This morning I picke ethe last copy of this game up at GameStop. I knew I was gonna start playing it the moment I beat xenoblade, and that time is now!

I'm hoping more people are playing this game. I didn't bother to read any reviews of this game because there has yet to be a tales game I did not love, that I played of course!!

I will update this thread with impressions shortly.

If you have the game, please, let us discuss it here!

I forgot how much I loved the cliched style of tales games. The music, graphics, and dialogue. The combat is as good as any other tales game so far. Playing this definitely brings back memories of playing tales of symphonia nearly 7 years ago!

Abyss is by far my favorite Tales game, so I happily picked up the 3DS version on Tuesday.

I've already managed to sink 10 hours into the game, and it's just as awesome as I remember

Although the 3D doesn't really add much, the load times are sooooo much better than the PS2 version.

@kgtennispro how does this game compare to symphonia length wise? What about symphonia two? Those are the only tales games I beat and I looooooved them. I'm just trying to get an idea of the scope of this game.

Yup. We picked 2 copies on tuesday & played about an hour of it. You can already tell it's a great game. Just like @Scrawnton said, everthing about this franchise is just adorable. Can't wait to actually have the time to play it more. Probably this summer.

ABLYSS? Intentional or did you mean ABYSS?

In terms of comparing it to Tales of Symphonia...if you've only ever played the GC version, then you will be very happy to know that TotA isn't gimped like that one. Oh don't get me wrong, I loved ToS, but it sucked knowing that only Lloyd, Collette, and Genus were the only ones with high-oghis (probably spelled that wrong) unlike the PS2 Japanese version that had EVERYONE equipped with specials. Abyss gives every character a special Mystic Arte and play through the game a second time and everyone gets a second, even more powerful Mystic Arte along with the originals.

In terms of length...I'd say Abyss is a bit longer than Symphonia over all, though all of the sidequests will make it even longer than Symphonia, especially if it's your first time through and you want to do absolutely everything...well, as much as possible the first playthrough.

@CB200 intentional. Supposed to be like tales of the abyss but adding the work Bliss to it! I understand not a lot of people will get that from the title.

And thanks for the information comparing the two titles. I remember being blown away by the story in symphonia, you know minus the always having to cure collete parts.... Erghhh.

I only played a tiny bit tonight. I did a 10 hour xenoblade marathon with a break today to finally beat it so I guess I was burnt out on gaming today. Tomorrow I have two hockey games in a row so I bet I'll be sore and lying around all day playing this tomorrow. Right now I'm in the village of engeve trying to stay at the inn.

I apologize, the "hamlet" of engeve

On a more mechanical note, I like how the main characters, lukes, being sheltered gives a narrative reason for explaining simple things to the player lol. I laughed when he didn't know how to pay for an apple.

@Scrawnton

Oh yes, I liked how they did that in the beginning of the game. And wait until you fully meet Jade Curtis - The Necromancer and said character joins your party. Most badass, hilarious character in the game...you'll have plenty of amusing times with what the character says, and the character's past (if you delve into it a bit in the game) is actually quite interesting, too.

I put about 5 hours into it on the PS2 version I bought last year. I really want to get more into it.

Its nice to see the trusty sorcerers ring make a return in this game. Definitely playing a Tales game!

I played it for a bit before going to the gym and I'm still just amazed for being able to play a game like this on 3ds. I love ps2 era RPGs as much as I love snes and psx a RPGs. I hope some day they port symphonia to the 3ds because I'd love a portable version of that as well.

I just got done with the forest and I'm about 2.5 hours in to the game. The combat is still great, as is the visuals, music, and dialogue. I really appreciate how this game does not assume I'm an idiot. It doesn't spend a lot of time explaining things to me at all and I appreciate how quick the game is moving so far. This game is single handedly making the 3ds my most favorite hand held of all time so far!!

I'm only an hour in but hearing the score done by Motoi Sakuraba melted me like butter. I'm familiar of him through the Eternal Sonata score which ended up being one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.

Well poop.

As I said to Scrawnton in Chat the other day, I completely missed this one coming out. So I went hunting for a copy today- Nada.

As it turns out, like S&P:Star Successor before it, this was a limited release exclusive to one paticular retailer. In a mere 3 months it's already sold out. Woe is I.
02/20/12, 04:48
@Shadowlink I got my gamestops last copy. I have a feeling this will be a rare game in the U.S. very shortly. I'm glad I was able to get a copy near launch.

I'm waiting till it releases at Toys R Us... in Canada..but I think that's a waste of time.. I'm not sure why our stores here don't have it. We carried other Tales games in the past. Either I wait for that..or a price drop at the other stores like Walmart etc.f I'll be playing Xenoblade first though so I guess when I'm finished with that, then I will search for this game.

I love the Tales series. Glad to see that people are enjoying it.

@Smerd

Wal-Mart here didn't even receive the game, Canada too. I just picked it up at EB instead.

@Smerd I feel bad that you can't find it; however, on the flip side, choosing to play xenoblade is an amazing choice. That game is just brilliant. I'm only 4 hours in to Abkyss right now and I don't like it as much as Symphonia, but it is still a strong jrpg in its own right. I feel like this game lacks the polish that symphonia had, though.
