Hello, true believers! Welcome to Negative World's newest RPG-centric Club Hub, springing off the heels of the Fire Emblem Club. Way back when, Nintendo Power introduced a monthly walkthrough / in depth Role Play Game section (right around the beefiest SNES RPG era), but since they aren't around anymore to use it, Negative World will bring it out of the ashes, dust it off, and roll with it (two things of note: #1, this is not in reaction to Nintendo Force Magazine at all -- I know that because I thought of it in the shower this morning, so THERE; and #2, I just looked up "Epic Center RPG" on Yahoo, and there is apparently another RPG-based site that has that, ugh. I guess we're looking at a "Ghostbusters" / "Real Ghostbusters" thing now... Whatever..).

For anyone who grew playing SNES RPGs, and were a fan of them, they surely resonated to the point where they still hold office as some of your favorite games of your entire videogame life, systems, generations, and decades later. The NW Epic Center (run primarily by myself, with the aid of some special friends occasionally) will help to expose some of those games that didn't quite get the recognition they deserved, and also to relive some of the greatest games EVER as we play through them again -- together -- and open up a whole new dialogue on these lost treasures.

Next up..

Chrono Trigger is held by many (myself included) as The Greatest RPG of All Time, pun not intended. It is a benchmark title in the genre, and even after 20 years the game is discussed daily and held in high regard, even in the face of juiced-up, HD "masterpieces." Is simpler sometimes better? Sure, but we're not talking "Dragon Warrior" simple here; we're talking 16-bit perfection at its finest. I'm personally a bit worried about pursuing this game once more; it's been a long time since my last jog through it, and I'm afraid I might have the rosiest pair of glasses that any shot of nostalgia could ever produce. We find out later this month, for better or for worse. (C'mon, it's gonna be fine -- we're talking Chrono Trigger here!! THE BEST, JERRY, THE BEST!!)

Sunday, August 30th marks the start of Week 1 (if you prefer to start your own quest AFTER Sunday, like Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday, thats fine!). Golden Sun ran 6 Weeks. GameDadGrant will be our DUNGEON MASTER for this one, and we figure the playthrough to run about the same length. Less than two months. I'm told the total quest should last you between 20 and 30 hours.

See ya soon!!

Week two was meatier than expected, should be done with it tomorrow and on to week 3 stuff!

@Xbob42

You should waste less time with those idiots in that other thread. They have absolutely nothing worthwhile to say. Trust me.

Finished the four guild missions that were available last night. Found the dog in Krup when I went back. Finally caught the little bastard. Was hoping for a little challenge from the other two guild missions, but they were easy. After that I made it to Zelan and got my new party member then saved outside the temple I busted up on Dezolis.

Gonna try and get a little time in during lunch today.

@Koovaps

What exactly is the final goal? Is it completing the Air Castle?

I think I'll start on Week 3 late late tonight. Woo hoo!

Did the majority of you try to go 4/4 on Guild Quests before advancing? Not worth it?

@nate38
@VickiL

I got both of you up there for Week 2 completion. Did I miss anyone else?

I did the four guild quests, they're worth it. The fourth one yields good experience, so it's a good one to save on a bit of grinding.

@Mop it up

Since I only have 3 folks now, should I wait until my group grows a little more? To be clear, I did the Sandworm and I'm mid-Dog right now.
05/21/13, 02:49
@Mr_Mustache I did the quest with 3. It's a little tough, but manageable with the right strategy.
05/21/13, 03:26
I had no trouble doing the sidequests with 3 party members. IIRC money is your only reward anyway.

@gojira

Yes. Sorry about that.

I miss the world map music...

@Koovaps

Thanks, there's just such a big run-around at this part in the game I wasn't quite sure what was up. Anyway, I'm done with this week's goals. One boss fight I totally forgot about the non-magic skills for my magic users who were out of magic points. I somehow still managed to win though.

I'm starting to just kind of really not like this game. It's way too easy to end up underleveled and I don't have much patience for leveling up in games. As much as people say that is how all old school RPGs were, I used to get through most old school RPGs with minimal leveling up. This game I feel like I have to level up before I try to do anything.

Annoying.

@Zero

Hmm, I'm not doing any grinding at all and am having little trouble. I tend to walk all around every dungeon, so I get in plenty of fights, and that keeps me pretty well leveled. Also, early in the game I often chose to leave dungeons whenever someone died and got to fight more when I went back. I think Mustache mentioned he did the same. So I guess I've just been naturally grinding enough to not get too frustrated. Most bosses have been okay too, though I have had to give it a few tries for some of them. I can easily see getting ahead of yourself, though. The dungeons do ramp up difficulty at a pretty good clip.
05/21/13, 06:36
I wouldn't define having to leave dungeons and fight through them again as having little trouble. That sounds like lots of trouble to me!

I'm at level 10 at Zio's fortress in case anyone is wondering. The mini-boss? is like borderline impossible at this level.
05/21/13, 06:44
Anddddddddddddd the freaking power went out in the middle of leveling up. Luckily I save fairly frequently, but still, probably lost a good 15 minutes of work.

BAH.
05/21/13, 07:05
What the, now there is no quick way to get to week 2 for me to figure out what I'm supposed to do. Why not just have quick links to everything?! I'm not the only one still on week 2!

@Zero

C'mon, man!

What the.

No offense but the OP is kind of messy. Week 3 is at the top, then a few other games, then Phantasy Star IV week 1, and then text, and THEN the other weeks? Who would even think to go further down to check for other weeks?! Why aren't they just at the top where all of the weeks for games and stuff are?!
