Welcome to the official discussion thread for Madden NFL 13 on the Wii U!

I believe I've owned every Madden on a Nintendo console since 2001 (with the best being 2005, I might add) and this is the version I've looked most forward to in a long time with the launch of the Wii U. I even owned it twice in 2006 when the Wii was released! It's unfortunate "we" won't be able to play with the new "Infinity Engine" they are using with the 360 and PS3 versions but it seems like it's going to be a massive upgrade to the Maddens we have played on the Wii.

"EA is bringing many of the key Madden 13 features to Wii U, which is being developed by a dedicated team. Ideas like Total Control Passing, Girdiron Club and the new commentators are on the way. Plus the integration with Wii U's GamePad will allow players to make faster play calls, substitute players and create custom hot routes on the fly, changing the way sports fans will interact with a Madden game. Another key feature being brought to Wii U is Connected Careers, which allows up to 32 players to form a league. Bialoskursky noted that online is a big emphasis for Nintendo this time around, aligning with EA's own interests for its sports titles. On the downside, however, the Madden Ultimate Team feature will not be present this time around."

I can't wait to use this game with the GamePad!

The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will utilize the tablet controller in various ways. During a match, players can quickly swift through the interactive playbook to call plays on the fly. They cal also use the Wii U stylus to trace the route for a player to run on the field. The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will also include most of the regular game modes, including career, manage a team, Connected Career mode, and online multiplayer as well. However, the game will not support the new Infinity physics engine, as developer EA did not have enough time to implement this feature.

The idea of being able to choose your play without your friend in the room being able to see or draw pass routes on the GamePad is awesome. I can't wait. See you online with the RAIDERS!

Not sure if you're doing it or not, but I know on those I've had to retrain myself to unlearn 25 years of video game football and not back up in the pocket. Doing that gives the DEs a much easier angle to get to you a lot faster.[/quote]
This. This has been the hardest thing to retrain myself to do. For all these years, backing up as far as possible was not only acceptable, but the only way to pass. Now it's more like real football.

Screw you, Madden.

Also, looking at some of the stats from other games in the league makes me wonder if I'm playing really slow or if other people are just running no-huddle or something for the entire game. It just seems like almost everyone else is getting a lot more plays. It's a bit more understandable in my regular league game since I started running the clock way down between plays when I got possession up 28-6 with about a minute left in the 3rd, but the fantasy league I played normal until I drained their timeouts and got a first down in the last 2 minutes.

@TheOldManFromZelda

I think you and I drafted similarly. I wanted a marquee back and Heavy D. The rapper, not the Defense. But he wasn't there so I went with Patrick Willis and a host of other awesome D guys. I DID take Tyson Clabo (RT) pretty early. He's like a 91..and still can't hold a block.

Yeah, I can't see me (now) spending any money on Free Agent packages or something, unless Free Agents are super stingy a-holes who KNOW which team they want to go to, and they're set in their ways about it. We might not think its a big deal RIGHT NOW because we have everyone on our teams that we need..but what happens at the end of the season when contracts are up? On that topic....are we going to have any contracts up in our Fantasy League? I went to re-sign some guys..and my list was empty. Did we draft everyone to 3-year contracts or something?

--ALSO, apparently, those packages are PERMANENT. Pretty cool, eh? I'm getting dueling HB Packages in my leagues ASAP.

@DeputyVanHalen

That..might be what I'm doing wrong. I usually drop back like 8-10 yards and do stuff there. Maybe I should work on hanging out in the pocket more next game. Good call, man..

@DeputyVanHalen

Is it the CPU? The CPU always has played longer games than we have. I look at Patrick Willis, and he's expected to get 125 tackles? Ehh, I guess that isn't THAT much (almost 8 a game), but it seems like a lot. I only usually have like 5 or 6 with any given player.

I had 2 INTs with George Wilson last night. I think his goal for the year is 4. Woo, Bills!..

No, I'm talking about other people's league games. I know the stats are out of whack for CPU vs CPU games because those are simmed with 15 minute quarters. But even some of the people who played games with 6 minute quarters from the stats it seems like their games had almost twice as many plays as mine in some cases. It just made me wonder.

How long does it take you to pick your play? haha

@MasterSandman II
I think the play clock is normally around 20 at the snap.

ARGH, I was up by TWO Touchdowns EARLY on chearn, led at halftime, and still managed to blow it.

Running game disappeared..which may be due to my FB1 BREAKING HIS JAW. *SIGH*

@Mr_Mustache
That sucks dude. On the bright side, there should be no way you don't get in the win column on at least one of your week 2 games.

Also, I wonder if everyone's ready to advance on the fantasy league if it will advance early. There are no week 1 games involving human players left to be played.
Posted: 01/09/13, 23:17:49
@DeputyVanHalen

Ho ho, I better win BOTH of those games. I've been playing a lot better lately...or am I just playing against less prepared human players? I saw Lou DECIMATED someone with his Vikes, 289 AP yards? CRIPES.

I should be buying HB XP Boost Packages with both teams BEFORE this week's game, too. Quite excited!

I talked to Hobbs last night on the Fantasy one. He says that GoPats is being a log lately. Only he and Hobbs had to play still, each against CPU ones -- wait, what? They both played? If so, it should automatically advance....assuming everyone marked themselves as "Ready!" Either way, it'll be open late tonight, 3am EST. (But I gotta come to work 6 hours early tomorrow, so I get to wait until Thursday night )

I would say that's why there are less plays..

Won the division in my offline connected career. Got a divisional playoff against the 8-8 Jets tonight. I just can't put this game down!

Yeah, it looks like he(gopats) played his fantasy league game but not his regular league one yet. I'm guessing there's at least a few that didn't set it to ready yet though.

I'm getting ready to start my second season of my career offline too. This season I'll be playing with the settings we're using for the league to help me get used to them.

@MasterSandman II

I looked at my Stats. November was like 6 hours. December was like 25 hours or something. I was already at/around that a few days ago for January...

I'll even be watching a movie or a show and just play Madden on the GamePad as I "watch" TV, haha
Posted: 01/10/13, 00:43:32
@MasterSandman II

I do practice on the GamePad, but I do games on the TV. I need some wins! 0-1 (x2)
Posted: 01/10/13, 00:54:59
Yeah, I'll practice on it, but I hate giving up the ability to draw hot routes when I see an opening in the defense during games.

Yeah, that part isn't so fun

@Mr_Mustache

Do you have an offline career going?
Posted: 01/10/13, 01:18:58
@MasterSandman II

No, I don't. I'm playing enough online as it is. (I'm in both leagues, remember? I'm playing about as much as you are.)

It's nearly impossible to set up games with people in that league so I needed an offline career so I could actually play, lol

@MasterSandman II

Aren't so many games against CPU opponents though? And you're up late; I've played everyone but Lou at night.
