Reviews:
Just thought this title needed an official thread. Yesterday, while browsing the interwebs at work, I found a hands-on of the game that mentioned something that I had not heard of anywhere else. Unfortunately, I don't remember where it was, but here's the gist... Pikmin 3 now has an evade move! From Nintendojo "Handy, then, that our new lead character has a nifty dodge ability that sees both him and his band of Pikmin roll to the side in perfect unison whenever danger’s about to rear its ugly head. It took a while to master, especially since there seems to be a small amount of recovery time before you can initiate another one, but it brought a welcome sense of drama to the fights, as well as a greater feeling of control over your large army." Let's give this launch window game some love! ERRR..... Releases August 4th! Well, I tried to post the trailer. Thanks Renjaku! Now lets take a look at Gamexplain of the newest video URL to share (right click and copy)

Got this as my free game last month, and whooooooooa it's so good! I hadn't played a Pikmin game since the first one on GameCube (which I enjoyed a fair bit), so there was a metric crap ton of stuff that was new to me in this one, and every single little thing was awesome. Almost feel ashamed for not having bought this game before, but I might actually buy the retail box at some point just for the hell of it. Right now I'm at what I presume to be the end of the game ( Formidable Oak, getting chased around by that blob), but I don't feel like I'm ready for this to end just yet, so I'll be trying to get every single piece of fruit before I beat it. Well, after I'm finished with Mission Mode I will. Thought I'd just start up one of the missions to see what it's all like, and now I'm absolutely hooked. How are the DLC packs? I'm far from done with what's already in the game, but I already know I'll be wanting more when this is over. EDIT: Also, that cast! They shot high up on my favourite-videogame-characters list straight away. Especially Brittany and her awesome snarkiness. |

@DrFinkelsteinI compiled this info from the Pikmin wiki. Pikmin 3 2.0 update levels (free)Fortress of Festivity (Collect Treasure!/Battle Enemies!) Tropical Forest Remix (Collect Treasure!) Tropical Wilds Remix (Battle Enemies!) Mission Mode: Collect Treasure! Levels 7-10 ($1.99)Silver Lake Remix Thirsty Desert Remix Twilight Hollow Remix Shaded Garden Remix All of the above are re-arranged versions of pre-existing environments. Mission Mode: Battle Enemies! Levels 7-10 ($1.99)Tropical Wilds Remix Garden of Hope Remix Distant Tundra Remix Twilight River Remix Formidable Oak Remix All of the above are re-arranged versions of pre-existing environments. All-new Mission Stages 12-15 ($4.99)The Rustyard (construction site type level full of electrical wiring and rusty metal) Beastly Cavern (sidescrolling underground level similar to cave environments from Pikmin 2) Forgotten Cove (a beach themed level apparently based on Forest Navel from the original Pikmin) Clockwork Chasm (a factory level with conveyor belts and buttons controlling them) All of these levels are brand new, and can be played in both of the main mission modes. Also worth noting is that some of these levels allow you to play as Olimar and Louie. Olimar will be available at the start of the level, whereas Louie needs to be rescued from a specific enemy and brought back safely to base in order to become available for the rest of the level. Nintendo's offical DCL trailer. |

So after playing on and off for a bit, I've collected all the fruit and beat the game again to see how the ending changed. I was hoping there'd be an extra scene or something, but nope, just different narration at the end. Oh well, it's a fun game so it doesn't really matter.
I also feel like I'm missing something here, probably because I didn't play Pikmin 2, though it also seems like it may have been hinting at a sequel? Not really sure what, if anything, the end was supposed to mean.
I hope there are more games to come because it's nice to have more than just the Big 3 from Nintendo (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon). Since I got this game for free then I'll probably spend the $9 for the DLC to support this game. I kind of wish I bought this and got Mario Kart VIII for free, if that makes sense.
I've played the missions as well and they're certainly where the game shines in terms of strategy. I've gotten mostly bronzes, a couple silver and a gold, so figuring out how to earn golds on all of them doesn't seem so easy. Well, I only played one of the boss missions since they didn't really seem different from the story mode, so I didn't bother. I think I'm finished with the game for now though, want to move on to other games, but I'm sure I'll be back at some point to try for golds and buy/play the DLC. I also hope to try out the co-op but not sure if that'll happen. I know I won't be trying out the bingo mode though since it's competitive and I'm not into that. |
