Pikmin 3 Review (Nintendo Wii U) (9.8)  by
Just thought this title needed an official thread.

Yesterday, while browsing the interwebs at work, I found a hands-on of the game that mentioned something that I had not heard of anywhere else. Unfortunately, I don't remember where it was, but here's the gist...

Pikmin 3 now has an evade move! From Nintendojo "Handy, then, that our new lead character has a nifty dodge ability that sees both him and his band of Pikmin roll to the side in perfect unison whenever danger’s about to rear its ugly head. It took a while to master, especially since there seems to be a small amount of recovery time before you can initiate another one, but it brought a welcome sense of drama to the fights, as well as a greater feeling of control over your large army."

Let's give this launch window game some love! ERRR..... Releases August 4th!

Well, I tried to post the trailer. Thanks Renjaku!

Now lets take a look at Gamexplain of the newest video

@Guillaume

I did, and hated it. Hated the first one, too. Third time's the charm!

The Pikmin 3 DLC is already out! I haven't gotten around to it yet because I was busy playing the new free Challenge Mode stage! One small disappointment is that it's a remix of the first Challenge stage, but it's still quite fun.

@Secret_Tunnel

Haha, nice.

Got the DLC last night before even playing the ODC. I'm sure the Challenge modes are fun though. Perhaps Friday!

@Mr_Mustache

Play them! I enjoy them as much as the main game. I'm thrilled to be able to dive into some new challenges later tonight!

I didn't like challenge mode nearly as much as the story mode or multiplayer. That being said, the DLC is pretty neat. There are some creative things done within the limits of the old maps that force you to mix up your play style.

Here's where the digitalness of DLC hurts. I really like playing the challenge missions with my niece, but I wouldn't be able to bring them over to play on her Wii U.

@TriforceBun

I still wanna finish the main game! Challenges and stuff is like dessert!

Finally beat the story mode last night, and gathered 59/65 fruits. Not bad, and I don't really feel a desire to get the rest.

Very strange final stage/boss. The whole running away from the blob was quite the excercise in multi-tasking. Took a couple of days and many Pikmin to finally get a good strategy down. Once I did though, it was smooth sailing to the boss fight, which, was kind of a let down and pretty easy. It felt a little disjointed. Like, where did the being come from? Why did it want Olimar? Was it even interested in the fruits? I demand answers! I suppose if they make Pikmin 4, they would have to explore on that rather than leave it hanging. It would definitely make me play the next game! Overall, I enjoyed my experience. This is the first Pikmin game that I finished. I may try the challenges, and I definitely want to play some more Bingo Battle! I'm going to score the game an 8.5. I feel it was the right length, but the weird ending kind threw me off. Graphics were gorgeous. Controls were tight. Fun battle mode.

I finally platinumed the first DLC stage. While I felt a sense of accomplishment, the dozens of attempts required, and the terribly low score, only highlight how mediocre I am at this stuff. Oh well, it was fun anyway!

It's like 1.99. Spoil her a little.

I wonder how much I have left.. I beat that underground molehill making trout guy to get the cell phone, and now I'm on the next area after a few days of moving stuff around, just got flying pikmin. How many more days? 20?

@Mr_Mustache

Well, depends on how anal you want to be getting all the fruits. If you're more interested in accomplishing the story objectives, 10 days may be doable. But if you were like me, and wanted to make sure your juice was well stocked, 20 sounds about right. Maybe sooner. I think I finished the game in 33 days (35? 38? I can't remember. But I know it was in the 30's.)

Finally finished this - I collected all the fruit and it really was a lovely game.
That end section was nerve-wracking up until I understood a straightforward technique of dealing with it.
Loved the end where you can see how stacked up against others who have finished the game. Evidently I like to take my time.

@Mr_Mustache

20 sounds like a lot. The game isn't particularly long so I'd say you're maybe halfway through, depending on what you aim for.

Hopped on and got the DLC last night! Yeahhhhh.

Still gotta finish the main game, haha.

I love this game, might be my favorite Pikmin yet. These DLC are so awesome, I want more! Give me more bosses to battle, maybe from previous games.

@Secret_Tunnel I enjoyed this a little too much, haha.

@TheOldManFromZelda I agree, very strange. I'm happy you completed it!

@Mr_Mustache I'd hold off on playing Mission Mode until you finish the main game, there's some minor "spoilers" with some enemies.

@Marsh

Yeah, I think i'll do that. I had no excuse to NOT buy it right now though. I think I have 26 bucks in my jar and nothing to spend it on. I don't think I'm doing the Season Pass on Batman, and that's really the only thing I'd spend it on (not buying any Wii U games digitally, and I don't re-buy cartridges in VC form). And a buck 99? Come on, hard to refuse.

EDIT- For the record, I'd rather EARN those Quests through gameplay: OLD SCHOOL.

I've held off on the DLC so far (besides the free one ) but the new DLC they've announced, now THAT'S what I'm talking about! Completely new levels and play as Olimar and Louie, yeah baby!
11/16/13, 18:13
How much is ALL of the DLC in total? I'm quite tempted but I might wait till my girlfriend and I move in together, when I'll have a dedicated gaming partner around to play it all with.
