This Mario Tennis game focuses on solid gameplay, minigames, and local/online multiplayer. Let's get the party started!
I know I'm not the only one who will be eager to get in some online friend matches, so let's use this thread to organize them. I'll be pickign up the game today, but only able to play tonight after 10pm. See you online!
Although the online's definitely barebones, I'm having a surprisingly good time with it.
My one complaint is that the "Monthly Leaderboard" just shouldn't even exist. It's not a measure of any actual talent, just who's played the longest (no matter whether you win or lose you're awarded points for that leaderboard).
Luckily the matchmaking is based on the Rating Leaderboard (which is a proper ranking system that either adds or subtracts points based on whether you win or not), and now that I've reached 29th place in those rankings I've had some pretty intense matches tonight
So what is the verdict on this? I LOVED mario tennis for n64 and i love competitive online, but not in mario kart because it was too random for me and i always lost. I may go get this game right now if its fun online, does it track stats etc?
Things or shaky at subbin this week. I was almost losing three days but another school came to my rescue. Ima pick this game up after work today! If anyone wants to play online tonight, let me know.
Chance shots are pretty cool, now that 've played some more. You only get the opportunity to do one if you opponent hits a less than stellar return, and it incorporates a layer of mind-games into the tennis match because you don't need to use the chance shot - for example, you can hit a topspin volley or a lob while the opponent may be expect a drop shot based on the chance shot that's highlighted. I'm digging this element of the game. It's a good balance between nothing (MT 64) and overpowered shots (MPT).
If you press d-pad up & start on the file select screen you access the QR code reader. There's a code up for the Yoshi outfit on club nintendo right now, and here's a code to unlock a Blue Yoshi
Playing online with a star character is so much fun. Really tense matches! Feels like real tennis, since serve is so powerful and drop shots/lobs actually work. Great gameplay. The only problem is I've encountered a bit of lag now and then.
@Scrawnton Nice, I think I have you added to my friend list.
@nate38 Wait for a sale, I guess. Or tell a friend to get it so you can profit from the nice 4 player single cart multi.
I didn't want this game, based on the somewhat lukewarm critical reception, but when stopping in Target yesterday for something, I decided to get it. That's how much of a sucker I am for Mario + Camelot! However, they were sold out.
I'm getting the feeling that Miis with good equipment are overpowered compared to star Mario characters, I'm struggling online when using a star Blue Yoshi or star Luigi but with my Mii it's much more balanced. Hmm.
@Scrawnton Tonight I should be able to squeeze in a few matches.
