Oh yeah that one is tough... I got lucky on many of them really. What I find helps with Dark Pit to land hits on him easier is to use the Play Dead power up. He won't dodge your attacks as he can't even see you anyway

I got the Dark Pit one from fighting him normally the first time. It was tense!

But yeah, the Crisis Mode challenges are pretty annoying.

The more I play this game, the more I like it. It's really well done and addictive as heck. The Fiend's Cauldron is brilliant! I've got over 50 hours in it and still have the final chapter to run through (as well as all the Treasure Hunt challenges).
04/24/12, 07:39
50 hours and you still haven't beaten it? How many treasure hunts have you done!?
04/24/12, 15:17
I'm at 84.1% and the treasure hunts are becoming harder and harder, for sure. (And I still can't beat a 9.0, I'm awwwful) I'm still far away from getting close to your completion rate, @VofEscaflowne, but, wow, I'm getting so much fun out of this game it's insane.

I didn't realize how much good stuff I could get from fusing gems. I was glad I could afford it.

I tried out a Pudgy Palm I fused, with a value of 304. I like its stats, but unfortunately its Ranged is only 1.5 star.

I'm contemplating fusing my Pudgy Palm and Burning Palm (V317) to get a Taurus Arm, value 303, with Ranged 4 star and Melee 6 star. The only drawback is less than stellar stat bonuses. Hm.

Post game content spoiler:

I tried the Boss Battle (essentially a Boss Rush) and it starts out easily enough. On my first attempt I cleared 22 bosses and died at Hades' Heart. What's the deal with this boss? After I get some hits in, the heart chases me at a high speed and I can't avoid getting hit! I know I'm doing something wrong...

@roykoopa64

I really can't figure out a pattern for that boss though I'm thinking someone could always shove themselves in a corner so that you always see what's coming at you and can easily dodge as the hearts can't do a 180. Either that or maybe carry play dead power ups and save them... I wonder if the hearts can still track you if they don't see you?

But yes, I need to get back into it. Still at 91.1% and there's a treasure hunt I've attempted multiple times but just can't do it. Maybe there's a better chapter for it though but it's the one where I have to use the orb ring vehicle (can't remember its name...) and kill 15 enemies with its shield without disembarking at intensity 5.0 or higher.

Some guy on twitter (and hundreds of nerds everywhere, I'm sure) is all offended at this story, saying "Kid Icarus: Uprising designer says we're playing it wrong. I'm pretty sure he actually built it wrong" and "If the natural way of playing and handling the console does not work, something is wrong with the game".

I really don't understand people's unwillingness to adapt to certain control schemes, especially since I took to it so quickly. Are the controls for KI:U really THAT much more uncomfortable or "wrong" than, say, the controls for a 6 button fighting game on a regular controller? People adapted to playing Street Fighter 2 on the SNES back in the day, why can't they adapt to KI:U controls now?

It does hurt my hand if I'm not paying attention to holding the 3DS correctly or propping it up somehow. But I don't care, pain never felt so good.
05/04/12, 18:26
I completely agree with Sakurai, except I wouldn't say it's "impossible" to develop the game with dual analogue. But it sure would be bass-ackwards, considering the speed necessary to actually compete in the game. I've put in 90 hours into Uprising so far, and the controls actually feel very good now. True, that's a steep learning curve, but there's no way I can see an analogue stick replacing the precision of the stylus flicking and moving for the amount of view shifting and reticle adjusting required for the game. And I'm a lefty playing with his right hand!

Yes, I agree that the controls take some serious getting used to, but dual analogue would not be an improvement at all. After a few hours, moving the stylus to aim felt very natural for me, and I can't imagine it working any other way, save for Wii pointing and/or mouse aiming. I almost wish the stick option WAS included just so that people could get decimated by stylus users online.

This game is still addicting. I've got something like 98% complete on the file and roughly 75% of all the treasure hunt panels filled. I've 9.0'd the following chapters (chapter number spoilers): 1 through 9, 15, 16, 20. Yet the search for the perfect weapon continues (love my Eyetrack Orbitars though!).

