Best 3D console Zelda game before Skyward Sword? [poll]

Ocarina of Time  (19/48 votes)
 40%
Majora's Mask  (11/48 votes)
 23%
The Wind Waker  (10/48 votes)
 21%
Twilight Princess  (8/48 votes)
 17%

Ok, I learned my lesson this time, Skyward Sword will not be part of this poll. I'm just curious to see how we feel about the games leading up to it. Of course Ocarina of Time will win this poll, probably by a landslide, but I'm still curious.

Ocarina by a small margin, then Wind Waker, then Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess (tied).

I chose OoT, although aLttP is still my all-time fave, even while I am playing SS. No Zelda game has ever been able to capture me in quite the same way.

Sorry, gotta give it to The Wind Waker. It's a great experience. Followed by Ocarina, then Majora's tied with Twilight Princess.
You should definitely be sorry. Apology accepted.

Majora's Mask > Twilight Princess = OoT > Wind Waker

The overworld, obviously nerfed content, tedious navigation and Triforce quest have made Wind Waker the only console Zelda game I've only finished once. I've tried a few times but that game is poorly designed and obviously unfinished. I cannot bring myself to finish what Nintendo didn't bother finish either. And it's a shame, because that is one damned beautiful game to look at and listen to.

Twilight Princess > Majora's Mask > Ocarina of Time > The Wind Waker for me.

I understand why most people don't think as highly about TP as I tend to, and for a while I was of that same mindset because it didn't feel particularly special compared to the other Zelda games. It felt like a Zelda expansion pack in many ways. But it did just that: expanded on the past elements that the other Zeldas had already done well and did them better still. That doesn't mean that TP is without its faults. I'm of the opinion that almost every single Zelda game takes several steps forward and a few steps back from its predecessor. However, the fact that TP did such a number of things better than past Zelda games, I was able to overlook the fact that it didn't feel like a special Zelda experience to me in order to decide that I ultimately did like the pieces that made it up more so than the other games.

Sort of like Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, I suppose. 2 didn't feel as special as 1, but it took many of the things that 1 did and improved upon them, and it may very well be the better game because of all of that.

TP in last place. For shame, NW.

FOR SHAME.

Hey I voted for TP. It was between that and MM for me, and I know I rated MM higher on the site but ultimately I think TP was probably the better game. My memory of MM is a bit hazy and I think I disliked a lot of stuff that I conveniently forget about.

Like, for instance, the entire overworld design (or lack of.)

Wind Waker. The art, the story, the music... everything about it clicked. Surprisingly Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess are a smidgen behind that for me. It's very hard for me to pick a favorite because I love them all for different reasons. Plus I'll love Ocarina forever, especially with the memories I have attached to it. But a while ago I realized you have to take the nostalgia factor out of some equations. The other games were and are better games, IMO. The series just keeps getting better with every new addition.

See, for OoT it's not really about nostalgia so much as what the game introduced that I feel is easy to take for granted. If all the 3-D Zelda games released at the same time, OoT probably wouldn't look so hot since the series had time to adjust and refine certain aspects (combat, dungeons) and experiment in other ways (Clock Town people, sailing). But weighing in that "innovation factor" reflects nicely on OoT laying the groundwork for a ton of ideas and concepts that have been used since. Because they work.

Majora's Mask, followed by Twilight Princess, then Ocarina of Time, with Wind Waker lagging faaaaaaaar behind

22/35 people are wrong.

WTF?

@-JKR- DO IT NOW!

MM had barf graphics, mostly forgettable music, bad designs, and a ridiculously repetitive gameplay mechanic.

MM should be dead last. It's the only one of these I haven't finished. That's saying one whole fuck of a lot. I was too hard on it the first time (I quit at the impossible water temple, at least I remember it being impossible/annoying as shit) I can admit, but even my second try through on the VC it couldn't hold my attention. And I didn't even get near the water temple I got to the first time.

WW was great but had huuuuuuuuuge flaws. I could fathom it being people's fave, but not MM.

TP and OOT are easily the best. Easily the least flawed games.

@Shadowlink
What are you adding up?

@carlosrox

Those who didn't vote for OoT.
11/29/11, 05:16
To be honest I expected OOT to be far and beyond the winner, with over 50%. Seems like we have a pretty diverse crowd of Zelda fans here, and I'd imagine things would get even more complicated if we added in 2D games and handheld games and (after a bit of time) Skyward Sword.

@Zero
We'll have to redo the poll sooner or later and perhaps include every game. But it'd be really hard to get objectively best, best for the time, and current best. We could have endless polls with endless variables haha.

I think my answer would always be TP though. Wait, no, not for the time. For the time it'd easily be OOT or LTTP.

And can someone please help get TP out of last place? And MM off fuckin' second? PLEASE?

It is hard for me to vote. I did vote for TP, cause I actually think it is the best Zelda game, though Ive said before that OoT is my favorite cause it was my very first Zelda game and nothing has been able to beat the feeling that I got from playing and experiencing it as my very first Zelda game. Still, I think TP is the better game.

I also agree that MM should be in dead last. No way that game deserves to be 2nd.

They are all excellent games. But I'm going with Ocarina of Time. My order is exactly the order given on the poll: OOT, MM, WW, TP.
11/29/11, 05:34
Tough tough decisions. But my vote has to go to Twilight Princess, even as much as I love Majora's Mask. Majora's Mask and Wind Waker would probably tie for my 2nd choice.

@sirmastersephiroth

Swirch Wind Waker and Twilight Princess around and I can agree with you completely .

Wind Waker has serious flaws that severly outclass any minor gripes with Twilight Princess.

The game was rushed and it suffered for it.

@carlosrox

What Big G said . Although it's 23/37 now.
