Alrighty everyone, the game is finally out in all primary regions.... IDreamofHime was the first to receive their copy here on the boards. This is the place to discuss it!!!
Welcome to the thread on Negative World where all wondrous Zelda talk can occur. I would recommend that if you wanna talk about deeper-game stuff as we get going, perhaps spoiler-tag it and then describe outside of spoilers where in the game it is. The recent Super Mario 3D Land Discussion Thread is a good example. That'll allow people who aren't too far to read the thread without actually spoiling stuff for them. Just try to be courteous but definitely have fun with the game and discussions!!
Have ye what it takes?
Be sure to hit up the Skyward Sword Game Page and add the game to your collection once you've received yours. Be sure to mark it as "Playing" while you work on it and after you're played it sufficiently, give it a score you deem fitting!
So I started playing at about 1 AM last night and stopped at 5-5:30ish AM. I really need to stop doing this. I always tell myself "I'll just play for an hour and stop" and it is impossible!
The game is growing on me again. It certainly has its flaws, but then, it does so many things right as well.
Me too, until the last week or so. I'm trying to get back into the game. Also trying not to rush. Like my mind says "you don't have enough time to screw around with all the side quests" and then my other mind says "this is mother fing Zelda, I'll take all the damn time I please!"
BTW how many dungeons are in this game? I was kind of just assuming "9" for some reason since that is often the standard, but I'm getting the sense that there are less? Not that I'm complaining, half the areas basically are dungeons before the dungeons.
Hmm. About what I thought, I mean, based on the storyline talk.
I think I'll spoiler tag that, some people may not want to know.
Anyway, so... yeah. Makes sense. Although a part of me was getting all excited, like OMG THEY PACKED THIS MUCH JUST INTO THE "EARLY" GAME?! But I guess I'm actually probably well into the middle game by this point.
@anon_mastermind I suppose so, I've done a ton since the 3rd dungeon and still not quite at the 4th. But I do kind of wonder what my game till will be next to my 50+ hour Twilight Princess game time.
@Stephen Really?! I'm just talking about the areas immediately preceding dungeons, like the volcano and such. They have been long and packed and full of great gameplay so far.
@Stephen I'ad argue that all areas directly preceding dungeons are very well done, through out the game. There are some ups and downs when you're sent here or there for a quest that doesn't directly precede a dungeon.
On the whole, I felt that the preceding areas were always weaker. Especially once you start having to (dungeons 4-6) do goddess gifts and parts of the hero song. In the majority of cases it's just shit added to waste your time and pad out the game.
That's really just semantics at that point. If you divide the game in to dungeon and non dungeon parts the non dungeon stuff is far weaker because of sections like what I mentioned. There are standouts though like what you mentioned and the various sidequests to do.
It's not sematics, it has everything to do with the location and the premise. The pre-dungeon stuff is just natural "on my way to the dungeon" obstacles and gameplay, in the same area as the dungeon itself. This is one of the highlights of the game, the way it leads up to dungeons and even blends the overworld with the dungeon at times.
The stuff you take issue with is literally "go here and do this specific quest that has nothing to do with dungeons, and then come back".
It is semantics because there are parts of the game outside dungeons that are shitty. Fine, they aren't pre-dungeon but they exist and occur before, and after dungeons.
