@Shadowlink

No. Best way I've found to deal with them is get face to face with them on the floor ASAP. I don't think they turn you into an Eggplant by just touching you. Which stage are you on?

Yeah I know but sometimes I'm slow.

The ones right before the boss in 1-4 got me. Bastards.

That guy has a weird duckbill and a huge adam's apple on his fat head.

@Mr_Mustache

I thought that was Pac Man.
03/20/12, 00:53
Boo yah!

Take that egg man.

2-2, and Pit is feeling beastly.
03/20/12, 04:21
Ok how do you haggle in this game? I tried it like the manual said (I was strength 3 on stage 2), and nothing happened.
03/20/12, 09:17
Haggle...?
03/20/12, 23:26
Well, being awesome at the Kid Icarus Retro Game Club sure is easier than being awesome at Kid Icarus.

I'm stuck on level 1-2, as usual. And I reset the old save state in which I had gotten past the first fortress, wanting to start fresh. Now I'm wondering: Whyyyyyyyyyy!?

03/21/12, 05:40
@Shadowlink

I think you do something with the second controller.. Really. I'm playing on NES though.
03/21/12, 05:51
@nate38

You can haggle with shopkeepers to get lower prices. But it only works if your strength is higher than the stage number. (If it isn't prices go UP)

@Mr_Mustache

Yeah that's how you do it on the NES. According to the E-Manual with KI 3D you just had to hit A+Start whilst on the shop screen. But it wasn't working for me. Either:

- It doesn't work for certain shops (the black market ones?)
- Or I wasn't waiting until the shopkeeper had finished talking (although I'm pretty sure I must have done).

Anyway I did get it working, it's GREAT in the fortress stages if you're strong enough. You can go back again and again for low low prices.

Also another great tip I found at Kid Icarus Code Shrine for the Treasure Rooms (the ones with all the pots):

For stages 1 & 3 break pots 1, 2 & 8. For stage 2 break pots 2, 6, and 7.

Then check the number of mallets revealed. The number will tell you exactly which pot the God of Poverty is hiding in! Avoid!

Stages 1/3: Three mallets= pot 5. Two mallets= pot 7, One mallet = pot 6. No mallets= pot 4

Stage 2: Three mallets= pot 1. Two mallets= pot 5, One mallet = pot 3. No mallets= pot 8
03/21/12, 09:29
Stupid God of Poverty! What a horrible God to have. Where is the God of Garbage? and Vomit?
03/21/12, 09:36
@Mr_Mustache

How about Nurgle, Chaos god of disease and decay?

03/21/12, 09:47
Whoop! Finished!

Total time (According to the activity log): 7 hours 17 mins scattered across 22 sessions. I'm sure much of that is resets.

Total score: 428,400

Now to play Kid Icarus II: Of Myths and Monsters!

@Shadowlink

Gross!

@Shadowlink

Gross! I still gotta dump 3-4. That board is confusing and full of eggplants.
03/21/12, 11:22
@Mr_Mustache

Yeah it is. Are you getting the map items? They help. A little bit anyway.

The boss room is in the top right

@Shadowlink

Top right? UGH . I can't figure that board out. Is it like a big swirly? A lot of those rooms have such high ladders that the only way around them is to, well, go around.

Map items; you mean like the pencil and torch (and the map)? In that one, I think I had the map, but neither of the other two. Or I had the other two, and no map. I know that I was looking for the stuff in 2-4 when I stumbled into the boss room. Good thing he was totally the hardest boss I've ever fought in any videogame ever.....

The map is the only one you have to find.

The other two are in the shop and they just fill in the squares where you've been and show your position. The map itself is not helpful in terms of features like room entrances, connecting passages, USEFUL things. Bah.

And yeah it's kinda swirly. There's this bit towards the upper left where you have to jump down and hold left to get to a side door and then it kind of goes up and around. Once you get to that top row though do NOT go down any ladders. They're one way. Just keep going along the top.
03/21/12, 14:47
@Shadowlink

Bah. I must've been so close to that. I'll get it next time, and probably without a map. How many Centurions do you think I'll need? I got 'em all on the 1st Dungeony deal, but I only had like 8 or 10 on the 2nd one. You don't need to tell me boss specifics.
03/21/12, 22:04
@Mr_Mustache

Haha, yeah I stumbled on the second boss without getting all the centurions too. (I think I had about 18-20). I think I had about that same amount against the third boss. Maybe a little less. Thing is I'm pretty sure I'd been everywhere on the map, so maybe there's not that many in the third fortress? Can anyone confirm the total?

What strength are you? That helps a lot. I managed to do it fairly easilly at strength 4. If you're at 5, you should be laughing.

End boss was SOOOO satisfying. Got my butt kicked a couple of times before I settled down to work out a proper strategy. Forget dodging, it's all in the timing. I just plonked myself in front of the eye and got a good shoot-shield-shoot-shield rhythm going, timed to match Medusa's attacks. She was gone in about 30 seconds.
