Alrighty everyone, the game is finally out in all primary regions.... IDreamofHime was the first to receive their copy here on the boards. This is the place to discuss it!!!

Welcome to the thread on Negative World where all wondrous Zelda talk can occur. I would recommend that if you wanna talk about deeper-game stuff as we get going, perhaps spoiler-tag it and then describe outside of spoilers where in the game it is. The recent Super Mario 3D Land Discussion Thread is a good example. That'll allow people who aren't too far to read the thread without actually spoiling stuff for them. Just try to be courteous but definitely have fun with the game and discussions!!

Have ye what it takes?

Be sure to hit up the Skyward Sword Game Page and add the game to your collection once you've received yours. Be sure to mark it as "Playing" while you work on it and after you're played it sufficiently, give it a score you deem fitting!

If you've beaten the game, click on over to roykoopa64's Skyward Sword story/ ending discussion (SPOILERS), and general thoughts thread! It's like this thread part deux!!

Turned whats-his-face human. It was kind of anti-climatic. I thought maybe since there was so much involved to get there something bigger would happen. Ah well. Time to go face the end I suppose.

Walk around town during the night to see a slight difference....

Neat.

Well... I'm done. Ultimately, I really liked the game. There are a few things I wish they would have done differently, but it's pretty darn awesome nonetheless. The ending sequence was pretty badass.

I noticed Monolith Software in the credits. What did they do in this game?!
02/17/12, 06:23
Not sure exactly. I thought the whole ending sequence was really well-done and among the better endings in the series (and the final fights are definitely up there as well). I found the game's story as a whole a bit more genuinely emotional than I'm used to in Zelda, and while it may not have worked for everyone, it managed to pluck a few heartstrings for me from time to time, so kudos to SS for keeping the heart beating. One of the twists at the end--Impa being the old woman--was something I was hoping would happen, so it was nice to see that they went that direction with it. And they did it in a charming way with the blue bracelet.

Some of the time trial stuff just plain don't make much sense though, hah. Oh well, such is time travel in general.
02/17/12, 06:27
Wait, it just dawned on me that Impa was in the same time as both her younger self and her older self simultaneously.

OH GOD NO. I CAN'T TAKE THESE KIND OF TIME PARADOXES.

But... why did she disintegrate at the end? I'm a bit confused on that.

@Zero

She became one with the Force.
02/17/12, 07:16
I guess so. She must have been pretty old at that point and only kept alive through the power of the goddess or whatever. Once her task was done, there was no point to keep on going, eh?

@Zero

I kind of took it that Demise/Ganon/Vaati/whatever rose to power and Impa was not able to hold him off. Peace never lasts forever

@Zero

Yeah, it's pretty clear that Impa's sole duty was to guide Link and Zelda like this. Since she must've been super old by the end, that was the end of her task and it was time to boogie on.

As a longtime Zelda fan, I definitely liked how they explored the mythos of Impa a little more. She started off as a wise old woman who cared for Zelda in Zelda 1 (and helped out Link, at least in the manual), then became a younger, tough woman who was Zelda's nanny in OoT. It's cool seeing a game pay tribute to and address those, and I found Zelda and Impa's relationship to be rather endearing (what little of it we see, anyway).

Fixed.

Seriously how did you let that slip past?
02/17/12, 10:16
Not that I personally care, but are we just sayin fuck it to spoiler tags in this thread now? Shadow, Brick, and Zero just let massive spoilers slip... At least, those are ridiculously unsubtle hints.

@carlosrox

Zero's was spoliered, mine and Brick's were jokes.

Unless someone has A) read's Zero's spoilers, or B) finished the game, those posts aren't hints at all.

EDIT Actually, Zero's second post gives it a bit more context. It probably wouldn't hurt for that to be spoilered.

Mine and Brick's taken in isolation should be fine though.

I tried to keep mine intentionally vague but I see your point.

@TriforceBun
Impa to be a character in the next SSB? Her, Zelda and Link should adopt their Skyward Sword art styles. Oh an why not have Ghirahim as a character too. Can't get enough Zelda representation. Groose?

Just finished the Fire Sanctuary and opening the time gate.

The sanctuary was a great dungeon (some genuine head scratching moments), and the spirit realm challenge before was tricky too. While the fight with Girahim was technically awesome, it wasn't hard enough. I had more problems beating him the first time. Beating back the demon lord with Groose's help was great too. The cutscene with Zelda was very nicely done, the expressions were perfect.

Still on course to be my favorite Zelda since OOT. Skyward sword deserves a Majora's Mask style sequel. All the new additions using Motion+ deserve a second game where the structure and formula of the quest are fundamentally changed MM style. Would only have been possible if SS had been come out earlier though, but it's still fun to dream

I honestly think that if SSB gets a second Zelda villain, it should be Vaati before Ghirahim. Vaati's got three games and an out-of-game back story from which to pull. Ghirahim just has the one game. Vaati is more deserving. And though I think Vaati deserves it most, even Skull Kid deserves the spot more than Ghirahim, having also appeared in three games (though only as a major enemy in one of them).

But if Nintendo wants to throw in Vaati, Skull Kid/Majora, Zant, Veran, Onox, Twinrova, Bellum, Cole, Byrne, Malladus, and Ghirahim, I'm not going to complain.

I'd wanna see Agahnim for nostalgia's sake. We could have an epic Hyrule Castle level where maybe the guards come in now and then to cause trouble. Maybe his energy balls could be reeaaaally powerful, but if you time it right you can deflect them back towards him. And he could shoot lightning!

If they brought back Final Smashes, his could either be lightning, or Ganon could emerge from him and turn into a bit fucking bat.

Which reminds me, if there's another Zelda villain, I really think it just needs to be retro Pig Ganon. With that huge ass trident.

Ghirahim is my favortie Zelda character ever. He was awesome. I hope he is in SSB before any others mentioned.

Pssh. Pig Ganon. And he should have his voice from the cartoon. That awful, annoying voice.

THE TRIIIIFORCE OF WISDOM IS MIIIINE. ALLLLL MIIIIIIINE

Well, I'm making my way through this game, little by little. Just beat the 4th dungeon the other night. That boss battle was EPIC! The dungeon was pretty sweet, too - my favorite of them all so far. This game started off a little slow and clunky, but it's getting better the deeper in I get.
