Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble (800 Points): Revisit Donkey Kong Island and join the Kong family for their latest adventure. The Kremlings have a mysterious new leader named KAOS and are up to their usual mischief, even capturing Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Now it's up to Dixie Kong and the newest Kong, a giant infant named Kiddy, to rescue the two missing apes. They'll travel across previously unseen parts of the island in their search, and even take to the skies in a rocket at one point. Lucky for them, Dixie and Kiddy's powers complement each other (including Kiddy's talent for rolling like a barrel), so they form a powerful team capable of major Kremling damage. They're not completely on their own, either, since returning favorites like Funky Kong and Enguarde the swordfish provide help along the way. And in a series known for its abundance of secrets and high replay value, this entry doesn't disappoint, with enough hours of game play to satisfy Donkey Kong himself. Anyone else have a sudden urge for some bananas?
@Mr_Mustache DKC2 is more difficult than DKC1 by a lot. I think the music in DKC was better too. I do think some of the level design in DKC2 is better, though. There are less blind jumps than there were in DKC. How is DKC3 compared the the others?
@Mr_Mustache The music overall has a different feel from the first game's, but I think it's just as high in quality. The first game's music felt a little more whimsical overall, whereas DKC2's soundtrack tends to have a lot of darker-sounding, more melancholic moments in its music. Both games delved into that, but DKC2 I think goes further in that direction.
EDIT: @sirmastersephiroth I think DKC3's level design is the most polished and refined out of the three games. Almost every level also includes a unique enemy or situation of some kind, that the level is based around. Some of the levels drag a little when they adhere too strictly to that particular level's unique quality, but generally I think they're cool.
Well, I never really liked the slower stuff in DKC that everyone goes crazy for. You know, the water stages and such. I also don't like the Phil Collinsesque ones either. Bramble Scramble music is "ehhhh."
I just bought all three Land games for the Game Boy. I probably won't make it through all of them by the time Backlaugust/DKC Returns happens, but it should hold me over until then, at least
@Mr_Mustache Is that the actual rhythm from one of the songs in DKC2 or did someone just reinterpret "In the air tonight" with DKC2 noises in the background?
I wonder if I can finish this soon. I just played a couple of levels tonight. Some of them are really long! I'd like to finish before starting up Monster World, plus I'll have to play a game for RFN... plus Path of Radiance, plus...
UGH. UGH. You know whats awful? Picking the game up after playing for while, and restarting with such a low stock of extra lives. We advanced to a new area tonight, only to see our totals go down down down before finding a Save Point. UGH.
SO, now we get to redo everything tomorrow that we did tonight. Terrible.
@Mr_Mustache You can stock up on lives by revisiting the first level of the game, and immediately start/selecting after getting the 1up balloon at the beginning.
I forgot to post back here that I beat the game, or the regular stages at least. My file shows only 50% complete, which makes me wonder if there's more than just junk to collect. Are there any hidden stages in the game? I haven't found a place to use the bonus coins or the DK medals, what am I missing? Would it be worth it to continue?
