Hello, true believers! Welcome to Negative World's newest RPG-centric Club Hub, springing off the heels of the Fire Emblem Club. Way back when, Nintendo Power introduced a monthly walkthrough / in depth Role Play Game section (right around the beefiest SNES RPG era), but since they aren't around anymore to use it, Negative World will bring it out of the ashes, dust it off, and roll with it (two things of note: #1, this is not in reaction to Nintendo Force Magazine at all -- I know that because I thought of it in the shower this morning, so THERE; and #2, I just looked up "Epic Center RPG" on Yahoo, and there is apparently another RPG-based site that has that, ugh. I guess we're looking at a "Ghostbusters" / "Real Ghostbusters" thing now... Whatever..).

For anyone who grew playing SNES RPGs, and were a fan of them, they surely resonated to the point where they still hold office as some of your favorite games of your entire videogame life, systems, generations, and decades later. The NW Epic Center (run primarily by myself, with the aid of some special friends occasionally) will help to expose some of those games that didn't quite get the recognition they deserved, and also to relive some of the greatest games EVER as we play through them again -- together -- and open up a whole new dialogue on these lost treasures.

Next up..

Chrono Trigger is held by many (myself included) as The Greatest RPG of All Time, pun not intended. It is a benchmark title in the genre, and even after 20 years the game is discussed daily and held in high regard, even in the face of juiced-up, HD "masterpieces." Is simpler sometimes better? Sure, but we're not talking "Dragon Warrior" simple here; we're talking 16-bit perfection at its finest. I'm personally a bit worried about pursuing this game once more; it's been a long time since my last jog through it, and I'm afraid I might have the rosiest pair of glasses that any shot of nostalgia could ever produce. We find out later this month, for better or for worse. (C'mon, it's gonna be fine -- we're talking Chrono Trigger here!! THE BEST, JERRY, THE BEST!!)

Sunday, August 30th marks the start of Week 1 (if you prefer to start your own quest AFTER Sunday, like Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday, thats fine!). Golden Sun ran 6 Weeks. GameDadGrant will be our DUNGEON MASTER for this one, and we figure the playthrough to run about the same length. Less than two months. I'm told the total quest should last you between 20 and 30 hours.

See ya soon!!

@Mr_Mustache

I don't know and I haven't come across a dog yet. I've only done the one hunter mission. I did do the earthquake mission though. However I forgot to go back to town to see if they said anything about it.

@Mr_Mustache I'm not sure what to do in your situation, it went a little differently for me. The dog wants an item, and I just so happened to already have said item in my inventory when I found the dog. So I have no idea where it would go if you didn't have the item. The lady in the dog owner's house gives you a clue about what item you need.

@Mr_Mustache yeah, I spent more time than I would have liked on that. All I'll say is that it can be in one of several places. I think it's totally random.
05/17/13, 05:42
@Mr_Mustache I dunno, got through the Bio Plant and Wreckage. I'm not bad at time management, I'm awesome at time management, which is why I knew last week that I should get ahead to prepare for this week, but SOMEONE talked me out of it.

@Koovaps

Alright, well, I thought something like that might happen, so I bought Shortcake (not the item?) in one of the towns, but when I went back, that pigdog had left. I've checked the cave(s), I've checked Tonoe. I checked the rest of Krup. I'm..about out of ideas. You can't see him on the world map, can you? He went "North," so that narrows it down...to Tonoe..which I've checked with a rubber glove. I also thought he might be at that shortcake bakery, which he wasn't.

@Zero

Well sure, I mean, why should you be expected to play along with everyone else?

Anyway, you can probably make some SERIOUS progress in 2 hours.

EDIT- And I finished the required parts of Week 2 last night. Had a pretty "uh, duhhhh" moment after getting SQUASHED by Zio the first time around.

@Mr_Mustache I literally do not have 2 hours until sunday, and then I'm already behind.

And I knew I wouldn't have much time this week.

THAT IS WHY I WAS GOING TO GET AHEAD. NOT EVERYONE CAN BUDGET 4-5 HOURS PER WEEK FOR A GAME EVERY SINGLE WEEK OF THEIR LIVES.
05/17/13, 18:07
@Zero

When do you eat dinner? What are you doing tonight?

You don't have an hour of free time a day? Time to re-examine whatcha got goin' on. Ask JKR for help!

I'd be all for slowing down the pace of the club and encouraging people to go at their own pace in addition to the weekly goals if they want. Some weeks I won't have the time to comfortably get through the club goals, like this week was a bit busy and I had to cram play time in where I could find it, at the expense of other things I would have preferred. I've still got two more dungeons to go and I'm a little burned out but will probably finish this week's goals tomorrow anyway.

And then other weeks I'm tripping free time and could conceivably finish the entire game. It's not like people going at different paces is going to kill the discussion. Even if I'd rushed through the game in the first week, I'd still check in the thread and chat it up with those just getting started.
05/17/13, 19:58
@Mr_Mustache Not this week I don't. This is a special week. Which I knew last week. Hence wanting to go ahead.

This isn't that confusing of a concept.
05/17/13, 20:10
@Zero
A little late for this week, but in the future you could play ahead and just forget to post about that part of the game until the appropriate time.
05/17/13, 21:06
Sure, but I think Mustache would use his Mustache powers and sense my cheating across the vast space time continuum, and rebuke me nonetheless.
05/17/13, 21:21
Just finished the last goal of week 2. I feel like I missed a lot of stuff in that last area since it seemed like every fork in the road I took was the one that led to the end instead of dead end with a treasure chest.
05/18/13, 00:00
@Zero

Its true. I know.

@DeputyVanHalen

Yesssss.

What do you think you missed?

Stuff I found in Nurvus: all kinds of crap for the Android chick who leaves us anyways. No worries, brah!
05/18/13, 04:16
@Mr_Mustache Check other towns then, I found him in Monsen.

As for your edited in comment, I actually had a similar experience. Rune had the Psycho-Wand equipped and I thought I just needed to have him attack Zio with it, but that didn't work. Before I had a chance for him to use it as an item, he got Black-Wave'd. And of course, no other character could use it since he had it equipped, and he was also the only one with a revive tech...

@DeputyVanHalenYeah, that place was pretty confusing, but there wasn't much of value in there, so don't worry.
05/18/13, 04:39
That's good to know that I didn't miss much then. I may try going back with the party I have now before moving on anyway since the battles in that dungeon are super easy and give good exp that would now only be split 3 ways instead of 5.
05/18/13, 05:37
Oh, also of note, I reached the inventory limit! Looks like you can hold only five pages of items, if anyone else hasn't found this out yet.
05/18/13, 05:42
@Mop it up
Yeah, I've hit it several times already. Probably because I almost never use the healing items. I should also probably just sell off the escapipes and telepipes I've picked up since I have magic for that. Or at least sell all but one just in case.
05/18/13, 05:48
Perhaps a bit late to be saying, but this is a relatively item-heavy game. Use your monomates, antidotes, and always have a telepipe and escapipe on you unless you're in the habit of retreating once your techs/skills reach about half.
05/18/13, 10:44
Have other people finished Week 2 that I haven't "given credit" for? Sorry if I missed it.

@Mop it up

Monsen?? Where the heck is that?? Is it AFTER Termi??
05/18/13, 18:44
I got killed by a worm. I'm no where near finishing Week 2.
