Madden NFL 13 on the Wii U

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Madden NFL 13 on the Wii U!

I believe I've owned every Madden on a Nintendo console since 2001 (with the best being 2005, I might add) and this is the version I've looked most forward to in a long time with the launch of the Wii U. I even owned it twice in 2006 when the Wii was released! It's unfortunate "we" won't be able to play with the new "Infinity Engine" they are using with the 360 and PS3 versions but it seems like it's going to be a massive upgrade to the Maddens we have played on the Wii.

"EA is bringing many of the key Madden 13 features to Wii U, which is being developed by a dedicated team. Ideas like Total Control Passing, Girdiron Club and the new commentators are on the way. Plus the integration with Wii U's GamePad will allow players to make faster play calls, substitute players and create custom hot routes on the fly, changing the way sports fans will interact with a Madden game. Another key feature being brought to Wii U is Connected Careers, which allows up to 32 players to form a league. Bialoskursky noted that online is a big emphasis for Nintendo this time around, aligning with EA's own interests for its sports titles. On the downside, however, the Madden Ultimate Team feature will not be present this time around."

I can't wait to use this game with the GamePad!

The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will utilize the tablet controller in various ways. During a match, players can quickly swift through the interactive playbook to call plays on the fly. They cal also use the Wii U stylus to trace the route for a player to run on the field. The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will also include most of the regular game modes, including career, manage a team, Connected Career mode, and online multiplayer as well. However, the game will not support the new Infinity physics engine, as developer EA did not have enough time to implement this feature.

The idea of being able to choose your play without your friend in the room being able to see or draw pass routes on the GamePad is awesome. I can't wait. See you online with the RAIDERS!

@Mr_Mustache
I could probably play tonight if we did it right after the game. I work tomorrow, so I'm probably only going to have a window of like 5-7 ish central time that I'm free tomorrow. I did do the practice earlier today. I saw you guys on all day and assumed that's what you must have been doing. I could imagine that would take a very long time.

It was something like 4 and a half hours. I gotta get my Practice in still. We can shoot for tonight still.
I'll do my practice as soon as the Mrs_ is done playing Nintendo Land (hooray for Wii U).

Wont' be home tomorow at that time. I'll be oot and aboot.

Do you know how we actually play each other?? I..have no idea.
12/31/12, 04:53
I know we'll have to go in the league page. I think on the actions page, if you look at play game, if we both are in there we should both have green lights next to our names and if we both pick play game then it should start. That's just my guess.

@DeputyVanHalen

Alright. I'm gonna practice now. Swing into Hobbs chat when you'e ready.
12/31/12, 05:13
@Mr_Mustache
Will do.

@DeputyVanHalen

Man, you mopped the floor with me.

I THINK it may have something to do with the fact that you're the best receiver on my team...
12/31/12, 08:49
@Mr_Mustache
That may have had a little to do with it. I honestly had no idea what to expect since that was my first online game of Madden in at least 6 years. I just hope I do that well once the games start counting.

When it was close I thought the fact that it had my punter kicking FGs was going to end up costing me the game. I get the playing backups thing in the preseason, but that was a bit much.
12/31/12, 15:08
So I said to myself before the NFL season ended that I would buy a Madden installment if the Redskins won the NFC East. Well, lo and behold...I'll see what kind of deal I can find.

@DeputyVanHalen

Did you change 'em out? The guys over there EXPECT the pausing, so don't feel bad about it. Just don't...pause constantly. Pause it, do your thing, they'll do their thing, and when you're ready, roll with it. OH. Do NOT pause DURING a play. That is NOT cool.

I played Hobbs last night, and paused at the end of 1, end of 2, and the first new series in the 4th.

--And I learned today that TheBigG dropped out of the standard league, oh no! We were supposed to play next
What have I donnnne?!

@ludist210

HA!! AWESOME.

--You could've drafted an awesome Redskins team! DVH didn't take 'em in the Draft league. Not sure who you'd play as (if you played with us) in the "Standard" league.

@Mr_Mustache
No I didn't change them out. I'm not bothering with the depth charts during preseason. I don't think I've paused once yet online. I didn't even think you could pause during a play. I know in several of the past games online you couldn't.

Ya know, I've just been out of the game for so long (Madden, that is), jumping right into 2 leagues started to feel a little overwhelming considering how much I've struggled against the CPU so far, LOL. I figure I'll keep up more with the fantasy league, and I'll be fine if I go 0-16 and have some fun along the way.

@TheOldManFromZelda

You're the Bills in the Fantasy league, right? I think we're playing next. If you want to play, I'm available either night (tonight or tomorrow night).

@TheBigG753

Yessir!

Tonight would be optimal. I should be ok to play around 9:30pm EST if you are available.
01/03/13, 15:52
@TheOldManFromZelda

9:30 sounds good. See ya then!
01/03/13, 16:51
@Mr_Mustache

Well, I may wait until next year when all of the features are added and RGIII is on the cover.

Man, Greg, that would've been such an awesome week for you! Playing the Bills twice, and each Lou and I! I played my Bills game against the CPU last night. I mauled them pretty good, 7 sacks (YES)...and I also gave up my Signature 99 Yard Dive for a TD. How infuriating.

I punt it, down it at the 5. Hold them, move them back, and then the QB is standing in the endzone for 3rd down. I have no idea what to do here. Apparently "Goal Line" is the wrong set. *SIGH*

EDIT- Also, I think a lot of people are struggling with things. I haven't scored an offensive touchdown with my first team offense against a first team defense in..I don't know how long. Its been games. AND I keep getting shut out in practice with either team. Pretty awful.

OH, and Hobbs slid the sliders down to 6 minute Quarters.

@ludist210

Oh, haha, alright.. But then he'll get the Madden Curse! Like Calvin Johnson!!!.....

@Mr_Mustache

Don't run goal line defense in that situation. Goal line is when your opponent is near your end zone (like on the 1 or closer), not when they're pinned in theirs. That's asking for a short pass to get them out of the situation or worse, as you experienced.

For your situation, rush three to five (depending on your defensive set), drop your corners into man-coverage underneath, and keep safeties in a zone (though if you choose to blitz one of your safeties, make your a linebacker gets into coverage) right around the line of scrimmage. The odds of a team going over-the-top to burn you for a long pass are slim, but if they do, you at least have safety help.

Still debating, but money is tight right now. I do want a good Madden game though. We'll see how the 'Skins do this Sunday at home against Seattle.

Yeah, definitely don't run goal-line in that situation. It wasn't goal-line defense, but in my last game the guy ran an all-out blitz on me(7 or 8 guys) in that situation going for the safety and I turned a quick slant into a 90+ yard TD untouched.

@ludist210

I guess..yeah, that makes sense. I was fully expecting a RUN though, WHICH THEY DID. I wanted an awesome safety! 3 to 5, NOT including your D-Linemen? I RARELY blitz any secondary, though the corner comes occasionally. I run Safeties in Zone constantly. Lots of Cover 2.

Oh, and Lou drafted RGIII in the first or second round of our league. Thought you might like that.

@DeputyVanHalen

Was that our game?? Probably
01/04/13, 01:31
@Mr_Mustache
No, it was my second preseason game.
01/04/13, 01:41
@DeputyVanHalen

How is your progression coming? I CONFIRMED last night that you earn XP from PRACTICE for your guys, too.

AWESOME.
