Just thought this title needed an official thread.
Yesterday, while browsing the interwebs at work, I found a hands-on of the game that mentioned something that I had not heard of anywhere else. Unfortunately, I don't remember where it was, but here's the gist...
Pikmin 3 now has an evade move! From Nintendojo "Handy, then, that our new lead character has a nifty dodge ability that sees both him and his band of Pikmin roll to the side in perfect unison whenever danger’s about to rear its ugly head. It took a while to master, especially since there seems to be a small amount of recovery time before you can initiate another one, but it brought a welcome sense of drama to the fights, as well as a greater feeling of control over your large army."
Let's give this launch window game some love! ERRR.....Releases August 4th!
Well, I tried to post the trailer. Thanks Renjaku!
Now lets take a look at Gamexplain of the newest video
I got mine in the mail this morning from Gamefly. Popped over the website, hit the Keep It button, and with the $5 coupon they give out every few months the brand new Pikmin 3 cost me $39.
Just beat it 100% last night, and it was such a wonderful experience. I'm going to begin a second playthrough today.
Spoiler free thoughts: The gameplay is a lot more fluid. Small changes have been made to make the flow of the game smoother (idle captains picking nearby Pikmin sprouts, the "go here" function, pikmin entering and exiting the onion quicker). And all of my complaints are very minor. The focus has been changed a bit to put more of an emphasis on navigating the terrain and making that process quicker by building bridges and breaking special walls- as opposed to defeating enemies and trying to survive in Pikmin 1, or clearing increasingly challenging dungeons in Pikmin 2- but that change isn't huge and it still feels very much like a Pikmin game. The rock Pikmin are fantatasic and the flying ones add a fun new twist to how you think about the levels. Overall, it's a great game. Although the changes made to the gameplay weren't huge, the series was not in need of any big changes. The core of Pikmin is as strong as ever.
And the best moment is the second to last boss. All of it.
I am finally reaping the rewards of pre-ordering all that stuff from Futureshop. Well, almost. I got a slip in the mail instead of the game. THEY DIN'T EVEN KNOCK ON THE DOOR. Sigh, I was right in the living room...
@-JKR-@Kal-El814 Please keep in mind that I've been playing Pikmin since 2001, have completed the first two games multiple times, and spent most of Sunday playing. Altogether, it took me 11 hours, but I imagine it'd take someone less experienced with Pikmin at least 17.
This is a great game--it's super polished, looks great, and is quite well-designed! However, I think my favorite part might actually be Mission Mode! It's really addictive trying to collect all the treasures at once, and I think I'd be happy to get some Pik3 DLC that incorporates more of these levels.
One thing concerns me though--it's pretty cumbersome to use the GamePad and Wiimote/Nunchuk. I still utilize the "Go Here" feature which is super-useful, but it's kind of a pain to look down and mess with the GamePad while playing. I hope most future Wii U games forego the 'Mote and just focus on GamePad use.
Eh, there's nothing wrong with beating a game really quickly these days... not like there's a shortage of stuff to play or replay. Even the Wii U is finally going to be getting a steady stream of quality stuff over the next few months.
I'm officially on my weekend, so we'll see how much of a dent I can make in Pikmin 3. I'm worried about the exact opposite issue... that I'll never finish it at all. Heh.
Played with sis today up to first boss. Everything is great but why didn't anyone report pikmin 3 is 30fps?? Would have liked to get over my dismay about that earlier.
