Madden NFL 13 on the Wii U
7.33/10 from 3 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Madden NFL 13 on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

I believe I've owned every Madden on a Nintendo console since 2001 (with the best being 2005, I might add) and this is the version I've looked most forward to in a long time with the launch of the Wii U. I even owned it twice in 2006 when the Wii was released! It's unfortunate "we" won't be able to play with the new "Infinity Engine" they are using with the 360 and PS3 versions but it seems like it's going to be a massive upgrade to the Maddens we have played on the Wii.

"EA is bringing many of the key Madden 13 features to Wii U, which is being developed by a dedicated team. Ideas like Total Control Passing, Girdiron Club and the new commentators are on the way. Plus the integration with Wii U's GamePad will allow players to make faster play calls, substitute players and create custom hot routes on the fly, changing the way sports fans will interact with a Madden game. Another key feature being brought to Wii U is Connected Careers, which allows up to 32 players to form a league. Bialoskursky noted that online is a big emphasis for Nintendo this time around, aligning with EA's own interests for its sports titles. On the downside, however, the Madden Ultimate Team feature will not be present this time around."

I can't wait to use this game with the GamePad!

The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will utilize the tablet controller in various ways. During a match, players can quickly swift through the interactive playbook to call plays on the fly. They cal also use the Wii U stylus to trace the route for a player to run on the field. The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will also include most of the regular game modes, including career, manage a team, Connected Career mode, and online multiplayer as well. However, the game will not support the new Infinity physics engine, as developer EA did not have enough time to implement this feature.

The idea of being able to choose your play without your friend in the room being able to see or draw pass routes on the GamePad is awesome. I can't wait. See you online with the RAIDERS!

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

I have it reserved and would've picked it up last night if the clerk had let me. I'd be in for a league or even just occasional online games.

@DeputyVanHalen

Awesome. Did you play any of the Wii games? Myself, Sandman, and TheOldManFromZelda used to play in other leagues with another group of guys before. They're...really good though. If we can't get enough here, I'm sure we could find a spot for you there. Who do you like to play as? I'm always the Bills, I know Sandman takes the Raiders. Lou does a Vikings/Texans/Titans hybrid thing.

I played them on the 360 this gen, but haven't played much the last couple years. My first choice is always my Skins, even when they suck, which has been almost every football game since the first couple 2K games.

I'm ok at Madden. I was much better on 2K though. When that series was around, I was usually ranked in the top 200 on the leaderboards. I'm usually 50/50 online in Madden games.

@Mr_Mustache

If I were to get it, I call the Redskins.

EDIT: NOOOOOOOOOOO! Hmmm, I could go with a team that I'm close to. That would be Atlanta or New Orleans...

EDIT 2: With that league, is there a draft or do we just use the rosters as-is?

I made this the official discussion thread for this game.

Can you draw plays on the GamePad?

I recall that being mentioned as an idea for GBA > GCN connectivity way back when, draw plays on your GBA that no one else can see. Will it finally be realised...?

@Mop it up
For hot routes, yes.

@ludist210

Whatever you want, brah!

If we're talking about an NW league, I'm pretty sure we can do whatever we want. If we get like 5 people here, and we don't have enough, the league with the other guy we go to would be your as-is roster, and it would be updated when EA updates it.

HOWEVER, if the Connected Careers thing is like I HOPE it is, we'd be in a contained FRANCHISE mode, and you could trade and do Free Agency and all that awesome stuff. Please, PLEASE be like that.......

@Zero

AWESOME.

@DeputyVanHalen

Yep, pretty much exactly what DVH said. Its..pretty awesome. And should be QUICK, too.
I guess you can sub guys in / out really quick as well.

The Wii U version is based on this year's 360/PS3 version and I'm 99.9% sure those removed fantasy drafts this year. But yes, connected careers is more or less franchise mode than can be played online. You'll want to pick a coach not a player for your career though.

@DeputyVanHalen

Yeah, getting stuck as a single player is the poops. I tried doing a Free Safety (my position of choice, after awesome Kurt Schulz, who I ripped off forever. Schulz24, baby!!) career one time in Madden 08, and it was IMPOSSIBLE. I looked like a fool out there!

If you want to do a player career, I can't see doing anything OTHER than QB or HB.

I fell asleep PROMPTLY after my game last night (Bills over Phins, 14-6). How did you other guys do on Day 1?

