Welcome to the official discussion thread for Madden NFL 13 on the Wii U!

I believe I've owned every Madden on a Nintendo console since 2001 (with the best being 2005, I might add) and this is the version I've looked most forward to in a long time with the launch of the Wii U. I even owned it twice in 2006 when the Wii was released! It's unfortunate "we" won't be able to play with the new "Infinity Engine" they are using with the 360 and PS3 versions but it seems like it's going to be a massive upgrade to the Maddens we have played on the Wii.

"EA is bringing many of the key Madden 13 features to Wii U, which is being developed by a dedicated team. Ideas like Total Control Passing, Girdiron Club and the new commentators are on the way. Plus the integration with Wii U's GamePad will allow players to make faster play calls, substitute players and create custom hot routes on the fly, changing the way sports fans will interact with a Madden game. Another key feature being brought to Wii U is Connected Careers, which allows up to 32 players to form a league. Bialoskursky noted that online is a big emphasis for Nintendo this time around, aligning with EA's own interests for its sports titles. On the downside, however, the Madden Ultimate Team feature will not be present this time around."

I can't wait to use this game with the GamePad!

The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will utilize the tablet controller in various ways. During a match, players can quickly swift through the interactive playbook to call plays on the fly. They cal also use the Wii U stylus to trace the route for a player to run on the field. The Madden NFL 13 Wii U version will also include most of the regular game modes, including career, manage a team, Connected Career mode, and online multiplayer as well. However, the game will not support the new Infinity physics engine, as developer EA did not have enough time to implement this feature.

The idea of being able to choose your play without your friend in the room being able to see or draw pass routes on the GamePad is awesome. I can't wait. See you online with the RAIDERS!

@MasterSandman II

DVH has the scouting report. He's apparently only doing a couple passes and draws, haha, so you should probably be ok..

@Mr_Mustache
Well, to be fair, he did other runs in the first 3 or 4 minutes until he was a couple scores behind. Then it was shotgun the whole game.

I guess I'm improving...I managed a tie tonight...

What a terrible game. Tennessee scored early to go up 7-0, and my defense shut them down the rest of the game. I gave up on throwing the football after getting sacked 3 plays in a row and just started goalline ground & pounding the rest of the game. Missed a FG that would have made a big difference in the end. I pound it in on 4th and goal with only a few seconds left to send it to OT 7-7.

I keep pounding it down their throats and throwing short passes to the TE and kick a FG. Then, miraculously, their offense finds a spark after doing nothing all game. They go on like a 12 play drive, and at the end, Jamaal Charles busts out a 30 yard run on third down and I luckily tackled him at the 7 yard line or he was going to score. Time ran out at that point, so they kicked a FG and it ended 10-10.

Meh...

@TheBigG753

Haha, wow! Was that a CPU game? Jamaal Charles is on the Fantasy Jets, right? So yeah, I guess that IS a CPU game.. C'mon, Greg, wins are waiting for you right around the corner! Are you getting decent XP from games and practices?

EDIT- I do the full "Offense" or "Defense" practice (1500 points for your Coach to spend on packages if you Win, and you get 1200 if you lose, so yeah!), and the XP you get from it ties in with your Game Goal expectations (for your players). Sooo, every time I'm in practice, I try to get 2 TDs and 100+ w/ my HB, and that is a full load of points for him. Replicate it in the game, and its like I played two weeks in one. I think a lot of people kinda just shrug off practice and think "eh, doesn't count," but obviously... Marshawn Lynch has done the groundwork for like "20" games (including preseason), and he leads the league in rushing. I don't think it is a coincidence.

@Mr_Mustache
Practice is the one thing that's killing me with this game. I get so bored doing them but feel like I have to in order to keep up with everyone. In my offline career I don't even bother and just get the xp I get from games.

@DeputyVanHalen

Is 9:30EST ok for tonight?
01/23/13, 22:24
@DeputyVanHalen

Bored with practice? Really? I'm sorry you feel that. Do you set goals for yourself at all? Can you get 300 yds passing in Practice? I'm sure some of your guys would love it. Its like Score Attack mode, too, isn't it?
01/23/13, 22:34
@TheOldManFromZelda
Yeah, that will work.

