(I decided to leave out the arcade games for this poll, sorry).

As a result of leaving out the Mario Kart series from the 'What's your favorite Mario sports game' poll (as well as people clamoring for the option to vote for it), I decided to have a separate poll to determine: What is your favorite Mario Kart game? We've all had the chance to sink some time into Mario Kart 7, so let the battle commence! Thanks sirmastersephiroth for the suggestion!

As an added treat, if you click on the box art for one of the games below, you will be directed to the game's Negative World database entry to see what the average rating is by Negative World users (you can rate the game too if you haven't done so already)!

I'm a big fan of MK7. Wii is my runner-up.

MK 7>MK:DS> MK:Wii>MK:DD>MK64>SMK>MKSS

Mario Kart 64 has the best Battle Mode, and Mario Kart Double dash has the best Racing Mode (with the most interesting weapon set). And a bunch of them have excellent Time Trial modes. I don't dislike any of them, really.

Except for Mario Kart Wii, of course.

I never really liked Mario Kart, so I was surprised when I enjoyed Mario Kart Wii as much as I did. It's way better than any other game in the series, although I haven't tried the 3DS game yet. Since it removed most of the things I like about the Wii game and I can't do local multiplayer, it doesn't appeal to me.

Mario Kart 64 gets my vote, left right and sideways. Everything from the battle mode to the "L's" from powersliding made this game the one to beat. Well, the fact that it contains my all time favorite Mario Kart track and track music, Koopa Troopa Beach, certainly doesn't hurt. Mario Kart 7 is a surprisingly close second, I must say. Because it also features Koopa Troopa Beach? Maybe!

Since others are ranking, here's mine:

Mario Kart 64 > Mario Kart 7 > Mario Kart Wii > Mario Kart: Super Circuit > Mario Kart DS > Super Mario Kart > Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

64 just BLEW my mind when I first played it at Blockbuster, and its a contributing reason to why I bought a 64. I was upset about the lack of Koopa Troopa though...whatsupwiththat?!

@Mop it up
I think MKWii and Double Dash are polar opposites, kind of. People who like one usually hate the other. [/anecdotal conclusion]

@Anand Although I think that observation is generally true, Double Dash!! is actually the game I'd put in (a distant) second place. I actually like the double kart concept and wouldn't mind it appearing in a new game as an option.

No offense, but I'm going to ignore your data, since it doesn't fit my hypothesis.

Just my thought, @Mop it up. In fact, I'll be the outcast here and Pick Double Dash!!. I felt the courses where all very good, and varied. No more jumping and a coop mode that is very good to add variety in the mix with a friend. I played with my cousin doing the weapon stuff in the back & loved every single second of it.

Super Mario Kart is my favourite. I typically ignore all previous Mario Kart's when the newest games is released, and yet I always return to the original on Super Nintendo. Its battle mode is awesome (maybe my favourite in the entire series), and when it comes to racing I like how few items there are.

My second favourite, funny enough, might be Mario Kart Wii, for all the opposite reasons! Battle mode sucks, but the racing is so damn crazy with tons of items everywhere! It was also the first Mario Kart to do online right.

Finally, I'll just add that I'll never understand the love that Mario Kart 64 receives. Sure, in 1997 it was fun doing 4 player splitscreen, but looking back the actual racing is garbage. Boring, tedious tracks. Awful AI. Choppy framerate. No music with 4 players. Like a lot of N64 games, it hasn't aged well.

I haven't played MK7 yet, so I can't really rank it. But MK64 is my winner by a large margin. It has some big flaws, and is pretty short. But the content that's there is stellar from start to finish. It was simply the most fun, had one awesome battle stage, and didn't overcomplicate itself. Fantastic experience, though a bit lacking in content. And why did they take a huge nose-dive with the soundtracks after that game?

I have not played enough of MK7 to make an informed decision on it. So far, these is my order MK DS, MK Wii, MK 64, MK DD, MK SS, SMK. From what I've played of MK7, I think it will either be my favorite or second favorite.

By the way, thanks for the shout out @roykoopa64!

Wii is my favourite. Excellent online mode, tournaments, friend ghosts and leaderboards, bikes, tricks, a great powerslide system, 12 players, wheel controls, it has it all. It only lacked a good battle mode, though I did enjoy playing it online despite being locked to team battles. It made sense, with 12 players.

DS is a pretty close second. Great memories for being the first online Mario Kart.

Super Mario Kart still holds a fond place in my heart. I played the hell out of that game.

Mario Kart 7 is excellent, but it took steps back from Wii in my opinion. It does have the best gameplay though, and the graphics are great.

Double Dash was a good Mario Kart but it didn't hook me like games in the series usually do. I liked the cup with all 16 tracks.

Mario Kart 64 is a good game, and I loved it because it was my first n64 game. However it was bested in multiple departments by Diddy Kong Racing, and the racing doesn't hold up very well today. Battle mode was great but in retrospect a bit limited.

Super Circuit is a good game, but I never really liked the controls much. Props for having all the Super Mario Kart courses included.

Definitely 7 right now. Although "for it's time" DS was the one that made me love the series again. And Super Mario Kart (SNES) was one of the best games EVAR at the time.

Mario Kart Wii is my fav. Karts, bikes and the best track designs. Kooper Cape and Maple Treeway are outstanding.
05/25/12, 13:19
Double Dash for me.
05/25/12, 13:22
Mario Kart 7 is the clear winner for me.

Though I do agree with @Zero, the DS game was amazing at the time of its release. It's still really good, but Mario Kart 7 has trumped it. (and all others)
05/25/12, 15:05
It kind of amazes me that MK 64 is doing so well. It has to be because of the battle mode, right? Because the racing in that game... ug. Actually I should say the course design. Too wide open and not much going on.

But we have talked about this many times before here.
