Yea, but there is soon to be 4 of them and since Nov 2009, three of them have been released, once NSMBU is introduced here in about 3 months. I can understand how people are becoming sick of them. Sure, I stick by Nintendo releasing the DS version and I guess the Wii version was alright to release since not everyone owns a handheld(like myself..I have never played the DS version of NSMB). But really, that is where Nintendo should have ended the series. Those games, esp the DS was a homage to great side scrolling series from Nintendo's beginnings.

Now, its just a money grubbing thing. After this year, I think Mario should be laid to rest until the next generation of consoles, or at least wait 5 years.

If people aren't happy with these games because they're getting sick of them, then just simply don't play. By the time another Mario releases without the NSMB moniker, it'll be perfect timing since these Mario games are the reason people are complaining games are coming out too quickly anyway.

I played this game for a long time last night and I really like it. Sure it's just more of the same, but it's still really fun, and I love the tanuki suit and the gold mario. I'm a little disappointed that they dialed back the 3-D so much for this game, it seems almost like they're apologizing for 3-D or something, or trying to pretend like it doesn't exist. I like what little 3-D there is, how the backgrounds seem to recede a little, but I just wish there was way more depth. It would be cool when you saw mountains or something in the background they looked like they were like a hundred miles away instead of just a tiny bit behind the first layer.

Still, good game, I like it. I like it better than NSMBW even, though I'm sure that game was super fun for multiplayer (personally I've only ever played solo).

Honestly, this isn't likely to change your mind. It's fun, but the "NSMB"-ess of it is stronger than ever. Coin aspect aside, it's more same-y than either the DS or Wii game.

You reckon it's possible that the planned DLC will expand this mode & add the features you speak of?

Well, they patched Maka Wuhu so it's not completely out of the question. But DLC usually doesn't add new score caps or the ability to save more than one score, so I wouldn't bank on it.

Concerning the "same-y-ness" of this game, one of the ways they could have made it feel more new would be to just add some new music tracks, of course they could have simply changed some of the tiles they use to build the levels... but even just new music would have made it feel fresher, hearing those exact same tracks all over again is grating.

Finished world 1 and the first "secret" world with all star coins. The level design is there, and I'm strangely compelled to collect all of the coins. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would, but it still feels like I've done this exact same thing twice before.

Oh yeah, the music. Oh. My. Goodness. If that's the same music they're using in New Super Mario Bros. U, I'll either mute it or skip the game entirely. I don't need the same tracks (from the world 1 map music down to the title screen) again. It's like Animal Crossing: Wild World all over again.

@gamewizard65

Dude, think about this logically.

1 game released in 2006.
1 game released in 2009.

He hasn't played NSMB2 or NSMB WiiU, so they're completely irrelevant.

So we have two games across a period of six years and no new game for the last three. If under these circumstances he (or you) are 'sick' of the series, then there's something much deeper at play here, and nothing to do with the number of games being released.

@ludist210

To be fair, not every song is from NSMBDS and Wii!

...The Toad House theme is from 3D Land.

@TriforceBun

Get out of here with your "fairness".

Technicalities. I've about turned the audio off completely.

I don't remember hearing complaints that Sony released four Uncharted games within about five years of each other (including two that were three months apart). I haven't heard complaints about Activision releasing a Vita version of Call of Duty alongside the console games, or about Ubisoft releasing a Vita version of Assassin's Creed alongside the console release of III. So why does Nintendo get called out on this, not just by us, but by everyone? It doesn't really seem fair, especially considering it's been three years since the last game in the series, and six since the one before that. And it's not like NSMBWii wasn't a big step up from the DS game in terms of level design, multiplayer, and pretty much everything about it (outside of presentation). I guess we hold Nintendo to a higher standard, but even still, I don't think that two games in six years is enough to get burnt out. Yes, the Wii U and 3DS games are releasing relatively close together, but not having played them yet, it's not fair to include them when saying they're sick of the series.

Two games in six years is not milking it by any means. Not being interested in NSMB2 doesn't sound like someone being sick of the series -- it sounds like he just plain doesn't like the NSMB games. Which is fine, but it's more a result of someone's personal taste than a result of Nintendo overexposing the series. I'll understand if anyone passes on one or the other, because three months is pretty close to release two games in the same sub-series, but even then, from what I've seen and heard they're pretty different from one another (as different as two games in the same sub-series can be), and I'll definitely be getting both.

Complaining about the NSMB games seems unnecessary. It's not like the NSMB games are taking away resources from "better" Mario platformers or anything. Even ignoring those games, we still got more awesome Mario platformers in the Wii generation than we did in the GameCube or N64 generations, and they were some of the greatest games of this generation. If you don't like the NSMB games, just pretend they don't exist. It's not like we'd be getting "Super Mario Universe" or something at launch if NSMBU wasn't coming out. Me, I'm just happy to be getting some 2D Mario goodness that I was missing for a decade and a half before NSMB came out.

@rebonack

You want my guess on that release history thing? The NSMB games have continued to sell for so damn long that a lot of people don't even realize how old they are. I know I was surprised to discover it'd been 3 years since the last one, and I pay attention to this stuff.
08/21/12, 17:42
@rebonack

Couldn't have said it better. I was thinking the same exact thing yesterday (with TVandLust's discussion) about how other games get whored out way more than this yet no one seems to make a fuss.

Guys, post your Coin Rush high scores for the leaderboard in the OP.
08/21/12, 18:34
I already put mine a few pages back but it's 8462 for the Mushroom Pack. Is it really worth it though? There's no good sense of competing when everything is so random.
08/21/12, 18:38
Right now, my best for Mushroom Cup is 9,552 coins.
08/21/12, 18:50
2908 is my record for the Mushroom Pack in Coin Rush.

You're sick of them? There have only been two before - one from over half a decade ago, and then another three years ago. Are there really too many?

To answer your question, you may be better off not playing it. If you don't like the NEW Super Mario Bros. games, then you won't like this one.

I don't care about the randomness. I know that the best players will be first in the leaderboards regardless.

All this talk about the rehashed music, I do like the music in the secret worlds. Especially the second one. Is that new to this game? I don't recognize it.
