Doc Louis is kicking my ass!
I'm not sure why, but I finally started playing this gamelet the other day. God damn, it certainly is challenging.
Fun, but a bit frustrating. I was about to kick a hole in my TV, so I stopped. How have you gentlemen fared against the good Doctor? (And do you use motion controls, as well?)
Motion controls? Ouch. Can't even imagine playing Punch-Out with motion controls. You have to have your timing down to the millisecond to succeed in that game.
Anyway I loved it as a Club Nintendo prize, but it really should have been a free, available-to-everyone demo for the game. And Doc is actually pretty tough in the last fight. Took me several tries to figure him out.
@Mop it up I never even thought about it, but it's kind of crazy that it was never offered for download again. Although that does make it a much more rewarding Platinum reward.
@nate38 Well, I should clarify that I meant motion controls for the punching. I still dodge and block with the stick and buttons. That's the part that really requires precise timing.
I haven't tried the Balance Board dodging yet. Everyone seemed pretty down on it. Still curious, though.
Doc Louis is ridiculously easy, at least for Punch-Out standards. The final fight is the hardest but still super easy - his animations are slow and he tells you what you need to do most of the time to avoid him ("Duck this one", "Keep em up", "Quick feet!"). The chocolate bar that refills his health, you gotta knock that out his hands.
I think your problem is you're playing the game wrong. Gotta go with NES style, man.
Yeah when he shows it off, you gotta high punch it with the proper hand, left or right depending on where the bar is. You get a split second. I also recommend you do it because something funny happens
I've yet to play a Punch-Out game, but I was kind of envious of Platinum members that year. I only made it to Gold, since Nintendo stupidly only lets first-party games give one coins.
It was the same with Soda Popinkski in the Wii version...if he took a sip, his health went up. Of course if you knock it out of his hands, he gets enraged.
Yeah, try it NES-style. It's much easier to play that way.
Really? Hmm. I got stuck on some guys, but after I got past 'em once, I could do it again MUCH quicker. What hangs you up? (This might be more appropriate for the Punch-Out!! Wii thread..)
Yeah, that's the beauty of the game. Once you learn the patterns it's a cakewalk. But learning them enough to be able to beat the guys is no easy task.
Did you play Title Defense? That's the real challenge, the main game is easy.
Yep! I've gone through a few times since, my record gets better every time. I think I can get up to Soda Popinski Title Defense without going down now. Upon losing, I am discouraged, and I turn it off and wait a few months, haha.
Haha, why thank you. I don't think I'm THE BEST or anything like that though. I definitely can't do the Challenge things.
Sure you can. They're not that much tougher than the regular game. And most of them are more about experimentation and discovery than "WIN EVERY FIGHT WITHOUT GETTING HIT ONCE" or ridiculous crap like that. You learn some pretty amazing strategies/exploits going through those challenges...