@Mr_Mustache
I just think it's really dull. Especially having to do in 2 leagues every few days I usually just pick the 2 minute drill one to get some points and get it over with. I preferred the 2K practice mode where you could pick your play and the opponent's play and repeat as many times as you wanted. That was actually useful if something in particular was giving you trouble. This is just a forced, at least if you want to keep up online, meaningless extra game.

Agreed. I hate practice mode. I only play the stop the team on your own 10 yard line with 40 seconds left one. Who wants to play a full half of a game that means nothing? Ugh

Beat IronHorse 27-9 yesterday. I think the game was a lot closer than the score indicates though. Had an interception for a touchdown, a fumble recovery for a touchdown on a punt and a 95 yard touchdown run. Take those lucky plays away and I probably lose the game but that's how she goes!

@MasterSandman II

Eesh, I'm sorry you guys don't like it..

I ALWAYS play a full game that means nothing. Its great!
01/24/13, 00:29
@Mr_Mustache

Nope, he's on the Tits.

I do the Easy Win or 2nd Half Lead practices, usually. I don't think that's the problem, though, I'm just terrible.

And I'm never going to get the X/Y button confusion straight. Damn console manufacturers, every controller should just be the same!!!!
01/24/13, 02:02
@TheBigG753
It took me awhile to unlearn that one. I don't know how many int's that caused me.
01/24/13, 02:08
@TheBigG753

I wanna scout that team.

What do you do before the play? I ALWAYS look at all of my guys, where they're going, and sometimes I even say my receivers out loud which I'm eyeing. I've found (who knows) that this actually helps me get to the guy I'm looking at..but again, I threw 4 Picks recently, haha, so who knows.

My game last night would've been a 55-0 shutout, but I STUPIDLY blitzed my SS (I NEVER DO THIS, and I'm not just saying that so I can bust you guys w/ a Safety Blitz one of these times) and they bombed it to Stevie Johnson right over my head for like 85 yards. Garb.
01/24/13, 02:18
@Mr_Mustache
Wow. That is a beatdown. I see you're in first place in the fantasy league.
01/24/13, 02:26
@DeputyVanHalen

In the NFC West? Am I? Yipes. I gotta play MJ next week though, and I think my lifetime record against him is like 2-12 or something. It isn't good. I've been saying it all along though, I'm a huge believer in this momentum stuff. I'm on a 5 game winning streak; this is the test.
01/24/13, 02:29
@Mr_Mustache
Yeah, you're 5-1, he's 4-2. He beat me my last game in fantasy league, but it was close and I was playing without my top 2 receivers. I don't think his fantasy league team is all that strong. You can do it.

If I can beat OldManFromZelda tonight, my next game in the regular league is going to be huge. I'm playing the Giants and right now I'm 4-1 and he's 5-0. I'm seriously starting to think you may have to go 12-4 to get a wild card in the NFC in that league.

I destroy people with the SS Blitz :)

@DeputyVanHalen

Thanks for the vote of confidence! You can ask Sandman (and Lou to an extent), VERY RARELY was I ever at an X-1 record in any of these leagues. I'm sure the CPU opponents have something to do with it, but I've already lost to them a few times, and we can see our friend BigG having trouble with them currently, too (though he's gonna rack up some huge wins very soon!!).

Anyway, MJ was lecturing me a couple weeks ago about how I need to learn how to beat the CPU and all that. I'm going to implement what he told me, and use it against him, haha. If it works for him, he'll probably use it on me. Scouting!

You're talking MIN vs. WAS, right? I'm getting leagues mixed up, haha, NOT BUF vs. CAR, right? Big game for you guys, lets all be safe out there, eh? (Seriously, don't wanna lose a dude to injury; Jairus Byrd went down for me for the season in the Standard League. Poops.)

@MasterSandman II

Well look at you! Teach me the way. I have been getting some solid D-Line Sacks though late-late in the game recently.
01/24/13, 03:05
Yeah, this is in the regular league, Minnesota vs. Washington. This is my bye week in the fantasy league. I lost my last CPU game in the fantasy league too. I was kicking myself for that one, but I couldn't stop Eli Manning.

Lets be honest -- WHO CAN?

EDIT- Haha, I forgot to tell you guys that Fantasy Giants have Jason Campbell as their best QB. I actually had the advantage w/ Weeden. What the hell were they doing on Draft Day?!
