Alrighty everyone, the game is finally out in all primary regions.... IDreamofHime was the first to receive their copy here on the boards. This is the place to discuss it!!!

Welcome to the thread on Negative World where all wondrous Zelda talk can occur. I would recommend that if you wanna talk about deeper-game stuff as we get going, perhaps spoiler-tag it and then describe outside of spoilers where in the game it is. The recent Super Mario 3D Land Discussion Thread is a good example. That'll allow people who aren't too far to read the thread without actually spoiling stuff for them. Just try to be courteous but definitely have fun with the game and discussions!!

Have ye what it takes?

Be sure to hit up the Skyward Sword Game Page and add the game to your collection once you've received yours. Be sure to mark it as "Playing" while you work on it and after you're played it sufficiently, give it a score you deem fitting!

If you've beaten the game, click on over to roykoopa64's Skyward Sword story/ ending discussion (SPOILERS), and general thoughts thread! It's like this thread part deux!!

@Shadowlink

Potion-suit up! And do you have the best possible shield you can get? That'll help immensely.

I need to pick this one up more. Still in the desert trying to enter the Temple of Time...
12/08/11, 16:51
@DrFinkelstein It really will! Besides, you're not really Link without it.

I've gotten too sucked into AC Revelations the past few days... I really need to get back into SS!

@DrFinkelstein

That's the plan. It was just late and I couldn't be assed heading back to Skyloft for potions.

And yeah I already got that other thing. I 'potion suited up' (lol) for the Boss rush. Totally invincible against The second Imprisoned battle, both Ghirahim fights and half of the Tentalus fight I think the effects of the potion medal linger even after that bastard dragon takes your pouch

BTW I had the fucking Triforce. Why am I getting my ass kicked by this jerk? I should just go back and wish him dead like I did his boss.

@Kal-El814

I totally read that as Animal Crossing Revelations... which would be hilarious. Man I want my Animal Crossing 3DS... but back to Zelda...

@Shadowlink

It might be tough but are you having fun with it? I found it quite enjoyable for an end-sequence of battles and stuff leading up to the finale. Which battle are you specifically on right now? The Ghirahim battle where you're kinda standing on the platforms in mid-air or is it something afterwards?
12/08/11, 21:21
@Shadowlink That's a good point. At the end of the game Link makes his wish to destroy Demise (why he makes this wish in the present is beyond me. The Triforce doesn't really go anywhere, right? It doesn't separate. Does he have to wait before he can use it again, like the Dragonballs or something? The ultimate power in the universe seems a little underwhelming in that regard haha.

@DrFinkelstein

Beat the platform bit. Up to the bit where I have to wail on his sword hand.

Got beaten twice at that point and rage quit. Or sleepy quit. I dunno.

I'm going to have to go through that preliminary bit again (with the hordes of monsters.) But I have to admit that was freaking epic. Like something out of Lord of the Rings.

@Shadowlink

Yeah I loved how the whole thing was done. It was actually comical at parts too with that monster horn thing. I wish you the best of luck sir!

I just finished the 3rd dungeon and Zelda went through the portal thingy. Looks like Impa's starting to unbunch her panties and give Link a little credit.

@Shadowlink When he gets the big ass sword, attack him so he blocks you, then slash the shit out of it until its destroyed. Then stab his chest. Stab, don't slash. It does much more damage. He's not that hard.

So I just did the (much-maligned, post-dungeon 6 section) Tadtones stuff. Maybe it was because I kept hearing from everyone that it was the worst part of the game, but I didn't mind it. I did think Faron's reasoning behind flooding the area was pretty dumb ("Um, okay, so the Bokoblins are gone, but now we've got sharks! Yay?" It's practically comic strip parody material). But as someone who didn't really like the swimming controls, I thought this section was kind of fun. It didn't require too much precision (which is what my main problem with swimming was) since you could spin to get them, and the act of getting one tadpole per note was pretty clever. The atmosphere and music were pretty pleasant too, and a nice break from all the boss-crushing beforehand.

On that note, my goodness was The Imprisoned 3 annoying! For the first match, his fat feet moved to fast and kept knocking me down, then off the cliffs, then I couldn't catch up to him in time, repeat for five minutes, he reaches the top and I lose. Fi tells me to launch myself at him after dying, so I do so, but he ends up reaching the top again later. Two more deaths and I finally get him on try five.

It wasn't so bad after I did the aiming, but going for the feet is an awful idea, and the game doesn't let you know you shouldn't (even though that's how you got him the last two times). Maybe he's be more tolerable if I had arrows, but I used them all on Bilocyte.

Also, I kept trying to get on Groose's machine and he kept running me over and knocking me into the pit with the Imprisoned. Still a little bitter about the bird race, eh Groose?

@TriforceBun

In regards to the post-dungeon 6 section... I didn't mind the tadpole part, either. In fact, out of the three, it was my favorite and made for some nice imagery. And I found it the most fun even if, like you said, the reasoning was lame. But this is coming from someone who loved the swimming controls to begin with. Eldin was my least favorite and I felt it was way longer than it should have been.
For the imprisoned... you go after his feet? It's way easier if you use the bursts of air to travel just high enough so you can jump on his head. This applies to all three forms, too. I think you were making it harder on yourself than it actually is (unless i'm reading what you wrote incorrectly?)

@MikeD487

Jamie accidentally discovered that and then told me about it but I never tried that method. Maybe on the next play through. Should make ALL of those moments way easier.

Are you serious? I NEVER thought of that. Would've made the third fight much easier.

@MikeD487

Shit, really? Definetly have to try that next time!

And actually I found the third imprisoned fight to be easier than the second Not sure why. Maybe it's to do with the fact that you only have to knock him down twice, the third time you launch right for his head.

I actually lost that battle the first time because I first tried to clear the way to Groose's bomb stash, and when that failed tried to load Groose's launcher with bombs of my own.

Well now I feel like an idiot. I was going for the feet too.
12/09/11, 02:00
^ Me too! What the hell.
12/09/11, 02:07
Imprisoned fight three was rage inducing.Definitely the hardest fight in the game for me.Jumping onto his head doesn't work in that fight,he simply throws you off,I tried it after hitting his feet didn't seem to be working.Arrows don't work on his feet either.still beat it on my first attempt.
Considering how hard people said it was,I only died once and that was against the last boss,I didn't know there was a trick to beating him,so I simply parried every single one of his strikes till I could hit him once or twice and repeated till he died.I felt like such an ass after seeing the easy way on youtube...
