I'm sure that everyone here has conducted GamePad range experiments of their own, particularly the 'play-from-bed' test. I can happily report that my bedroom reception, one floor up from the Wii U, is pretty much perfect! (Wii Chatters beware!) Now I just need more off-TV games... (also, I need to keep praying to Lord Iwata for free updated Wii U-native VC ports)
Have the rest of you had similarly good luck?
Also, how is your Wii hooked up right now? I've somehow juryrigged it to my old setup while keeping my Wii and 360 hooked up, but through component. :( No digital surround. Does anyone know if Wii U games even support Pro Logic? The games on the Wii channel still should, right? So confusing...
I'll probably get a new receiver soonish, though. I'm getting kind of tired of connecting everything through kludgey solutions.
Nah, I tried and it won't reach. Right when I get to the bedroom door, it cuts out. The Wii U is on the complete other side of the apartment, so that's why.
Haven't tried, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work. Our bedroom is on the second floor, and behind the living room where the Wii U is housed. I don't think the Wablet will work from there.
Also, my Wii is sitting on a shelf in the basement. I have no use for it anymore. It was loud and obnoxious because of a bad wheel bearing. It also needed a new Johnson Rod and some headlight fluid.
Mine doesn't make it to the bedroom or the restroom. I've no idea what they used to build the walls in my apartment; I'm guessing adamantium. It does make it to the dining room table and the kitchen. I've been so busy I've spent probably 5 times more time just streaming Netflix on the game pad while cooking, kneading dough, etc. than time I've spent actually playing games.
My Wii U is hooked up using the HDMI cable; my only other HDMI cable right now is an XBox 360 that I've mostly ignored. The TV has enough component hook-ups that I also have a very dusty PS2 (for my occasional Castlevania: SOTN needs) and two Wiis attached to it. There are enough cords back there to destroy a relationship, were one of the persons annoyed by cord tangle. Thankfully, we're both lazy enough to not care. I just use the TV's speakers. I don't think a big audio set up would work for us, since I stay up late playing and usually have to turn the volume down to 1 or 2 so I don't keep others awake. Kind of a waste to set up 5 speakers under those circumstances.
Weird how my walls don't allow GamePad signals but sound passes straight through them! Crappy old apartment.
I've tried to move around but I have to stay 30 ft or less from the console. If my line of sight to the console is obstructed by a wall you can forget about it. It mush be b/c this fortress is made out of lead.
Yep, I can play from my bedroom upstairs. It is great. I can't, however, play from my kitchen while I cook, which is just off the living room, but separated by a wall and plumbing and whatnot. I wonder if a 3rd party will develop a WiiU Gamepad range extender at some point. I'd buy it. But I suspect that Nintendo themselves will do as they did with the wiimote, and improve the hardware over time by improving the batter, extending the range, making the screen bigger, etc.
I can't play the Wii U in my bedroom nor the bathroom. I am, for the immedaite future going to be using the Wii U between the family room and Theater Room. I purchased an addition power supply from Nintendo($44 ouch) to accomidate this arrangement. The family room is a 2.2 speaker setup (mains and 2 subs) and in the Theater room is full on 7.1(4 sub setup), I have used the Wii U in both rooms so far and it does sound good in either configuration. Nano Assault Neo has some great bass.
Considering that practically everything I own is crammed into a single room... yes! In fact, I can play while watching my TV out of bed. Not that I eve really watch the TV when playing Wii U.
Nope. Nada. Niet. The Wii U is in our basement and the bedroom is up two floors from said console. I can SOMETIMES play in the living room one storey up from the console. Sometimes. WAH!
When I was talking w/ Abdooooo on Wii U Chat, I was trying to give him a tour. Stuff conked out right as I reached the "gameroom" area, and I could hear him say that we lost video. Weird...because I'm in that almost every night on MiiVerse, and I've played my last few Madden games from that room, too.
However, if I put my knees up, I can't. Maybe my body was blocking the signal? Hmmmmmm..
I haven't tried, but I doubt it. It's currently set up in the basement, and I've tried playing in the room directly above the Wii U, and the video got a little choppy. So I'm assuming if I go any further away than that, it'll only get worse.
I did play in bed when I had it hooked up in the living room, but I like having it hooked up to my 60" LED, which is in the basement.
