Really? Because if it's over a chasm...that actually benefits you. Lakitu should spit you out at the end of the gliding portion, and if you get the boost start, you've actually got an advantage.
@ludist210 I do sometimes get set up after the chasm... but sometimes not. In this case I did actually get set after, but the problem with this portion of track is that you fall a long way down through "normal" air BEFORE hitting the pit, and then you get set after in a place with no boost potential whereas everyone who did the jump normally is basically boosting right to the finish line. And it was a tight pack, and everyone behind me ended up in front of me... AGAIN.
@anon_mastermind Um... you mean on that track? I forget? I played a bunch last night. I think I had worked my way up to 1st and held it for most of the third portion of the track.
Overall last night's matches went ok and I'm slowwwwwwwly working my win/loss ratio back up to 50/50 (it started off really low because I played online with YOU GUYS a bunch before even playing the main game), but there were definitely like 4 or 5 times I got royally fucked by blue shells and lightning bolts when I was generally dominating the race otherwise. I'm really starting to prefer just sitting in 2nd place when possible, and that is kind of silly. Besides, you can get equally screwed in 2nd place with lightning bolts, so I guess you might as well shoot for 1st.
Gotcha. Are you talking where you can glide over to either some coins or items boxes, then glide down again? I do like Maka Wuhu, but man it's hard to gain ground on that track.
@Zero 2nd is a pretty safe bet. Even if hit with lightning, you won't be shrunk as long as the first place guy. Just watch out as he might brake to avoid the blue shell, and then you're the target all of a sudden!
I went from 8th to first last night with a well timed lightning over a chasm. Yep, I was that guy
You know I never used to get the complaints about the lightning bolt, but with 7s introduction of flying I'm more and more getting totally boned by it. It's to the point where I think... why even bother with the flying shortcuts? In theory this could be interesting risk/reward but since the lightning bolts are unavoidable the only thing you can actually do is check quick to see if anyone has one and then go for it, hoping to god no one gets one and uses one while you're in the air.
Flying is such a cool mechanic too, I just wish I could take to the air over a gap without being in constant fear of being knocked out of the sky to my death. Kind of reminds me about how I feel about real flying...
GameDadGrant was the other guy in there. I had no idea he was that good at Mario Kart, but I was basing that off of my experience of racing against him in MKWii.
I enjoyed it! I really just hopped in (via the Friends List and joining Grant) to see if my internet was fixed, and I didn't get dropped in five races, so I think I'm set!
I only started playing yesterday but i have played every track already.Game is good so far even if it does cause insanely bad hand cramps after a few minutes of playing. Game still feels very unfair at times, but not losing weapons when you get hit is great. I was actually pleasantly surprised by how good a lot of the tracks look.
@Zero I find that people are easy to beat when playing Worldwide races -- at least, compared to our community races. If you continue to race random people your win-loss ratio will go up dramatically!
I have to admit it is a bit of a relief racing against people who aren't all great at the game. I actually got hit with two blue shells in one race and still never fell out of 1st place. Ok so that one was a bit too easy, but I was up against some people who were ok and was winning some really close races (and finishing a few in 2nd, 3rd, etc.) It's nice racing in a pack that is spread out more too, such that when you get hit maybe you lose a place or two... instead of automatically shooting back to last.
You guys were racing me and my sister (Mariah)! She was one of the many koopas (dang he's popular). Weird laggy issues tho, I finished 5th on one of those races and it said I got 6th...and in the race of three, I was in 2nd the whole time but got 3rd? Even though it showed the dude behind me for the entire race?
Yeah it was lagging in weird ways and I was seeing karts jumping all over the track. I also noticed on the Wuhu course that two people seemed to jump very, very far ahead, so I think they did the exploit. Of course, I got booted from that race over connection issues so ultimately it didn't matter, but I really hope this Wuhu exploit isn't going to be a common thing. This is the first time I have run into it in my many, many races, but it will possibly gain more traction in time.
Hmm, maybe Nintendo can fix it with a forced update or something.
