Why not sign up for a (free) account?

@kgtennispro But that's one of the best courses ever!!!

Why doesn't this game show the player's names above their heads when playing online? I have no idea who's who!
12/05/11, 05:48
I have a feeling I'm the only one that dropped after that one ploot, heh.

Hopefully the others see the community post after this one ;p

EDIT: Oh god my Mii looks chubby for some reason. Need...to fix that...

Doing the community thing is really no easier than setting up a match in MKWii. BLAH! Ah well, we have a couple different canned sentences.
12/05/11, 05:51
@ploot

I'LL BE USING GYRO CONTROLS!

(not) ;p
12/05/11, 05:52
Bah.....Fabien said he was going to be coming....
12/05/11, 05:53
I got disconnected before the first race even started. I'm calling it a night...my thumb is sore anyway!
12/05/11, 05:58
@canonj

Yeah, I have a bad feeling my thumb's not going to be functioning at all tomorrow, lol

Sorry Ploot, I was going jumping in but I got a communication error and then the 3DS froze up.

I might do a run of all the courses before getting back online since I feel kinda weird doing the last level on a random online match. A few more things I noticed:

I love how the music gets drums when you're in first!

I started the game holding B to go and to my dismay it slammed on the brakes. I played the whole first race muttering bitterly about Nintendo being moronic since A was accelerate with no way to change (hand cramps ahoy!). Then in the next race, I realized that Y is also accelerate, and that made me extremely relieved. Whew!

Online is fun! I got first place on my first race--in a stage I was going through for the first time, no less (Maka Wuhu)! Then I proceeded to kick some more butt for awhile until a Special Cup stage deflated my ego a bit.

Weird how it doesn't show how many points each racer gained or lost on the results screen. I have to, like, do math now.

As enjoyable as the online is so far, I'm still not entirely convinced it's much of a step ahead MKW. There're less players, the results screen is more muddled, the VR is shared between Battle/Race, you can't view rival's names/Miis in-race, and the equations for gaining/losing VR seems a little off so far. I haven't really followed the online talk too much, but what are the main additions here? I clicked on Community and saw a rather cool feature--custom-made rooms with their own rulesets (apparently). How does this work, exactly?

@TriforceBun
Check out the Negative World rooms. The codes are in the OP.

@kgtennispro
Haha, I clicked the GYRO CONTROLS thing by accident. There's no option to say, "Sorry! I made a mistake!"

Sorry, guys, I need to go for a bit. I WILL be back on in an hour or so if anyone else is around.
12/05/11, 06:07
Oh yay! The coins you get online DO count for your total. For some reason I assumed they wouldn't

I'll be on and off for quite a while tonight ploot. Just have to take care of my thumb every few races, heh

I know some was wanting more tracks, but seriously, what is there, 16 new and then 16 retro. Come on thats 32 tracks. Thing is, if Nintendo ever gave more than 32 then they would have to keep it at whatever amount they choose. There has always been 4 cups with 4 courses. I think that is plenty.

As for the different amount of characters, again, I really don't care. There could only be 8 like in Mario 64. I only ever play as Mario, so it doesn't matter to me if there is 8 or 80 characters. Im just glad they got rid of all the baby characters and I think I read where Waluigi was axed. Thank god, Ive always hated that character.

I noticed there is only 2 codes for NW community and people have been having a hard time joining. Is there really that many people with the game here, or is it an online problem. If its the first, then there needs to be more, or people just need to PM or email one another and start their own races. When I am ready to race, I want to race. Im not sitting around for more than a mintute waiting for a room to open up

Overall, when I go online, I hope there is not alot of cheaters or snakers. If so, I get rid of this game like I did Mario Kart DS. Not sure why so many aholes find it fun to cheat. Big deal if you are winning like 99% of the races, its not like cheating is really earning you the win. Most of the fun and excitement comes from not knowing what the outcome will be.

@TriforceBun

Yeah, I've got to say that in my brief time playing online it actually seems like a downgrade compared to Mario Kart Wii. The actual racing itself is fine, but all those little things you mentioned kind of bother me...especially not being able to see player names while racing. You might as well be racing against random people. What was Nintendo thinking?!?

Even the Community feature, while a good idea, seems flawed. Once a group of people start a race, you can't join them and you'll be in your own second group all alone.
12/05/11, 06:11
Okay, I'm gonna jump into the NW community to see if I can get a better grasp of this concept. Hope to see you guys on the tarmac!

@Zero

Agreed!
12/05/11, 06:16
@TriforceBun

I'm waiting for Fabien and rebonack to finish their little group so we can hopefully all join up......hopefully

EDIT: Oh god, you started us in 1 v 1! ;p

And was I teleporting everywhere on your screen? I kept thinking I was ahead of you, then you'd teleport in front, lol

Oh weird! Nice races, but...how does this work exactly? Should I wait for everyone to come in?

I was under the assumption that I was joining the Community, not hosting in it. What should I do to get more NWers here? Can they join us now?

Edited: 12/05/11, 06:26
Yes, lol.

Once you start you're locked in with just that group.

Not a fan of 1 vs. 1 with items....especially blue shells dammit ;p

EDIT: Oh, and it's always a set of 4 races with these groups.

Whew, got clobbered on Daisy Hills. Okay, I'm going to try to...do something else. How do I drop out or whatever?

EDIT: It won't let me leave! I'm stuck in an endless loop of Mario Kart!

EDIT 2: Oh. Should've just finished then, sorry.

EDIT 3: Dang it, I don't get this at all. I choose NW-1, it says there're 5 players, yet when I want to join in, I'm stuck in my own group. Is "players" supposed to be the total number of people who've joined "NW-1," or the ones currently online? If it's the former, we need more people in this group!

Edited: 12/05/11, 06:32
No problem, not like it matters or anything.

You could've been 2nd in the community placings though! Wooooo ;p

EDIT: It's number of people that have finished a set of 4 races in at least one group within the community. So more people have probably added the community to their favorites, but won't count as "players" until they play one set of races.

Is there any way at all to make it so we only play for fun and not grand prix mode? And is it just me or does 150cc feel really slow?
