HUGE SPOILERS FOR LORDS OF SHADOWS AND HUGE POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOR MIRROR OF FATE!!!

Still with me? Ok, let's begin.This is just my personal theory. Before I begin, I have to say that in this new timeline, some characters do not exist like Leon Belmont (at least yet) and Dracula has a new identity, Gabriel Belmont. Read on, if you dare: While it is debatable who says what, I think this is the basic gist: If you study the trailer below, you will see that Trevor went to Castlevania to stop evil. We all know that the evil Trevor is facing is his father Gabriel Belmont who became Dracula at the end of Lords of Shadow. Marie, Trevor's mother, knows of Gabriel's fate because of the Mirror of Fate. Before leaving to Castlevania, Trevor leaves a piece of the Mirror of Fate with Simon, his son. Trevor never returned. When Simon goes years later to discover what became of Trevor, he is greeted at the gate by someone with white hair, carrying the Battle Cross that Trevor used to carry with him. It is safe to assume that this white haired individual is Alucard (because we already know he is in the game) who promises to help Simon on his quest against Dracula. I believe that something happened to Trevor and he became Alucard at some moment during his adventure, probably when he faced Dracula. Therefore, this would fit in with Gabriel being the father to both Trevor and Alucard, both biologically and vampirically. Then after the meeting, you hear Alucard tell Simon, "You fight well, worthy of the name, Belmont." Then, to hammer down the point, at 1:52 Alucard says "It seems fate has given me a second chance...Father," presumably indicating that his transformation into a vampire has given Trevor another chance to defeat his father Gabriel.

When I first saw Trevor's new design I thought that he looked very regal, which was new for him. Then, when I saw the design for Alucard, I noticed similarities in their clothing style, body shape, and hair. It was at that moment that I suspected that the change in design for Trevor was in preparation for his eventual transformation into Alucard. Then, if you look at Trevor's Combat Cross and Alucard's sword, the hilt is almost identical and we know, from Lords of Shadow, that the rest of the weapon can be heavily modified, which probably means that Alucard modified it into a sword.

Here's the video:

Here are Trevor and Alucard, side by side. As @GameDadGrant pointed out here, Trevor's left foot is disappearing while Simon is show in full in his character art. Could this be a clue as to Trevor's fate? (yes, I know this is reaching):

Here is a closeup of the Combat Cross:

So the question is: Will Trevor become Alucard in Castlevania: Mirror of Fate?

Very interesting theory! And fairly likely to become true. Definitely looking forward to the game to discover the truth!

I'm gonna wimp out and vote "Not sure" because who knows what curveball Mercury Steam may try to throw at us. But I wouldn't at all be surprised if your theory is correct.

Yeah, he will. I'm not crazy about it, just like I thought it was a cheap turnabout that Gabriel turned into Dracula for no reason at the end of Lords (didn't play the DLC that supposedly explained it).

But oh well, it's not like Igavania games had great stories, either.

@nate38

Yeah the DLC did explain it but it should have been included in the game somehow. I mean it's a fairly huge plot point and to leave its explanation to DLC was really cheap of them to do.

As for this poll, I hadn't followed up on the inclusion of Trevor or Simon all that much but after reading your post, I think I'd agree that he'd change. It'll be interesting how this fits in with Lords of Shadow 2 as well because Alucard is definitely in that game. I'm just surprised that there's currently no plans on bringing over the game to Wii U. What's the point of having Mirror of Fate on 3DS then?

@VofEscaflowne

Eh. Having Castlevania show up on Nintendo's handhelds and not on their consoles (while the series continues to get entries on other consoles) isn't new.

Though having this "new" series start off the way it is and having this 3DS game kind of "bridge" the gap between the two sequels is goofy. You're right.

@VofEscaflowne & @GameDadGrant the developer said that they thought of putting the game on the Vita. However, they decided to put it on the 3DS because they "wanted to take advantage of the 3D effect." I think the real reason is that the 3DS has sold 17+ million units while the PSV has sold only around 2 million so far.

Even if you didn't play the DLC for LoS, Gabriel is described as lost by the end of that game. I didn't think it was a huge leap for him to go from where he was after beating Satan to where he was in the final cutscene.

And yeah, one of the Belmonts, probably Trevor, is obviously Alucard, unless this whole setup is a bait and switch.

@GameDadGrant

But this game is an obvious tie in while others, while still in the same Castlevania universe, weren't really important when it came to story. I mean it even keeps the Lords of Shadow sub (sub sub?) title

I guess it wasn't a huge leap, he was a sour puss in the end. But the way it was handled was just awful. It's like the developers desperately wanted him to become Dracula but couldn't figure out how to do it in a way that made any sense within the story, so they just slapped it in after the credits.

"My wife is still dead and all my efforts were for nothing... 500 years later I am Dracula rawrrrr!"

Well the storytelling method in LoS was awful and deliberately deceptive just to fool the player, so I thought the ending was par for the course!

@Kal-El814 Ha, fair enough! Remember the Portal gag? I wish I didn't.

You're right. This is like when Square put Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on GBA, which was the "link" game between Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II. But then neither one of those games show up on Gamecube.

Developers, Y U DO DAT?
