CHICAGO: Wii U post-launch party (+3DS gaming, of course)

WHO

Anand, me, probably my brother, and... YOU! And maybe other people too. I'm going to see who is interested.

WHAT

Anand and I have been talking, and I think our basic idea is to hang out and play some Wii U post-launch, whether or not anyone else shows up. But it'd be cooler if other people showed up too.

WHERE

At my place in Evergreen Park. PM for address / phone / etc. (and to let me know you are coming!)

WHEN

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1ST, 4 PM. Late arrivals are fine, I will be around all day. Hopefully by this point we will all be acclimated to the Wii U and ready for some multiplayer. And if you don't have one yet, well, this will be your chance to sit down and play one outside of a crappy demo stand!

HOW

Oh, come on...

MULTIPLAYER GAMES

Wii U: Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, Chasing Aurora, um... anyone have ZombiU?!!? (I do not.)
3DS: Mario Kart 7, Kid Icarus Uprising, Resident Evil Revelations, 4 Swords Adventures (Chicago style!!!)

Probably some Wii and DS and whatever else we have laying around as well. It's really up to all of us. If you want to play something, ask if I already have it, or just... bring it!

FOOD / SNACKS

There are plenty of places around here to get some food. We can also order a pizza or two or something. I will have some snacks.

THE END

BE THERE! Unlike our last attempt at a party, this is happening whether it is just Anand and I or not. Which means you better come, because being alone with Anand creeps me out!!!

Thread set to 99 just so I can easily link some friends to it.

Don't worry, there shall be more.

It's kind of funny how Nintendo has now changed the ideal amount of people at a videogame party from four to five. They never follow industry standards!

Fucking Nintendo!

Sort of. Although sometimes the GamePad stuff is kind of boring. I know you like greifing people in Mario, but I tried playing it with my nieces and nephews using the GamePad and it was a snoozefest.

...um, that might be the only example I have for when it can be boring. And it's actually more fun in Zelda and Pikmin, I think. Probably Metroid too. And possibly all 3 chase games. So actually it looks like it might be the funnest part in general, so I have no idea what I'm saying.

Moved my cousin's HDTV into my room. Supposedly it's a loan, but... I don't think he will be getting it back anytime soon.

We're good to go! HMM. I'm a tad worried about seating if more people come than I'm thinking will, we have extra chairs, but they are those hard wooden ones. And my room isn't that big. Ah well, we'll figure something out.

YOU GUYS ALL MISSED OUT, BEST PARTY EVER.

We forgot to take pictures though. Oops.

There were 5 of us (all from Negative World actually, though my brother and brother-in-law don't post here often) which is really the ideal number for Wii U.

Games played:

ZombiU (playing as the human seems tough!)
Nintendo Land (tons of Luigi's Ghost Mansion. Various games feel a bit unbalanced with 5 people, but for the most part the balance worked)
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (which has Wreck-It Ralph in it, oddly enough)
New Super Mario Bros. U (boost mode, coin battle, etc.)
Chasing Aurora (better than I expected, but still not worth $15 for how few modes it has)

We didn't even find time to get to 3DS or older systems.

@Zero

You know the rules. Pics or it didn't happen.

In which case did we really miss anything? Logically, no.

Glad you guys had fun!

No pics? Aww.....

We were too busy being terrible at Nintendoland for pictures. I had a really good time. I honestly haven't had an unbroken 5 hour session of gaming goodness in a really long time. Thank you so much for hosting, Zero!

Sounds like it's time to start planning the next one!

Yeah, it was good times! Lemme tell ya, you get some Arizona Iced Tea in Koovaps, and the man is just unstoppable. He's an animal.

We also had the first ever (?) NW Jam Session! Man, the sounds that were being produced in that room... you really just had to be there. Magical... magical.

Plus, I had candies that I hadn't had in probably twenty-five years. So many candies... soooo much closer to diabetes... Zero's diet seems to consist of only candy and salad. I guess that's kind of balanced, in a way...

Best game of the night: hmm... now that I think back on it, Chasing Aurora was actually pretty hilarious.

Worst game of the night: Nintendo Land competitive Pikmin. What. The. Fuck.

Out of consideration for the fellow guests, I tried to keep my griefing to a bare minimum. (So, only, like, 40% of the time.) Oh, plus I almost died on the way home, because I was so sleepy!

Sorry about the lack of pics, but it's not like there were girls there. Interpret that as you will.

Chasing Aurora was a bit more fun than I expected, but the thing about a game like that is... I'm too lazy to specifically go into the game just to play it for 20 or 30 minutes or whatever before the few modes get old for everyone playing. If it were part of some bigger collection it would work better for me.

I actually had this idea once that was like... your console has some kind of built-into-the-firmware way that software can "share" their multiplayer modes (within a specific format) to be used for one uber multiplayer mode that goes across multiple games. That's probably super not feasible codewise, but it's still an awesome idea.

It'd work for some single player stuff too I suppose, challenge modes and the likes.

@Zero
I always thought that Nintendo should just release a disc/cart of their classic multiplayer modes with online play. Mario Kart 64 Battle, Four Swords, Pac-Man Vs., Mario Bros. Battle... all of the GBA modes that never got played...

Anyway, I guess we could've manually done some sort of decathalon. But that would require preparation. And teamwork. Speaking of which, the Attraction Train in Nintendo Land is SO WEIRD.

Also, Zero loooooves Pachinko. And his brother is an Animal Crossing/Luigi's Ghost Mansion monster.

That's the thing, no one is ever going to do anything manually, because everyone is lazy. You need to work this jazz into the system functionality!

Alright, so Rochester Wii U post-launch party only needs 5 people and pictures to top this?

On it.
