Welcome to the official discussion thread for Madden NFL 13 on the Wii U!

I believe I've owned every Madden on a Nintendo console since 2001 (with the best being 2005, I might add) and this is the version I've looked most forward to in a long time with the launch of the Wii U. I even owned it twice in 2006 when the Wii was released! It's unfortunate "we" won't be able to play with the new "Infinity Engine" they are using with the 360 and PS3 versions but it seems like it's going to be a massive upgrade to the Maddens we have played on the Wii.
"EA is bringing many of the key Madden 13 features to Wii U, which is being developed by a dedicated team. Ideas like Total Control Passing, Girdiron Club and the new commentators are on the way. Plus the integration with Wii U's GamePad will allow players to make faster play calls, substitute players and create custom hot routes on the fly, changing the way sports fans will interact with a Madden game. Another key feature being brought to Wii U is Connected Careers, which allows up to 32 players to form a league. Bialoskursky noted that online is a big emphasis for Nintendo this time around, aligning with EA's own interests for its sports titles. On the downside, however, the Madden Ultimate Team feature will not be present this time around."
The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will utilize the tablet controller in various ways. During a match, players can quickly swift through the interactive playbook to call plays on the fly. They cal also use the Wii U stylus to trace the route for a player to run on the field. The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will also include most of the regular game modes, including career, manage a team, Connected Career mode, and online multiplayer as well. However, the game will not support the new Infinity physics engine, as developer EA did not have enough time to implement this feature.
The idea of being able to choose your play without your friend in the room being able to see or draw pass routes on the GamePad is awesome. I can't wait. See you online with the RAIDERS!
@Mr_Mustache Well, it's just not worth it to me. I really don't care how people play. I wouldn't care if somebody went for it and 4th and 28 on their own 2 in the first quarter or did the same thing every play or whatever. I just don't like people then losing it over me doing something that it's in reality way more "sim" than the crap they're pulling and getting away with it. It's just a game, and that crap removes all the fun from it. Also, why bother having any rules if you're not going to enforce the no quitting rule if nothing else? Hobbs seemed perfectly fine in that chat with people just quitting for whatever. Anyway, I appreciate what you tried to do over there.
I have a pretty good idea what they're doing to run up those ridiculous stats. The AI defense can't handle trips bunch formations. It causes a complete confusion meltdown of the AI. If you call the right combination of routes, at least one receiver, usually the tight end and/or slot receiver, will be wide open on either a post or a corner route, pretty much regardless of what coverage was called. Big shocker, in the game yesterday that was Slicknic's entire offense and I only slowed it down by guessing correctly which receiver the AI would abandon and by manually covering that guy.
..They can't? Now I feel bad doing that. *sigh* Usually when I find something that feels..exploity? to me, I stop doing it. Great, now I don't have Trips Bunch. Laaame.
I saw Voltron Smith's story today, too. Ughhhh. I really wish you didn't pack up and leave (ESPECIALLY the team that you hand-drafted). That makes those idiots feel that they were right, and they'll continue to do it to people like myself, Lou, Sandman, Bigs, etc.
I don't know what is up with people quitting games. I'd punch someone in their face if they quit against me if I could.
@Mr_Mustache I wouldn't worry about it if you don't overdo it. Every football game ever made has the money plays that are almost impossible to stop. As long as you don't use them too often, it won't be a big deal. There are actually a few adjustments that can be made at the line to at least help manage those issues, but the AI will pretty much never make them on their own. Also don't know for sure if the problem is all plays out of the trips bunch formation or just the ones where routes in the bunch cross that cause the problem.
I actually didn't draft that team. I didn't join the fantasy league until a couple weeks into the preseason. I blind picked the Panthers because my girlfriend is from outside Charlotte and that's her team. I'm pretty sure that they were going to keep doing it anyway as long as Hobbs takes the "oh well, what can you do?" approach. I had some good fun games with some of you guys, but overall this whole experience reminded me why I stopped playing online games with total strangers years ago. And yes, I think people would behave a whole lot differently if their actions might get them punched in the face.
Make it *7-in-a-row* for the Steelers! Me and rCeeDee played arguably the sloppiest and ugliest game of the year. My only TD was a pick-6, and his only score for most of the game came off of a muffed punt. I couldn't stop McFadden in the 4th quarter and went down 14-13, but finished the game off with a 13- or 14-play drive (thanks Heath Miller!) and a game winning FG as time expired. My running game was taken completely out of the game and ugh, I had to pass to win.
Yikes, take a whiff of this (poor Russell Wilson...makes Big Ben look like a world-beater!):
LeroyBoss and I played a great game last night. He scored the winning TD with 30 seconds left, a mere 20 seconds after I scored the tying TD. Dem's the breaks. I think I've been eliminated from the playoffs, as my record is now 6-7.
My luck continues to elude me. I was up 20-3 midway through the 3rd quarter this morning, only to lose 30-20. Everything stopped working, from the running game to my pass defense. I don't know what happened. I'm liking this game less and less the more I play it.
Who was that against? MJ? I wish we talked sooner. I TORE HIM UP last night with Quarter 3 Deep. 6 picks! (I can't remember the actual play. Its all Zone stuff though; 3 deep, 3 middle, 2 on the sides.)
Actually, only 4 of them were out of that set, the other two were simple Dime Cover 2 and 4-3 Cover 2. Wild.
Seems to be a lot of discussion about what to do for the next season, in terms of yard/point limits. MJ freaked out, and said we are incapable of running up the score against the computer, so we're scared to play on All-Madden. I'm baffled. I think it's bad form to run the score up, even on the computer. I don't see what the appeal is.
--We need to be able to run up the score to WANT to play on All-Madden? Ugh. And yes, I wholly agree. No matter who your opponent is, running up the score is gross. There is a reason that MJ hasn't beaten a human opponent in a long time (and why AirGator lost last night to Sandman after nearly losing to my stinky Bills); these guys are SO used to play the CPU and using a style of play that they use for that, that when it comes time to play an ACTUAL PERSON, their skills are out the window.
I don't think there should be a Points / Yards limit, but I also don't think we should be scoring/gaining 100+ / 1000+. Just employ some "common sense," people. Cripes.
