Turtle. Power.

TMNT was frustrating
TMNT II The Arcade Game was awesome
TMNT III was ok..just not memorable
TMNT IV: “PIZZA TIME” “LETS KICK SHELL!”

TMNT IV: Turtles in Time is arguably one of, if not the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game out there. It’s also one of the best 2 player SNES games ever made, most people still have fresh memories of this game, - and it’s 20 years old.

One of my favourite Stages - Watch for the cannon balls!

This game has wonderful graphics (choose comic or Animation style!)
Fun gameplay (Time Travel - yay!)
Ass kicking combos (Shall I do a flying kick - or just punch him in the stomach and flip him towards the screen?
Wonderful, spot on, customizable controls which, to me, makes this game a classic.
Oh...and great music:

If you liked Ninja Turtles, this game just screamed of fan service. Baxter? Check. Krang? Check. Rocksteady/Bebop? Double Check. And don’t forget those pesky Roadkill Rodneys and of course.. Slash. I still hate that guy.

It’s a short game, designed to be beaten in about 30-40 minutes...but it’s one of those games that you can keep playing over and over. Now it’s on the 360 (although not really good) but it is sadly not on the VC so I I hope it makes it over some day... If you can play it on ROM or on your SNES if you still have one, give it a whirl. You won’t be disappointed.

My favorite of the classic beat-um ups. The Genesis one is also pretty good.

I love this game. I recently played through it on my SNES this week! I also played the Arcade version on my MAME cabinet. I have to say, graphics aside, the SNES version is my favourite. More levels + Rocksteady and Bebop/Slash is better than less levels and Glue Guy thingy.

Again, I love this game!

This is the GREATEST Turtles game there is, and ever will be. It's so freakin' fun, paced really well, and the goofy time travel mechanic gives the developers lots of opportunity to go wild with the stage themes. I even started experimenting with the different turtles recently (I usually just go with Don) and they're actually balanced quite nicely. Raph and Mike are better than I expected them to be.

The 360/PS3 remake was actually delisted about a year ago, as Ubisoft no longer owns the TMNT license. I purchased it shortly before it was delisted (along with the first arcade TMNT), and it really is pretty lackluster. It's not a bad game by any means, but the fact it's based on the arcade game is disappointing, as the Technodrome stage in the Super NES was by far my favorite stage in the game. Also the new soundtrack they recorded is really, really mediocre. It completely saps the fun and energy out of the game.

The Super NES game is one of my favorite beat-em-ups ever, along with Streets of Rage on the Genesis. It has an incredible high-energy soundtrack and great sound design in general. There's a huge "oomph" to every single hit you make, and the game never lets up in intensity.

EDIT: Also, I was a huge fan of the 1987 cartoon as a kid, so I loved seeing all of these references to it in-game. I never did see the episode with Slash however, so I still don't know what his deal was. He's by far the most annoying boss to fight though.

heehee... just looking at the pics in this thread made me smile. :)

I think I've only ever played the first two (rental, never finished), but now I wonder if it's VC'able.

Probably doesn't help that I used to love the cartoon too!

The SNES version is best beat-em up I have ever played. It was a real shame how the HD remake turned out.

@X-pert74

Slash was Bebop and Rocksteady's pet snapping turtle (I think) who they mutated for some reason and ended up being really vicious, physically stronger than any of the TMNT and really dumb. The only way to subdue him was with his "binky" which was a plastic palm tree in his bowl. If I remember at one point he became super-intelligent as well but that only lasts an episode.

And yeah, hard as nails boss.

@heliumsky

Probably not. The first turtles game for the NES was on it for a little while but was pulled at some point. Probably something to do with Nickelodeon getting the rights to the show.

Turtles 1 forever!

Nah, TMNT IV is awesome. Mustache and I have played through it a couple times for fun. Almost as much as we've played through Bubble Bobble...

Sadly, it just can't compare to Tournament Fighters...

Wait... did you just say The Manhattan Project was merely "ok"? I loved that game, probably even more than Turtles in Time, which is indeed awesome.

Respect.

Believe it or not, I wasn't even aware of Turtles in Time until a couple of years ago. Don't know how that happened since I was such a fan of the turtles and the original arcade. Probably a Sega thing.

Great game.

YEEAAAAHHHH!!!!! Turtles In Time!

..... so yeah. My avatar. Slash. He'll wreck your face with his berserker rage.

As far as the cartoon goes, yes. Slash was Bebop and Rocksteady's pet turtle. They mutated him because they were tired of being given shit jobs by the Shredder and wanted someone that they could order around to do the crap that they didn't want to do. They used his binky to make him do the jobs, and then in a fight over who should control him at the time, they lost it. Slash went nuts and started wrecking the Technodrome, so they opened up a portal to earth and told him his binky was there. Upon reaching earth, he gets into trouble by wrecking more stuff, and the Turtles tried.... tried to subdue him. Eventually they got him on a rocket and shot his ass off into space.

A long time later, he came back. Superintelligent. He crash landed on a planet where intelligent beings took pity on him for his stupidity, so they made him smart. He came back with the plan to turn the entire human race into turtles.

In the video games, his first appearance was Turtles 3, where you fight him on a bridge I believe. And then yes, Turtles in Time, where he kicks ass... and keeps kicking ass. Gonna try to make a costume of Slash for next year's DragonCon. Hope I succeed.

Oh... and I'm sorry I couldn't ward you from the XBLA remake in time, X-pert. It..... no... it SUUUUUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Horribly. For all you others who had given it any consideration. Don't. Just play the SNES version, and be happy for knowing you played the definitive version.

Slash might as well be the final boss. On hard mode I think I typically burn more lives on him than Super Shredder.

@Cryojin I knew the remake wouldn't be good going into it; I bought it because it was going to be delisted, and I wanted to play it for the sake of being able to know firsthand what was wrong with it. It was on sale for half off, so I don't think I came out too badly in the end

I just completed another playthrough of this gem. Had maybe my best game ever. Scored 1245 on hard with no continues in 27:39. Slash was still a pain but I managed to beat him without burning through too many lives.

I don't understand all the hate for the HD remake of this game. It doesn't look amazing, but the game plays fine. My real problem with the game is that it's a remake of the arcade version and not the SNES one. It sounds weird to say, but they fixed the story a bit and the bosses were better placed. Maybe that's just nostalgia talking, but Bebop and Rocksteady are awesome on that ship.

@Smerd

come on... TMNT 3 was AWESOME. You had Manhattan in the sky! They're all great except for the original. Well the music is good in that one.

I never understood why Shredder didn't stay super shredder. Anyways TMNT3 has one of the best songs ever in the whole series

I think TMNT 3 was a better game than 2, but 2 is just so nostalgic for me due to its' arcade origins.
