Hello, true believers! Welcome to Negative World's newest RPG-centric Club Hub, springing off the heels of the Fire Emblem Club. Way back when, Nintendo Power introduced a monthly walkthrough / in depth Role Play Game section (right around the beefiest SNES RPG era), but since they aren't around anymore to use it, Negative World will bring it out of the ashes, dust it off, and roll with it (two things of note: #1, this is not in reaction to Nintendo Force Magazine at all -- I know that because I thought of it in the shower this morning, so THERE; and #2, I just looked up "Epic Center RPG" on Yahoo, and there is apparently another RPG-based site that has that, ugh. I guess we're looking at a "Ghostbusters" / "Real Ghostbusters" thing now... Whatever..).

For anyone who grew playing SNES RPGs, and were a fan of them, they surely resonated to the point where they still hold office as some of your favorite games of your entire videogame life, systems, generations, and decades later. The NW Epic Center (run primarily by myself, with the aid of some special friends occasionally) will help to expose some of those games that didn't quite get the recognition they deserved, and also to relive some of the greatest games EVER as we play through them again -- together -- and open up a whole new dialogue on these lost treasures.

Next up..

Chrono Trigger is held by many (myself included) as The Greatest RPG of All Time, pun not intended. It is a benchmark title in the genre, and even after 20 years the game is discussed daily and held in high regard, even in the face of juiced-up, HD "masterpieces." Is simpler sometimes better? Sure, but we're not talking "Dragon Warrior" simple here; we're talking 16-bit perfection at its finest. I'm personally a bit worried about pursuing this game once more; it's been a long time since my last jog through it, and I'm afraid I might have the rosiest pair of glasses that any shot of nostalgia could ever produce. We find out later this month, for better or for worse. (C'mon, it's gonna be fine -- we're talking Chrono Trigger here!! THE BEST, JERRY, THE BEST!!)

Sunday, August 30th marks the start of Week 1 (if you prefer to start your own quest AFTER Sunday, like Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday, thats fine!). Golden Sun ran 6 Weeks. GameDadGrant will be our DUNGEON MASTER for this one, and we figure the playthrough to run about the same length. Less than two months. I'm told the total quest should last you between 20 and 30 hours.

See ya soon!!

@Dark Weres

Yeah, we always just used the Ice Crystal(?) attack for everything, never even really used the Acid deal on anything.

@Mr_Mustache

Oh man, I just went to look at thread. Have to say OMW was pretty much spot on with those criticisms. This game has some serious flaws that are absolutely horrible in the opening stages.

I don't think you realise just how much playing with real people as opposed to AI party members changes how this thing is played.
03/19/13, 00:33
@Shadowlink

Oh, it very well might change the game. That said, like Dark Weres said, once you get that Magic, you'll almost have an "advantage" in Boss Fights. Geez, I wish everyone could play with someone though.. Have Pokefreak come over! (It should be noted that when I'm Leveling Up my Magic, I am playing alone. I sometimes wander around for hours, so I do get a taste of it. Doesn't seem incredibly different for me, actually. And getting stuck on rocks or bushes or whatever, don't you guys just walk back towards them to jar them free? Ah well.)

--How are you and the Cubester doing? Are you guys nearing the end of Week 1? I know you were close, but not sure..

@Mr_Mustache

Died on the boss. Havent had a chance yet to go back and try DW's strat.

@Mr_Mustache
You do realise the distance between us two right? And I have school? Geez do you think I would just drop everything t... *taxi engine* *door slam*
03/19/13, 00:59
@Shadowlink

We got by just popping him a few times with it. I don't know if Nikki got a weapon hit on him at all, though I was charging up as much as I could and slashing his crotch as soon as he made it available.

@Pokefreak911

We've gone to greater lengths for less!
03/19/13, 01:04
@Mr_Mustache
School>Almost all i'm afraid.
And please explain.
03/19/13, 01:05
@Pokefreak911

While I don't know the exact distance you are from Timmy;

1. NW Meetup 2011: New York City
2. NW Meetup 2012: Montreal

Hours and hours of driving / riding for just a few days. Lots of money spent to get there, and while there.
Was it fun? Certainly!, but it cost a pretty penny.
03/19/13, 01:11
@Mr_Mustache
That is quite a distance
Yeah I would love to go visit Shadowlink but not viable at the moment i'm afraid. Trying to save for a new PC with the little money I have.
He could always visit me however, if he can handle the rest of us South Australians :P
Also we should have NW Meetup 2013 in Australia. That way Shadowlink and I can show you our wildlife :P

@Pokefreak911

Yes, Tim should come to you, once a week. And you guys can play Secret of Mana for 4 hours straight, and be done with it. It'll be GREAT FUN.

And I don't care to see Hoppy Joe.
03/19/13, 01:21
@Mr_Mustache
Once a week? I barely see half of my RL friends in a month (different schools, I am NOT boasting).
03/19/13, 01:24
@Pokefreak911@Mr_Mustache

Are you both insane? I have no desire to end up pickled in a barrel.

I may have (like all Australians) been trained from birth to handle giant spiders and psychotic kangaroos, but I draw the line at dealing with a city full of serial killers.

But seriously, cost. Airfares are ridiculous here. I love flying but its way too pricy.

If we had a proper meetup with a whole bunch of dudes then maybe. Just two of us (three if OniLink shows up) isn't really worth it.
03/19/13, 01:38
@Shadowlink

Have OniLink show up, too, and then you each can play as a person.

Or, you know, Tim can ask his brother who lives with him..and he'll probably like it because its, you know...Secret of Mana....
03/19/13, 01:39
@Shadowlink
We don't pickle people anymore, you just go straight in the barrel.

@Mr_Mustache

Apparently you don't pay attention in chat. Didn't Steve tell you that Josh is a TOTAL ASSHOLE?
03/19/13, 01:45
@Shadowlink

Perhaps the one thing missing from your relationship is Secret of Mana. You know, kinda like when you butter someone up with something? He might love it that his T.A. distinction disappears..

How old is he? Lemme talk to him.
03/19/13, 01:47
@Mr_Mustache

I actually did ask him the other week when I downloaded it. His response was 'meh'.

Josh is...not your kind of gamer.
03/19/13, 01:51
@Mr_Mustache
We need the guys behind Seiken Densetsu III to come up with a game like this for the Wii U. They can break the "player-tether" if they allow the W.U.G. user to explore on their own (and perhaps two more players via 3DSes)
If not the Seiken3 guys, then perhaps the Secret of Evermore guys.
03/19/13, 01:55
@Shadowlink

Keep on him! (coax him with a candy bar or something, and then TRAP HIM; I used a Toblerone for Nikki, and a bag of Reese's Pieces) Nikki seemed hesitant at first, but we breezed through yesterday and she didn't complain once. ALSO, I caught her tapping her foot to a new tune!

@Dark Weres

Yeah, I wonder if the SoE guys are around at all in any capacity. I know they didn't have the fanfare of the SoM dudes, but it was still a competent game.
03/19/13, 01:59
even better: perhaps ask the people responsible for "The Cave" if they'll make a SecretOfMana-like , since they've already made a 3-player Wii U game.
