I've been enjoying this game lately as a means of introducing my wife to the AC series. I loved the GameCube version; it came at a perfect time in my life when I had moved out of my parents' place after college and had a place of my own (alone) for the first time (an amazing parallel to the 'story' in the game of having your own place and meeting new friends). It was very comforting, to say the least. I later went on to the DS version at one point, but the cart was lost/ stolen and I never got back into to it.
So, regarding this Wii version: On the one hand, it's disappointing to see how little the game has evolved from the previous versions. I also visited the city; it seems cool but I think I'll enjoy the city more once I start making more cash.
On the other hand, considering I haven't played an Animal Crossing game in years, it's been a lot of fun just 'playing' something so relaxing and having my own little world, especially now that I can share it with someone else. The Wii pointer really does make stuff a lot easier/ more fun, like drawing your own designs or typing on the keyboard.
Our town (Suntown) is still quite young (we don't even have an axe yet to start cleaning up the some of the large clusters of non-fruit-bearing trees). Based on the database, quite a few of you own the game (25 or so); we would like to have you come visit us one day (and bring your fruit too! We only have oranges at the moment.). I still haven't upgraded my tiny, basic, house yet, but May did (ie she's been playing more than me).

Thanks @Snorlax I really like the layout of my town too. I like that my house is on an island. I'm sure I'll grab the 3DS version. Probably the download version. The perfect game to have with you at all times.
@roykoopa64 Hope you enjoy the Master Sword, Tri Force and Arwing. No home should be without them
I wish it was known back when this game was released how flawed the grass erosion was. No one new how long it would take (and how many flowers) to re-grow grass. I like the theory, heavily traveled areas form trails, but the execution was terrible. The worst part is the grass doesn't grow if you don't start play the game. So even though this game is tied to the clock and calender, you can go years w/out playing, and when you load up the game, only 1 day of grass regeneration will appear. I remember people on the ign boards were sending complaint letters to Nintendo saying the released a broken game, and Nintendo responded it was a game feature. I've visited towns that literally had no grass, just dirt. I've also visited towns with signs saying "Stay on paths" and "No Running".
It was nice to meet some new people after a while. Let me know if you folks would like some assistance planting fruit trees or picking fruit. I've gotten pretty efficient at the fruit picking, I'll make you a fortune in no time!
I won't be getting the 3DS game, this is the type of game I can't play on a handheld. I'll be waiting for the inevitable Wii U version.