Was it everything you hoped it would be? I was having a tough time navigating the Playbook, and I felt like I was flailing around a lot there on Defense; offense wasn't much different.

For those of you who DID get it, what works best for you?
When you have the ball, ZR for Boost and then WHAT for evasive stuff? Right stick hasn't done anything for me yet (I gotta re-train myself and believe that that is simply the C-Stick). I guess B? does Stiff Arm? Hmm.
Kicking took me a second or two to get it to work properly.

Enough from me for now. What about you dudes?

Am I still the only guy in this thread? C'mon!

--Played last night against the Jets, got blown out 38-0.
Bumped it down to Rookie, played the Pats..and creamed them, 45-0.

Help?
11/21/12, 01:56
I've only got to play around a little with it. I assume the game you lost was on Pro then?
11/21/12, 04:11
@DeputyVanHalen

Yeah, the Jets one was on Pro (but I just beat the Dolphins the night before on Pro, hmm).

I play on Gamecube on All-Pro, and I played on Wii on All-Pro, too. I generally do well. If I play against ONLY the CPU through a season (no human players), I usually come out with a pretty darn good record, on the side of less than 4 losses total, including Playoffs. That should give an indicator of my skill level, I guess? I've been playing for a few years in a Wii league with MasterSandman and some other guys, but I do get handled pretty well there (but these guys are playing GAMES AND GAMES each day..like TEN a day. It is kind of annoying though.., and "cripes, play another game"ish).
11/21/12, 04:39
I may be getting this for my birthday. Not sure though. Besides the lack of the new physics engine on the PS360 version, what else did they scalp from the game? I think they took out some awesome franchise/online feature?
11/21/12, 14:03
@TheOldManFromZelda
I don't think it's missing anything from the PS360 versions other than the physics engine. If you're referring to the Connected Careers mode, it's still there.

EDIT: I remember now. Madden Ultimate team was the other feature that was removed. I don't miss it at all since I never used it though.

Come play it, fool!

Just had the craziest game I've had in years in my regular season opener. I'm the Redskins playing on pro against the Saints. I play 8 min quarters with accelerated clock on. One difference I noticed is that you can't throw into traffic at all anymore. In the first 2 and a half quarters, RG3 threw 5 INTs. At that point, I'm down 31-7. I finally get it going and score 3 TDs while going 3-for-3 on 2-point conversions to tie the game with 40 seconds left on a 65 yarder to Santana Moss against an all-out blitz. Unfortunately, Sproles made a ridiculous diving catch to set up a 57 yard FG for them to beat me on the last play 34-31. Still the most fun I've had on Madden in many years.

@DeputyVanHalen

Oh yeah, this game is INT Happy. Like..TOO MUCH.

I played a game last night (Bills vs. Rams), and it echoed the real-life Bills/Rams game..too much. A little backstory; I got a League invite from that guy Hobbs I told you about, and I joined up. I checked his settings: All-Pro, 6 Minute Quarters. I've been playing Pro 5 to this point, so I guess its time to advance, eh? 6 Minute Quarters felt like a good length game, actually. I like nice round numbers, and I've played 5's in almost every football game forever, but yeah, it was good.

Anyway, my team was AFRAID of the Endzone so bad. Just like the real Bills. I got a field goal for an early lead, and held it until they took it later on. It looked as if I was going to lose the game after being within range the entire time, but they had some HORRIBLE clock management (I have no idea what they were doing; they were melting the clock before the 3 minute mark even hit, but then they were PASSING with 40 seconds left???). Incomplete pass followed by my timeouts gave me the ball back very late. I scored on a Play Action Pass (PA to this point in ALL of my Madden '13 games have been an INSTANT SACK), like a 70 yard run and catch to my slot guy. Nobody could catch him, and I tied it up. OVERTIME.

Lost the toss, got the ball back...and threw an INT almost immediately to end my chances. LIKE REAL LIFE.
Bills didn't go to OT yesterday, but they were extremely disappointing on their final offensive play.

So yeah, DVH, whats going on over on Hobbs' page? Have you been posting/talking over there? I saw your name (among others) in the Madden Moments stuff. I did the Week 13 challenges last night; there is a leaderboard! Get in there, brother!

I am still on fence about this game...

To buy or not to buy, that is the question!
