Nintendo Land Review (Nintendo Wii U) (9.1)  by

Twelve attractions. Up to Five Players! BILLIONS OF FUN MOMENTS!

The game is finally out and I've already taken it for a spin. My sister and I tried all the 2+ player attractions and so far I like Animal Crossing Sweet Day, Mario Chase, and Zelda Battle Mii the best.

This is going to be a hell of a game for Nintendo fans with a lot of fan service I suspect.

Anyone agree? What are your favorite attractions? Least favorites? High scores? Low scores?

Do tell! Do it here!

I stayed over at my cousin's house last night and we had a pretty nice session going with me, my two cousins, and my 65? year old uncle. This was actually only the second time I got to sit down with adults and play this game (the other time being the Chicago game party) and I got to try some stuff that I've never really tried before. My respect for this game has increased a ton.

For instance, co-op Zelda mode is actually pretty interesting from a gameplay perspective. I played two player with my one cousin a bunch and we traded off the roles back and forth. It feels like a true co-op game in a way few are, where you're both doing different things but you can't just ignore your partner and try to each survive on your own. I don't just mean because you share lives, but in the sense that the swordsman can't let people sneak past him or the archer will suffer with the close combat, and likewise the archer has to keep the swordsman from getting swarmed or getting hit by long range attacks. It's also TOUGH... although maybe it gets easier with more swordsmen? (Assuming that they all know that they are doing.) And when the remix version of the LTTP dark overworld theme came on, I just about died from happiness.

We also played some co-op Metroid. That was fun too although the arena feel made it seem a bit less exciting than the stage-based stuff in Zelda.

My uncle was playing single player Zelda and Pikmin for a bit. He seemed to be enjoying it.

And we played a ton of Mario Chase. Pretty much everyone loved this. Didn't get around to the other two competitive games.

So yeah... great session! I wasn't sure how well it was going to go over, but everyone was really getting into it and there is something for everyone, whether you're playing single player, co-op, or competitive. I wish that I had a chance to do this kind of thing more often though.

Soon, every great Wii U game will have mad the jump to Switch... except for this one.

And Game & Wario.

There was a lot of potential for Nintendo Land, a shame we'll probably never see a sequel or even enhanced version that could tap into it. There are still two other games not on Switch I'd place about this, though.

@Secret_Tunnel Do you unironically think Game & Wario is a great game? I mean, it isn't bad, buuuuuuuuuuuuut... I dunno.

@Mop it up

It's... a good game! I remember thinking some of the toys were hilarious, and I'm a sucker for concepts that are hard to port to new hardware.

@Secret_Tunnel Did you ever try Star Fox Guard? It's one of my faves on the Wii U since I don't think it would work as well without the GamePad, so maybe you'd enjoy it too.

I don't think I did! I only rented Star Fox Zero and played a couple levels of it.

But maybe I tried it and forgot. I didn't even remember a third of the games in Nintendo Land!

Game & Wario has its charms. It was kind of a multiplayer staple, for a while, with the Pictionary game, Fronks, and that Spy Party-esque game.

And I freakin' love NintendoLand. I just dug that one out recently for some multi.