@TriforceBun
90 hours and we still haven't played online?? We gotta organize something.

How about Saturday, tomorrow? Gui? Fabien? Roy? Scrawnton? Let's get a true 3v3 LvD match going!
05/04/12, 20:12
I guess I could be up for it, but it depends at what time, and whether I've finished editing the podcast or not.

That would be awesome. Right now though, my conflict with Saturday is that May and I will be celebrating her birthday with friends and family, starting in the afternoon or so.
05/04/12, 20:22
Ah ok! Well, our gaming session would be late at night around 9 or 10 pm I'm guessing... maybe you can sneak away for a few rounds?

Also, how coincidental that May's birthday is in May

Actually, my problem with that article isn't what Sakurai says, it's how The Escapist - august publication that it is - chose to run the story with a memetic "You're Doing It Wrong" headline. That's provocative horsecrap designed to infuriate people who've probably never even played the game. Or, possibly, read the article.

I've said before that I think hand cramping is an issue in Uprising, but I won't accept that the game is broken or unplayable. That's total garbage, as many of us who've actually played the game for extended periods can tell you. Gameplay is speedy, original and fun. I've clocked around 40 hours on it, which is something I almost never do with a game nowadays - and I already had wrist issues before it came out.

So... this is just nonsense. I'd tell that guy on Twitter to go whine to someone else.

@anon_mastermind

I could tomorrow if it's around 10pm Eastern. Anything earlier, unless early in the afternoon, I won't be able to play.

As for people getting offended at that article... it's pretty stupid. I think the time a lot of us here have put into the game prove that the game works just fine as is.
05/04/12, 23:14
The controls are efficient, but also demanding and ergonomically unnatural. I've put about 45 hours into the game (94.5%, progress is getting slow) and I still haven't found a position that I would call comfortable, usually ending any extended play session with slight discomfort in my neck. It doesn't cramp my hand like it did at first, but I still kind of dread getting out the stand and clearing off my teeny tiny cluttered desk. I definitely don't begrudge anyone who can't or doesn't want to get used to the controls, and although dual analog would obviously be inferior, I still wish it were an option if I ever wanted to play the game in a relaxed manner. The fact that it requires a stand really sticks out to me that it shouldn't have been a handheld game (and also kinda rules it out as a "portable" game, doesn't it?). Would have been much better suited to Wii.

@Guillaume People got used to SF2 controls on SNES back in the day because there was no alternative. (And people rightfully bitch about playing fighting games with four-button controllers and the awful D-pads we have nowadays) KIU could have easily included dual analog with the circle pad pro, or at least patched it in by now, but it was left out. I suppose it was thoughtful of Sakurai to include the D-Pad move and circle-pad aim option for people with two thumbs on their left hand, though.

But I imagine that a lot of the people bitching about the controls have never actually played the game and never planned to. The internet just really likes to get mad about stupid things.

@roykoopa64 Yeah, that boss is the one that gives me the most trouble. I dodge through it when it charges, but eventually I get trapped by the decoy/bomb version somehow. Barely scraped by it on my first trip through the boss rush.

10 PM Eastern Eh? That's what...just over 3 hours from now? I'll be there.
05/05/12, 01:44
Actually it's in 27 hours from now cause I meant tomorrow But I could play some tonight if you want to!

EDIT: Has anyone done the treasure hunt where you have to defeat 2 of Hewdraw's heads at once? I cannot do it! I tried a bunch of weapons but the only one I've found that would have a charged attack big enough to do it is still so slow that even if you defeat two heads in one shot, it's apparently not in quick enough succession for it to count.

@VofEscaflowne

Rihgt. Day behind. Goddamn you America.

Yeah I should be free tomorrow too. And now! (Or a few hours from now whatever is good). I'll grab my charger and hop on. Anyone else want in this bloodbath?

(My bloodbath- I'm a dead man)

Sure I could play some now. I'm still on this chapter (trying to beat chapter 3 on 9.0) but I'll hop on after if you want to play some.
