:15
I got the Sword of Kings relatively quickly, but I haven't finished Week 6 yet. Soon, though! I wasted so much time thinking Ness was homesick, but it was just the stupid Casey bat. Since I left Stonehenge to call my mom anyway, I just teleported back and found another bat for him to use from a recent town.
